Ventura meets the press, rings in new era of open-ended coach-speak
2012-01-27 14:27:00
With SoxFest coming up this weekend, new manager Robin Ventura is hitting all the press stops to drum up enthusiasm for the new season.  It’s nothing but a heart-pounding thrill-ride of understated professionalism. While Ozzie occasionally inspired the instinct to wince and hope he would work his way through every interview without a risque statement... Read more »
Conservatism And the Press
2012-01-21 21:21:00
OK, John King got his butt handed to him in a basket by Newt Gingrich. David’s got the video up already, so I won’t bother with it. We all know of the exchange. Frankly, it’s no great feat of foresight that Gingrich saw the question coming.  The supposed mainstream media is nothing if not predictably leftist.  Which is not to say Gingrich doesn’t deserve accolades for knocking it out of the park.  Indeed, I would think an ill prepared for the Presidency indeed had he not seen it coming. But, please, let’s not fall into the trap of thinking that the liberal media has learned its lesson by this.  I will guarantee you that John King is being inundated by leftist admirers in his emails and phone calls.  He is being greeted and hailed as a liberal hero.  And of course, his objectivity is never in question in these comments. The same goes for Brian Ross. Essentially what happend there with John King happens all the time. Brian Ross, the guy who went aft...

Newt Gingrich on MEET THE PRESS 01/15/12 VIDEO TEXT
2012-01-16 19:02:00
Newt Gingrich on MEET THE PRESS January 15, 2012 01/15/12 VIDEO TEXTMR. GREGORY: And good morning. All the focus now on South Carolina where GOP voters will go to the polls next Saturday. This weekend, a group of prominent Republican Christian conservatives gathered in Texas and gave a boost to candidate Rick Santorum, throwing their collective support behind him in a last ditch effort to stop Romney's march to the nomination. What will it all mean? Here with us, another Republican trying to stop Romney in South Carolina, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.Speaker Gingrich, welcome back to MEET THE PRESS.FMR. REP. GINGRICH: It's good to be with you. I'm delighted.MR. GREGORY: Let's, let's start there because you laid it out this week. You said there's one way to stop Romney in South Carolina, this is what you said to Fox News.(Videotape, Thursday)FMR. REP. GINGRICH: If we consolidate conservatives, we could beat Romney by a big margin.(End videotape)MR. GREGORY: We've ...
Tim Scott on MEET THE PRESS 01/15/12 VIDEO TEXT
2012-01-16 19:00:00
MR. GREGORY: Well, and you talk about whether it helps the other side. Tim Scott, you were on Fox News this week, and this is what you said about the attacks on Romney and Bain. I'll play it for you.(Videotape, Wednesday)REP. SCOTT: One thing without any question that is true today and that is that the winner of the 28-minute commercial is President Barack Obama. Starting and feeding into the cultural war is absolutely unequivocally wrong for us as a nation and bad for the conservative movement.(End videotape)MR. GREGORY: And yet that film that you heard Speaker Gingrich say had errors in it but should not be taken down, says that the record at Bain was as ruthless as Wall Street. Do you think that's fair?REP. SCOTT: Well, look, I think that's probably inconsistent with reality. But there's no question that the story line that will play out in the fall, if Romney is our nominee, there will be numbers of ads, many ads run by the president talking about what Republicans said about...

The Art of the Press Release: Special RAISING HOPE Edition!
2011-12-02 19:03:00
Continuing his penchant for delivering press releases that cut through the clutter comes the latest from the genius behind RAISING HOPE, Greg Garcia. See for yourself, after the jump. Dear Critics,   Well, Christmas is right around the corner and do we have a wonderful gift for you! A preview screening of the best holiday episode of a comedy that you have ever seen.   We decided to do an episode where Jimmy wishes he never slept with a serial killer and then we explore a reality where our family never had baby Hope enter their wonderful lives. The idea of this episode is 100% original. People tell me that there was a Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie that was similar but I’ve never heard of it.   Anyway, after you watch, when you’re done laughing and calling all your friends to tell them how amazing it was, I want you to take a little time and reflect. What would life be like in a world where there was no RAISING HOPE? Well, let me tell you…   If RAISING HOPE was n...
The Art of the Press Release: Special BONES Edition!
2011-11-18 23:27:00
Continuing our penchant for highlighting press releases that cut through the clutter comes a few choice words from executive producer Stephen Nathan, who is about to give fans even more of a reason to get excited for this Thursday’s episode highly-anticipated episode of BONES. See for yourself, after the jump. Dear Privileged Few,   Even though the episode is still being finished (sound, color timing, VFX, etc), we wanted our friends in the press to see it before it airs. Yes, it contains the usual horrifying remains and bizarre collection of suspects, but this episode includes a bit more – while we are usually reluctant to use the “very special episode” moniker, we feel that David’s performance is truly impressive. With the phenomenal support of our brilliant Emily, as well as Ralph Waite and Tina Majorino, David has brought new life and dimension to Booth and to his relationship with Brennan. We all feel very fortunate this year to be able to take the s...

It was with great humor that I viewed Jane Valez Mitchel and her group of talking heads on Monday as they discussed the news that Misty Croslin had been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for her part in a drug ring. Monday’s sentence was nothing more than deferring to the judge in St Johns ...
V.P.B. Nair Told BBC Sai Baba Bedroom Killings Were ?Coldblooded Murder?
2011-01-06 11:49:00
In mid 2004, former Andhra Pradesh Home Secretary, V.P.B. Nair spoke to the BBC about the official corruption that attended the police killings in Sathya Sai Baba's bedroom in June 1993. He said he intended to take steps to get the case re-opened. But has he done anything of the sort? It is an odd irony that exposure of these killings at Puttaparthi, and the subsequent profound suppression of investigation, have been effectively left up to two individuals gifted with cussed unstoppableness - the late Basava Premanand in India and Robert Priddy in Norway.

Meet The Press Too Painful To Watch
2010-10-10 21:37:00
Meet The Press Too Painful To Watch Watching Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk on NBC's Meet the Press was nothing short of painful and embarrassing. The rest of the country got to see exactly what we Illinoisans have to contend with in the upcoming election. No wonder the latest polls have this race as a toss-up, both candidates for the U.S. Senate once held by President Obama don't exactly exude trust.
Referee Who Booked Rooney Talks To The Press
2010-06-10 02:25:00
Quite a bit has been made about the yellow card, which Wayne Rooney received in a friendly training game against the Platinum Stars. He received the yellow for dissent, after apparently swearing at the referee. Rooney received eight yellow cards during the 2009/10 season, whilst playing for both Manchester United and England. After receiving a yellow in a friendly ahead of the World Cup, his temperament is being questioned again. To be fair, he does have a track record of losing his temper and getting sent off but making such a big deal about it just before the World Cup won?t help. Now everyone will be watching what Rooney does/says and the referee?s will have it in the back of their minds again. Rooney?s obviously worked hard on trying to control his temper but what?s wound me up is the way the referee has handled himself after the game. There is no need for him to come out to the press. You don?t normally see referees come out and say why they showed a player a yellow ca...
Hurray! Obama leaves the press behind.
2010-04-11 00:38:00
It is being reported as a breach of protocol, the president going somewhere without the press pool trailing, Turns out Mr. Obama wanted to watch his daughter play soccer, so he left a couple of hours before the press pool had been told to gather. This is good news. For someone who can't seem to keep his mug off the news every day, maybe he's getting the right idea before the media. A day without Barack, ahhh....

Obama, Progressives and the Press: An Interview with Cindy Sheehan

The ones that upset me the most are the so-called leaders of the “progressive” movement like Tom Hayden, CODEPINK and Michael Moore who very enthusiastically endorsed, worked for, voted for, and raised money for Obama, and NOW are beginning to speak out against his carnage, when in fact, Obama has always been very pro-war. 2008-11-07 22:05:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere.. BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble Friday!!!  TGIF!  Last warm day of the year up here, most likely. We got to 65 or so today… that makes it nearly 5 days in a row. Not really all that odd, but as the number of warm days dwindles, you tend to cherish ever one of them, to the point where you relish pressing the weather envelope a bit. We went camping one year a few Novembers ago. Was in the 70’s all weekend. Was raining the morning we were to go home, as we broke camp. I have pictures of the rig parked at a truckstop in Erie, with snow falling on it at a good clip. Much have made a jarring sight on the open road that day. OK, enough… Lots to talk about today, as always, so let’s get to it. Oh.. before I forget…have some pizza, it’s fresh.    A nod to Rodney, who awarded Uncle Bit yet another honorable mention at OTB’s Caption contest. So it now turns out that the vote t...

Four Years Later: Why Did It Take So Long for the Press to Break Abu Ghraib
2008-05-11 11:37:00
Sudhan @11:35 CET Charles J. Hanley, Pulitzer winner for the Associated Press, uncovered abuses at the infamous prison months before the scandal really exploded. Why were so many others so slow to act? By Greg Mitchell | Editor & Publisher, May 8, 2008 Four years ago this month, as May unfolded, each day brought fresh horrors, images, or details about the Abu Ghraib prison abuses in Iraq. Pictures of shackled and hooded prisoners gave way to detainees on leashes, cowering before snarling dogs, or just plain beaten and bruised. On May 10, 2004, an Iraqi human rights official charged that American overseer Paul Bremer had been repeatedly informed about abuses at Abu Ghraib. The New Yorker revealed that Donald Rumsfeld personally okayed a set of procedures that led to the abuses. Several major newspapers called for Rumsfeld to quit.At that time, in a column, I disclosed how Pulitzer-winning correspondent Charles J. Hanley at The Associated Press had actually “broken” the Abu Gh...

Obama Makes Sense on Meet the Press
2008-05-05 03:14:00
I just saw Barack Obama interviewed by Tim Russert on NBC's Meet the Press, and was especially impressed by the following points:1. Obama said his "DNA" makes him ideally suited to bring Americans together - his black father and his white mother. I like that - the way Obama thinks and talks. When was the last time you heard another Presidential candidate of either party talk about DNA, in any connection to politics?2. Obama again spoke about the superficiality of the American flag pin issue - the degree to which Obama wears and does not wear a pin. I couldn't agree more. Did it ever occur to those who think flag pins are so important that a terrorist could easily wear one? What counts is what candidates say and do - not what they wear in their lapels.3. Obama explained his opposition to the gas tax holiday (McCain) and gas tax holiday plus windfall profits reduction (Clinton) proposals. They're sugar fixes, and, in the case of the windfall profits reductions, not likely to ...
