Britain's Queen Elizabeth plans to make the royal family greener.
2007-04-03 12:19:00 Following advice from her son Prince Charles, the queen wants to turn the royal palaces into 'models of green efficiency' and hire advisers to reduce her carbon footprint. A Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed: 'We are talking to a number of organisations about our carbon footprint to reduce the royal household's impact on the environment. It is now part and parcel of the management policy here.' Palace consultants will reportedly advise a reduction in the use of helicopters, chartered planes and trains, to decrease carbon emissions. The queen and her husband Prince Philip made 380 trips in Britain and 45 overseas last year, while the royal train covered 9,8000 miles. Environmental campaigners Friends of the Earth have urged the queen to use energy efficient light bulbs in Buckingham Palace - which has 40,000 lights - and change cars.
