Free website hosting with a twist - 110mb.com
2008-05-15 20:38:00 Well, I usually don't review each and every free hosting company that I see or use on the Internet. Some of you might ask me why not? The answer is simple: there are too many companies that are offering free hosting and it would be way too much time invested in researching, testing or rating such services. And to be honest with you, I don't have the time to do it, no matter how much I'd try it. Plus, this blog isn't about reviewing and rating webhosting companies. So, you can say that this is not my niche.Yeah, it's true that I wrote a review about a cheap hosting company and about GoDaddy.com few months ago and that I currently promoting one free service like those mentioned above ( see the second 125x125 banner located in the "Sponsors" section of this blog, on the sidebar ), but this doesn't mean I'm trying to do a "Top 10 best free hosting companies" top or something like that..I've reviewed/I'm promoting this services because I found/find them to be useful for my reade...
Number 1in Google in 120 days - Oh, really?!
2008-03-13 16:53:00 I know, it's everyone's dream to be number 1 in Google's SERPs ( Search Engine Results Pages ). But the fight for this position is very fierce. You're not the only one hoping to get there and you'll have to fight your way to the top. Your competitors want the same thing and they will try to be one step ahead of you, so you must be prepared to outrun them at anytime. This means you'll have to spend some time understanding how a search engine works, do some SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) for your site/blog, spend some money on advertising ( and especially on pay per click advertising ), write keyword rich articles and quality content. If you're going to do all this properly, then you may have the chance of being the "king of the hill" on Google and other search engines, for the business/niche you're involved in to.As you can see from above, it's no easy task to be the best..and to maintain this status all the time. Usually, when a webmaster or blogger wants to rank high o...
AffiliateJunktion - A way of making money online or just another scam?
2008-03-05 00:44:00 The reason why I've written this post is because I would like to hear your opinion about AffiliateJunktion.com. I want to know how many of you are actually involved in this program and if you earn any good money out of it. As you may have guessed, I'm not using this money making opportunity, this is why I can't tell you my own opinions and experiences. But it's always nice to read, see or hear what other people have to say:)So ok, you're already looking strange at me, because you may not know what I'm talking about. Not a problem, I will clear everything up for you in just a second. Because I'm an active internet surfer ( like most of you, I believe ), I'm always visiting lots of websites. Not all are related to topics such as making money online, search engine optimization or affiliate marketing ( hey, I need to take a break from time to time too :), but it are interesting and informative, nonetheless. And lately, I'm keep seeing AffiliateJunktion.com replica websites popp...

2008-01-06 15:32:00 In the world of personal computing, Microsoft Windows has the lion’s share of the marketplace. Steve Jobs and Apple are certainly starting to make some headway in the market with their highly attractive MacBook, iMac, and Mac Mini, but most people are still sticking the rest of the manufacturers out there — ...

Sony bids goodbye to DRM
2008-01-06 08:12:00 It was inevitable that Sony BMG Music Entertainment turns its back on the shackles of digital music called DRM (Digital Rights Management). Everybody has been predicting that 2008 will the year and after a long wait, it’s finally here. All other major labels - Warner, EMI, Vivendi - have dropped DRM and with Sony now in that list, DRM is officially (finally) dead. DRM is copyright protection method that prevents illegal sharing of songs on P2P networks. But like all other anti-piracy campaigns, it annoyed customers more than it prevented theft. Declaring DRM is officially dead maybe a bit of a stretch since music DRM is still present for several other services but they represent a small minority. You can expect the first few of DRM-free tracks appearing at the during the first quarter 2008. Amazon’s DRM-free store is now at a good vantage point because offers variable pricing, as opposed to the iTunes store. On that line of thought, services tied with Social network ...

What to do when your PC dies
2008-01-02 18:24:00 It started as a glitch while playing a video file during the New Year’s celebration and like any computer junkie, I felt it was simply a codec error or something as minor. Two days later, January 2 to be exact, my computer crashed and never booted again. It’s the worst case scenario especially when you’re rushing to finish work like reports, programs etc. I’ve experienced a lot of PC deaths (some of natural causes and some by me.. don’t ask how) so it’s safe to say that I’m quite competent in the field and I thought of sharing that with everyone. When your computer dies, here’s what you do: First off don’t panic. Panicking is the worst thing you can do. Not only will you fail to see any hint that your computer is giving on what the problem is but you also risk doing more damage to your PC than what made it crash in the first place. Check what’s wrong. If you haven’t learned the basics of PC troubleshooting, I s...

Goodbye to 2007 and my pre-blogger self
2007-12-31 04:25:00 It’s been quite a year for me with tons of new experiences both online and offline. Though I didn’t make it to the roll of graduating (actually graduating, not just the graduate class) students, I was able to get 7.00 on all subjects necessary so unless I find work (one that fits my newly set standards), you can brand me as a NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training). What now? Throughout the few months that this blog existed, I’ve made so many experiments on SEO, that I actually think I screwed everything up. In the same thought that Mcbilly had in making his Top 10 Shameless Blogging Mistakes, I present to you my list of 7 blogging sins and what to do about them. 1. What niche am I? What indeed. I’ve been trying to focus Atma Xplorer on a more general view of technology to encompass both software, hardware AND gadgets all around it but in the end, it’s too broad a spectrum that I’m almost always lost in a decision whether I ...

2007-12-17 14:18:00 The approval of Google?s acquisition of DoubleClick has been rejected. By the European Commission at least. But that?s not quite the end of the road for Google/DoubleClick. A further review of the deal has been ordered, and this could last until March. With an extension having already been granted by the EU, this isn?t looking ...
BSkyB Creating YouTube Rival Using YouTube?s Technology
2007-12-17 14:17:00 Google is partnering with British broadcaster BSkyB, licensing YouTube?s video-sharing tools, as well as other Google technology like email and internet telephony, according to reports. Google-Doubleclick Merger Delayed. Again.
2007-12-17 14:16:00 I?m beginning to wonder of the Google-DoubleClick merger is ever going to happen. As with any merger at that level, it has been riddled with monopoly questions by competitors and anti-trust activists alike, but for an added bonus, Google?s had to contend with corrupt congressmen, misplaced privacy concerns and now procedural problems. The primary decision holding ...

2007-12-17 14:16:00 A month after a court decision by the European Commission upheld the initial court ruling against Microsoft for what had been determined as an overwhelming market dominance, Microsoft has decided not to appeal. After four years of court battle in Europe, Microsoft is essentially bowing down, determining to cooperate with European authorities and work according ...

2007-12-17 14:15:00 European Union regulators have extended the deadline for the inquiry for Google?s DoubleClick acquisition, moving it back from October 26 to November 13, 2007. Jellyfish Launches Radically Different Shopping Site
2007-12-17 14:14:00 Mark McGuire, the President of Jellyfish, just pinged me to say that his radically different shopping site went live a few moments ago. In a call earlier this month, Mark explained that Jellyfish has a whole new ad model that could rival Google?s pay-per-click ads. Understandably, they asked bloggers to keep it under wraps until ...

Can What I Write In An E-mail Be Tracked?
2007-12-17 12:16:00 Absolutely! And you can probably bet that it is. Although there is a law that makes it illegal to read or share the contents of an a-mail, there are a couple of important loopholes. Employers monitoring employees aren’t covered (technically, they own the computer, the network, and the software, so they have a right to access ...

A new host and a new look
2007-12-14 09:40:00 I noticed that Atma Xplorer’s loading time in the past was a bit long (using fasterfox on Firefox Portable on several different PCs and locations). It was mainly due to the PNG images that my theme used as several unnecessary scripts (sql queries mainly) in the background. As you can see, I decided to go minimalist (yes, I know many people hate dark themes) to ease up on bandwidth (which I’m unlikely to go out of anytime soon unless I get digg-raped AGAIN) as well as to provide more focus on the articles rather than the look of the blog. There’s still a few tweaks I need to put up and I can’t do them yet since I’m posting this from the office (uh oh!) but rest assured that the posts will continue to come. ^^ If you’re interested, the theme I’m using is Hemingway Reloaded, the original didn’t support widgets so I chose the next best thing. New Host Thanks to kuya Dexter (kuya naman di ba?) for reminding me that our mutual friend super...

FlatPress; a wordpress alternative?
2007-12-07 04:16:00 To host a blog, you need a domain name, a host and a SQL database. Usually, your host servers and your SQL server are hosted on different machines, accidents do happen and without access to both machines, your blog goes down. A viable solution is to eliminate the need for your database and just stick with your host. Enter FlatPress. FlatPress aims to have the same functionalities as WordPress, along with some of the look and feel and because FlatPress does not require MySQL to work, it’s a feature that benefits people who do not want to spend a lot of money for a hosted site with a MySQL database. FlatPress also adheres to xhtml 1,1, Smarty for graphical template management, and the ability to from SimplePHPBlog. What I need to know? As of the moment, themes are configurable to a point but they come close to WordPress themes because of the Smarty template engine. There are however, few ports of popular themes for FlatPress. There are some plugins from WordPress, if you c...

Protect yourself from malware
2007-12-05 03:47:00 Malware vulnerability is on of the few reasons I stay away from my Windows PC when surfing the net. While some of these can be just common annoyances like tracking cookies or keyloggers, some are very malicious and can wreak havoc on your system and your important files. What is Malware? Malware is a type of software designed to take over and/or damage your OS in one way or another. Once installed, it can be difficult to remove but that depends on the severity of the malware program as well as the degree of damage it brings which can range from being annoying to rendering your PC inoperable. The most common types of malware include: Virus - A program written intentionally to enter a computer without the users permission or knowledge which then attaches to files or boot sectors and replicates and spreads. Other viruses can cause serious damage to your files and system. Worms - they are stand-alone software that modify their host operating system, and are likely to be started as par...

Firefox 3 Beta
2007-11-25 17:15:00 I decided to install Firefox Beta 3 (currently at 3.0b1) to see how much improvement the Mozilla team has packed into Gran Paradiso. Firefox 3 beta is available for download from Mozilla’s servers and from the official statement alone, it’s quite obvious that this release offers some hot new features for users and web developers. Firefox 3 is built on top of Gecko 1.9, the latest version of the Firefox Core HTML engine which features some major overhauls both in handling and under the hood like support for full-page zoom (a feature already embedded in Opera). Cairo now performs much of the underlying rendering, giving the advantage of hardware accelerated rendering. I’ll enumerate some of the interesting changes I found with 3.0b1 Right off the bat is the smaller memory footprint: Note that memory usage is an objective factor since plugins, themes and modifications ultimately contribute to how large actual resource consumption will be. However, it’s still...
