Life Is Returning To The Wildlife Area At The Signal box
2008-03-16 17:02:00 How To Join Green Thumb SundayGreen Thumb Sunday BlogrollOr checkout Green Thumb Sunday on TechnoratiThings are beginning to stir at the wildlife area at my Signal box . I have put in a lot of hard work this winter getting it ready . The picture below is a new area that has been created. Previously it was piled high with all of the trees and branches that I had cut back over the last 6 years. Unfortunately it was also providing an ideal habitat for rats, so it had to be cleared up.Luckily enough we had engineering work on the line for the past few weekends and no trains were running , so I was able to have a big fire to get rid of the pile. With the area now cleared, I have planted two pear trees and a couple of hedging trees. I will also be adding some wildflowers and wild strawberries in the next few days. This is the view from the signal box over looking the wildlife area. At the moment it is dotted with daffodils and cowslips. The rosemary and lavender are getting quite big now ...
'The Signal': Lost In Transmission, By Kurt Loder
2008-02-22 18:04:00 Kurt Loder reviews "The Signal," a low-budget, hyperbolically bloody zombie movie.
?The Signal? Sports Plenty of Style, Little Substance in Sci-Fi Twist on To
2008-02-22 08:53:00 CHICAGO ? In the last several years, the horror genre has become hot because of its return on investment. The strategy is to market the hell out of the scare factor, get a good opening weekend (which usually takes care of the filming costs several times over) and make sure the blood spatters well. There is no need for pricey star power because the ?star? is always the quality kills. While ?The Signal? has an abundance of them, it?s not for the usual reasons. The film opens with a woman named Mya (Anessa Ramsey) having an extramarital tryst with Ben (Justin Welborn). She?s late getting back to her husband and doesn?t notice the strange, random noise and light blobs coming from Ben?s bedroom TV screen. "The Signal" Review
2008-02-16 07:05:00 ?The Signal?2007**** out of ****Directors: David Bruckner, Dan Bush, Jacob GentryCast: Anessa Ramsey, A.J. Bowan, Justin Welborn? The Signal? is full proof of why I?ve been mad at cinema for the entire year so far. With the exception of ?Cloverfield? and that little comedy that every one hated but they all know they truly loved (and when I say ?every one,? I mean twelve people), I never really got much out of 2008 so far. Granted, I still haven?t seen everything that?s came out since the first weekend, but if they weren?t anything like ?The Signal,? I don?t give the shits coming from Jesse Jackson?s mouth. If more movies were like ?The Signal,? I would have turned in my critic badge a looong time ago.I?m pretty sure that all of you guys know where I?m going when I say how good ?The Signal? really is, and it?s not because it?s so different in tone, but it is the way that it describes itself to the viewer. ?Why are these people killing themselves?? we?re left asking throughout the movi...

2008-02-12 19:27:00 ...w/ awesome written all over it.I was recently contacted by Mr. McGraime of Magnolia Pictures about this film. I've heard about it before, but only briefly. Needless to say I am actually looking forward to this film and hopefully these trailers and the like will get you interested too. You can check out the webpage for The Signal here. There is also a photogallery here. It’s New Year’s Eve in the city of Terminus and chaos is this year’s resolution. Told in three parts from three unique perspectives by three visionary directors, The Signal is a horrific journey towards discovering that the most brutal monster might actually be within all of us. First is the regular trailer.Next is the exclusive violent trailer (warning, has some language)And lastly is an actual sneak peak preview into the movie (i.e. a scene from the flick itself): That being ...
Philly Muni Please — Hold the Signal!
2008-02-06 18:50:00 It appears that Philadelpha may be without a Muni Wifi deployment if the rumours hold true. We noted previously that Earthlink failed to show up for a municipal meeting several months ago. The situation seems to be devolving from there – Philadelphia’s CIO said today that he believes there is a 75% chance that EarthLink Inc. will sell or abandon its ambitious citywide Wi-Fi network operation in a year. As a result, the city is already making contingency plans in case that happens. Terry Phillis, who has held the CIO post for the past year, said the city expects to know more within 60 days about what Atlanta-based EarthLink will do regarding its Philadelphia operation. Although a sale of the Wi-Fi network to another private network builder and operator would be preferable to having the city take control of the project, Philadelphia officials want to be prepared for either possibility, Phillis said in an interview today. “We consider [the Wi-Fi network] an asset for...

GPS: Pentagon Says It Won’t Block The Signal
2007-09-21 14:29:00 The Pentagon says it no longer needs to hamper signals from the Global Positioning System network in times of crisis, due to advancements in those systems. The next generation of GPS satellites won’t carry the capability to degrade the commercial GPS signal in favor of military uses, Pentagon spokesman Major Patrick Ryan told Reuters. Current satellites allow the US government to reduce the accuracy of civilian signals — by as much as 10 percent — if the military deems it necessary to focus resources on a specific area, or to prevent enemies from intercepting the signal. The Signal Trailer
2007-09-04 12:39:00 Do you have the crazy?! This indie horror / thriller elicits feelings like 28 Days Later but with an entirely different premise. The Signal first premiered at Sundance last January and didn't get that much buzz, only a bit of praise from online critics. It's about a mysterious transmission which invades every cell phone, radio and TV, turning people into killers, as told through three different perspectives and by three different directors. This trailer is one they pulled from distribution, most likely because it is way too violent. The one released on Apple recently isn't even worth watching, but this one on the other hand most certainly is!

"Losing The Signal" On Net Neutrality
2007-07-05 17:31:00 This describes a highly discouraging development about which we were notified last night (h/t Thers at Eschaton). There are still 10 days left to tell the FCC to support Net Neutrality, but with Deborah Platt Majoras and the FTC bailing out, it does not bode well (and when you read her position on Net Neutrality here, it sounds like she never really was ?on board? with it anyway, and smooth move by the Bushies to leak this ?oh, by the way? news release when we were all celebrating yesterday).Another monument to failure from Bushco?
Make Your Blog More Powerful by Optimizing the Signal-to-Noise Ratio
2007-07-05 02:22:00 “Simplify, simplify, simplify.” - Henry David Thoreau (who would have made an excellent blog writer) How much of your blog is actually useful content, compared to stuff about your blog, about your cat, about what you did today, or about why you’re not posting as frequently as you should? People come for the useful stuff, but they’ll leave if your Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is too low. SNR is a term borrowed from electrical engineering by Usenet, used to describe the amount of real information in a post (or in a forum) compared to spam or irrelevant or false information. You come for the signal, but you leave if the noise level is too high. You don’t want to sort through a bunch of stuff to get that one little nugget of information. The useful stuff should be jumping out at you, from every corner, and the non-useful stuff should be kept to a minimum. Otherwise, you’ll quickly lose those visitors who you do happen to attract. How can you keep your ...

Get blinky with the Signal Cellphone Adviser
2007-04-10 00:00:00 The Signal Cellphone Adviser adds a splash of polite ring notification to your desktop by way of a radio wave-detecting cup. Turn your ringer off (not a must, but it sort of defeats the purpose otherwise), drop your handset in the small opaque-sided cup, and whenever a call comes in, LED blinking action! We've seen similar devices before, but they were typically hanging on key fobs which are usually in your pocket, making them kinda useless. If this device had a charger built in -- which from all signs it doesn't -- we would seriously have considered giving it a spot of honor on the desk. Still, not a half bad gift for $21.[Via Core77] |
