Change is hard
2012-01-08 13:45:00
Organizational change is hard – like the way a diamond is hard. So, don’t try to change the organization. It’s too big anyway. Instead, focus on changing one person at a time – that’s hard enough. Don’t necessarily take the “one person as a time” too literally, though. You don’t need to completely and utterly have one person won ...

Meet the Team 2011
2011-04-03 02:34:00
The annual "Meet The Team" event is always one of the nicest outings of the year.  The 2011 version was held today at Chitown Futbol in Pilsen.  A large fan turnout gathered to meet and greet players and staff for autographs, play video games, and other soccer themed activities.  The turnout appeared to dwarf the attendance at previous season's Meet the Team events.    Reserve Game The Fire reserves played to  a 0-0 draw against NSC Minnesota in the morning at Toyota Park's practice field.  Both Bratislav Ristic and Marko Maric saw game action.  Victor Pineda also played at right back instead of holding midfield where he is usually slotted. ...
Hawks the team to beat in the West?
2011-03-08 20:31:00
Tim Sassone's latest questions whether the Blackhawks are peaking at just the right time. Maybe even peaking enough to be the team to beat in the Western Confrence? The Versus expert panel was also asking the question Monday night. The Hawks still can't afford another slump or they could be back in danger of being on the playoff bubble, but all signs are pointing to another great playoff run.The Canucks are not a super team, and neither is Detroit or San Jose. The Hawks have the personnel to beat any club in the league. The Hawks still have their issues, of course. They have trouble protecting leads and killing penalties, plus they need to stay healthy on defense. But the Hawks...
Blackhawks Alternate Sweaters: Do They Impact The Team's Play?
2011-01-27 02:03:00
Fans are torn on the aesthetics of the Blackhawks alternate sweaters, and the emotional like/dislike of the uniform often boils over into an assumption that play is improved or hurt when the team wears them. But now that the Blackhawks have played six games in the alternate sweaters this year, is there a noticeable difference?...
Rooney: Barca Are The Team To Beat
2011-01-20 20:08:00
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that Spanish side Barcelona are the team to beat in this years Champions League. Both teams are through to the final 16 of the competition. Man United will play Marseille and Barcelona face Arsenal. Barcelona finished top of their group with four wins and two draws. They scored 14 goals and only conceded three. Man United also finished top of their group with four wins and two draws but only seven and let in one goal. Rooney told the official Champions League magazine: "They [Barcelona] are the team to beat". "They are a fantastic team and people will remember what this Barcelona side have done for a long time to come, like the great Real Madrid and Manchester United teams. "Their football is brilliant to watch and they win games playing that way, which is the main thing. "Barcelona stand out for me. You can safely say if you beat Barcelona you have a good chance of winning the competition." The last time Man United played Barcel...

2010-08-20 17:18:00
After two disappointing losses to the Seattle Mariners in their three-game series this week, the Baltimore Orioles got a huge shot in the arm as Brian Matusz threw eight shutout innings as they beat the Texas Rangers, 4-0.They snapped a two-game losing streak, and used a four-run seventh inning to emerge victorious.Matusz – who had a season full of ups and downs – perhaps had his best showing in the majors so far on Thursday. On the night, he just allowed five hits and one walk against the Rangers – a team more than likely playoff-bound.We all know he’s got the stuff – the question is can he pitch with some consistency?>>> Read More
It's All About the Team
2010-07-14 05:16:00
This is topic has been beckoning me since I started this blog.  It's been many years since I started working as a Designer and the longer I work, the more I believe this:  it's all about the TEAMWORK to get the project "right". Usually, a Client hires the Architect or the Builder/Contractor -- occasionally the Designer -- and that person helps to find the others.  If the Architect comes first, much of the work gets started and then a Designer is suggested to help complete decision-making;  then it goes out for bid (my favorite way) and the project progresses,  Other times, the Contractor heads a team and recommends the Architect and/or Designer.  From time to time, a whole team...

I am not sure what this Happy Town is on ABC.  I just have it on in the background while I'm working on my Idol recap.  But I just noticed that Bunny Colvin from The Wire is in it, so I kind of feel obligated to watch it.  I always feel obligated to watch shows featuring former cast members of The Wire.Do you feel the same way about any other former shows?  Like, will you watch anything Matt LeBlanc does because he was on Friends?  Was that a horrible example, or what?...

On Design for Testability
2010-04-18 17:43:00
Almost at every conference, event, training, or consulting engagement someone asks for my opinion on the whole design for testability thing. I’m not quite sure why I haven’t blogged on this topic, especially at the time that a lot of the other bloggers were weighing in, but better late than never. Before getting into that, I ...
On Small Applications
2010-03-07 12:32:00
I hear this too often: “X sounds like a great pattern, but it’s overkill for small applications”. Many patterns have been subjected to this including (but not limited to): SOA, DDD, CQRS, ORM, etc. Often the statement is made by a person without experience in the given pattern (though possibly experienced in other patterns). Let’s ...
Saints the team to beat; Jets could surprise
2010-01-22 01:04:00
The Saints and Vikings rank 1-2 in my KEY STATS, which makes the home field a big factor in projecting the outcome. The Colts-Jets matchup is tougher to get a handle on. It's like the tortoise against the hare.We know who won that fabled race, but if there were a rematch, the smart money would still be on the hare, or Peyton Manning in this case. He's the best, in my opinion, when it comes to reading and dissecting a defense. He had the Colts leading the Jets 15-10 late in the third quarter when coach Jim Caldwell pulled the plug on the regular season. By so doing, he saved the Jets season. And now the Jets have a chance...

Chris Richard's chances of making the team
2009-10-15 07:45:00
Had today been yesterday, this post would have been easy to write. Before the game against the Timberwolves, Chris Richard's chances of making the Bulls roster this year were about as remote as the chances of stopping a train with a fishing rod. Through the first four preseason games, he couldn't have been much worse. But last night, he couldn't have been much better....

I awoke today to read some of the most bizarre quotes uttered by an Arsenal player I have ever heard. Kolo Toure, speaking after the loss on Saturday, has admitted that he was ’scared’ to play against Hull. In his own words: “I was scared to play the game. Sometimes people, not the players, play the ...
And The Team Name Is... Leaking!
2008-08-30 03:40:00
The Oklahoma City NBA franchise, formerly known as the Sonics are set to unveil the name, logo and colors next Wednesday. Well, the name Oklahoma City Thunder has been tossed around a lot. I don't love it, don't hate it (hey, it'll still be a bad team).I would now like to see the management team surprise everyone (like a Republican did today). How about the Oklahoma City Dogs of the Western Conference? I know that the people came to see the Hornets play, but they were a great squad. Will the support be there for a young, developing team? Not to drift away from basketball, but will people have enough money to come out? If so, will they lose volume in extras (drinks, etc.).This is a chance for me to put on the hat of a basketball economist. I think the buzz will be good, but not great. When you saw the crowd for the Hornets, you could feel the energy they gave to them. I don't think there will be a lot of buzz for a guy in Kevin Durant that only scores because he gets a lot of sho...
Coach Zorn introduces the team to dodgeball
2008-06-05 02:47:00
Per Redskins Insider: Zorn, who has a reputation for "thinking outside the box" (hate that term but I'm kinda rushing here so I'm taking a lazy cop-out), brought out some huge silver exercise balls and started up a game of dodgeball. For real. One quarterback held the ball in the pocket and the other quarterbacks chucked the balls at him from various directions. The QB holding the football - not the dodgeball - would have to slither and slide away from the big silver balls, simulating having to elude an oncoming defensive player ... without the obvious risk of injury. "It 's (a drill) I've been doing to get the quarterbacks to be able to move without a real live guy (chasing them)," Zorn said. "It's been an effective drill to help improve the quarterback's feet and his lateral movement, and what's great with those big balls we use, if we were using smaller balls all they'd have to do is duck; here you really have to move your feet to get out of the way." Reader(s) are remi...
Chillar's role on the team
2008-06-04 13:01:00
Through the first several Organized Team Activity (OTA) practices, Brady Poppina remains the starting strong side linebacker for the Green Bay Packers with new free agent pickup Brandon Chillar as the backup. It's still early, and it's possible that Chillar could push for a starting job by September, but head coach Mike McCarthy seems set on having Chillar serve a very particular role for the Packers for the time being."Chillar gives us excellent flexibility," McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He can line up in all three positions, and by the time we're finished with our spring football here, he'll be able to play all three positions. He'll be part of the sub-packages, sub-personnel. Very athletic, and he definitely can run, and you have to be able to run at the linebacker position in our scheme. Really I like his work ethic. He came in from day one, jumped right into the off-season program, didn't miss a beat, and he's really done a very nice job of fitting in he...
Rays could become the team others are jealous of
2008-06-02 16:59:00
The Tampa Bay Rays are already the most talented young organization in baseball, so this week baseball executives around the league will be hoping scouting director R.J. Harrison lays an egg when he makes the first overall pick in the draft. Adding another excellent young player is just going to make the Rays a little tougher in the years to come. General managers such as Theo Epstein and Brian Cashman have seen this coming for a while; with that many top choices in a short period of time, it can only mean top talent coming to the majors in a hurry. That's the reason executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman tied up Rocco Baldelli (another story altogether), James Shields, Scott Kazmir, and Evan Longoria with long-term deals. Next offseason, he will have to deal with pending free agent Carl Crawford, truly one of the most underappreciated players in baseball and a guy who has lived through the Rays' struggles since he was drafted in the second round in 1999, ...
Why He'll Make the Team #1: Wesley Woodyard
2008-05-31 13:03:00
As my first attempt at some useful copy here on MHR, I thought I would start at the bottom of the barrel, try to counter-act some the negativity that comes with the months of scrutiny between combine and season, and try to make an argument for why some of the guys who are falling off of people's depth charts will end up on the squad. I am calling the series: Why He'll Make the Team We are going to start first with one of my favorite UFA pickups of the year, Wesley Woodyard. Admittedly I, as a Lexington, KY native, hold a place in my heart for UK Wildcats, but this guy has a whole lot going for him. He also took a lot of knocks in the last few months. We will look at those, and then I'll try to refute them. The Criticisms Most scouting profiles on Woodyard complain about 3 things: his "tweener" size, lack of direction changing speed and concerns about his strength. In addition his body control and hip fluidity have been questioned. Let's deal with his size first. The criti...

Rio: Wes Is Keeping Nev Out Of The Team
2008-05-04 15:44:00
Wes Brown is the defender with the most appearances this season, which is somewhat ironic, considering he has been second choice for much of his United career. Whilst starting consistently during the 05-06 season, in the centre alongside Rio Ferdinand, Wes has struggled to keep a first team place down in his long career with ...
Join The Team - Write At The Baptist Muse
2008-05-02 07:01:00
I proposed the idea of having guest bloggers for the first time two months ago. Initially, I had a great response. Several people volunteered to write articles here and every article received was an excellent piece of literature. Recently, however, very few people have been interested in this idea. This is my attempt to revitalize that idea. I would love to have a whole bunch of people who would be willing to write an article at certain intervals. Maybe you could write once or twice a month. Great! I would love to move this website away from a 'Nicholas Cardot' theme and more into a community theme. I want this website to be all about you. You don't have to be the best writer in the world. Be passionate. Be honest. Be real. We'll publish your work and give you the recognition you deserve! If you are reading this article ?Write For Us? , it?s probably because you are interested in writing for The Baptist Muse. Great! :) I would like to develop a team of writers, prea...

(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Hockey’s most mysterious quality is momentum. It wavers at times — is obliterated, even — from shift to shift. LET THE FANS OWN THE TEAM
2008-04-08 14:23:00
Sign up. Vote. Buy it. Run it. Four simple steps that sound way too easy to for the average fantasy sports fan to become an owner of a professional sports team. If you think about it for a second, the average fantasy football player has more knowledge then a fair amount of professional sports team owners out there, just image how effective thousands of fantasy football players would be at running a professional sports team. So what is it exactly that makes OwnMyTeam.com confident enough to stand behind their concept of allowing fans the ability to own and operate a pro sports team, propelling them into the U.S. sports history books for accomplishing this task? The concept of an organized group of individuals owning and operating a professional sports team is perfectly plausible and completely sound from a legal standpoint thanks to the establishment of their secure trust. After all, why we've already seen the concept become a fully functional entity in England, proving that it ...
Bahrain GP: I've let the team down - Hamilton
2008-04-07 04:44:00
April 7, BBC NewsLewis Hamilton said he had failed his McLaren team after finishing 13th in the Bahrain Grand Prix and losing the lead of the world championship.Hamilton made a mistake at the start, dropped to the back after a collision with former team-mate Fernando Alonso and was unable to make up lost ground."I am really disappointed and feel like I let the team down," he said."You need to pick up the pieces and deliver points. I didn't do that. The collision with Alonso cost the race."The 23-year-old Englishman slipped from third to 10th at the start of the race to find himself stuck behind Alonso's Renault.Hamilton tried to get past Alonso on the second lap but instead he went up and over the back of the Spaniard's car, losing his front wing in the process. Some observers suggested Alonso appeared to slow down and give Hamilton a "brake test" but the McLaren driver refused to condemn his former McLaren team-mate."I am always the first to blame it on myself," said Hamilton. "T...

Implications of Smith making the team
2008-03-30 18:02:00
Multiple sources are now reporting that Joe Smith has made the team in the final bull-pen spot.So here's the Bull-pen: Closer-WagnerSet-Up man- HeilmanSeventh Inning- Wise Late Inning LOOGY- FelicianoMiddle Reliever/early LOOGY- Schoeneweis, Ground ball Specialist/ROOGY- Smith Long Man- SosaSmith went from almost last on the depth chart to start the spring, all the way back to making the team. Once Smith started to show some of the form he had in the first half of '07' it made sense for the team to carry him. He's still a long way from that dominant reliever he was but was good enough to be given a shot and more importantly gives the team flexibility. I see him being brought in to induce ground balls when a starter runs out of gas and gets in trouble ( 6th inning - two on no outs). If he faulters, then Sanchez can be brought up when he's ready and Wise can be moved into the ground ball ROOGY spot. Smith would go down to further develop without any roster implication. Assuming t...

Home is Where the Heart Is For The Nationals: The Team Checks Out Its New Digs; Nationals Park, Washington D.C., March 27th, 2008Okay, this is an Oriole blog, but I am a fan of baseball in general. Here's a story I did for the DC Sports Box, as I got to attend the event at Nationals Park where the players got to see the completed ballpark last night.***With one the biggest days ever in Washington sports history ready to be ushered with the new ballpark opening on the Anacostia waterfront, the spotlight of the baseball world will be on the area Sunday night against the Atlanta Braves. On Thursday night, the Nationals? players along with manager Manny Acta and his staff finally got to see their new digs at the ballpark. For many, it was the first time.It was like Christmas for many, and for the players ? all of whom are obviously grown men, acted like kids who had gotten a present that they ever-so-wished for. They came immediately on two chartered buses from Dulles Airport en route to...

Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright keeps taking one for the team (AP)
2008-03-19 20:53:00
Adam Wainwright has been tough to hit this spring — not counting the balls that have struck him. She is someone that I love very much. We have worked together in the past. We, both, ended up going through addictions and crisis of spirit. She is a prophetess. Our work, together, in the past, was full of supernatural events. God, truly, used us in amazing ways. But, we went our separate ways and lost touch with each other. The call, Friday, came completely unexpected, but was met with great joy. She is fighting her way back into the arms of God.Sunday, I got anoth...
