2008-04-27 15:50:00 Frankly, if you remember one of my previous posts on Jack White, I became a bit pissed off when he received the third alternative Grammy for Icky Thump. I had nothing against him and I think I was a bit jealous as well. I started getting all that was left from The White Stripes, all their stuff from their 1999 debut up to 2007’s Icky Thump. I found most of them pretty much sounding the same while they are never boring, always entertaining and Jack White sounds like an innovative craftsperson who’s always trying to experience different stuff. But for The White Stripes, the sound has signature and has remained unique so far and that alone is of a great value in today’s modern music. My personal favorite among all the White Stripes albums still remains untouched: White Blood Cells. If it was not about experience, the album was about fun and had more hits than any other White Stripes album. They both play blues-flavored rock, one just plays it with slightly more band members.To set the record straight, I do not hate the White Stripes. I feel their vastly over rated, but I can jam to a very select few of their tracks.Besides the same basic ingredients, the Reconteurs seem like a different beast. It's like the Rolling Stones and Led Zepplin; they're both blues-influenced rock bands but only one of them are considered the Godfathers of hard rock.Despite my optimism about the Reconteurs, it doesn't make me a fan. As an experiment, Jack White and Co thought it would be interesting to see what would happen if they threw an album on the store shelves less than a month after the album was finished (With no warning). They just wanted to see how people would react to the album with zero marketing and zero hype. It's too soon to tell how well this worked out for them, but we can still talk about the album itself. It's called "Consolers of the Lonely". It's a couple notches below "Icky Thump" and "Broken Boy Soldiers", but still an enjoyable record that's more interesting than most of what's out there right now. Here's "Attention", which I promise you will grow to love after a few listens.
