2007-10-08 08:06:00 The Shins played at The Greek Theatre on Sunday, October 7 in support of their latest release: "Wincing The Night Away" with singer/guitarist James Mercer (pictured) leading the beat.Entering the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, fans both young and not so young (like me), delved into the rambling and sometimes melancholic great pop music of a band grown-up and confident, they can hold their own in their repertoire, and playful on stage even in between songs. A blonde fan tossed Mercer a single stem red rose which Mercer playfully gave to fun-guy Eric Johnson who meticulously attached the stem rose to his classic white bass guitar. A lot of bands get constantly overhyped by NME and various other music magazines and websites, and although the Shins have been featured in most, they?ve just not made the impact I?d expect for a band of this quality. It?s really frustrating seeing the Mika?s of this world take the charts by storm with complete rubbish, when we have an absolutely brilliant band hovering around getting basically no airplay and no attention.

At The Disco, the reformed Crowded House and Lupe Fiasco lead the initial lineup for the 2007 installment of Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music Arts Festival. The event will be held Sept. 1-3 throughout the Seattle Center. Steve Earle, Devotchka, Devendra Banhart, Roky Erickson, Allison Moorer and Magnolia Electric Company are also on the bill. Rounding out the lineup are Gogol Bordello, Kill Hannah, Norma Jean, Plain White T's, the Gourds, Lyrics Born and the Holmes Brothers, with scores of acts to be announced.
