Blogs Cannot Be Monitored All The Time: Google India
2009-06-23 09:30:00 In what seems to be Google’s argument against recent cases for its blogging platform referring to illegitimate and defamatory content, Google India has stated that it cannot monitor its blogging platform all the time in short it cannot be held liable for the content for various reasons. Google’s argument? The company has carried its argument to Bombay High Court over an earlier order restraining the company from allowing the publication of defamatory blogs pertaining to a case filed by Dr Ashwin Mehta alleging defamatory views on over 20 blogs on its blogger platform. It goes on to say,“The blogger service is provided by Google Inc. We (Google India) are not a party to the agreement between Google Inc(USA) and those who use the blog.We have no liability or responsibility for the content of the blog.” It further argues its case by saying that blog-hosting companies cannot monitor what is posted on blogs all the time. This means Google India and other foreign online companie...

Has The Time Come For Politicians 2.0?
2009-06-08 06:58:00 If you could go back in time and ask the Twitter founders what they think of their service, they would have told you that it’s a micro-blogging service for friends to communicate with a quick exchange of 140 characters. Ask them now, and they would tell you that Twitter can be used to leverage a business, to get instant feedback and create a buzz that any other media platform can never even dream of. And they would be right. No one’s yet sure how Twitter and other social media services are going to have a profitable business model in the future, but like millions of others, I am hooked. And it’s not just me, recent times has seen celebs giving themselves an online voice through social media. Remember the good days of our beloved A.P.J. Abdul Kalam maintaining his official website? And how can you forget the (failure?) online campaign by L.K. Advani during the recent fiasco. The success of Barack Obama’s online escapades on the American shores? Under Obama, the White Hous...

In USA Users Spend Double the Time on Social Networks Now
2009-06-05 06:18:00 Facebook leads the pack here not in only in terms of number of users active but also with regards to the number of hours spent on the site. The total number of minutes spent on Facebook surged 700 percent year-on-year to 13.9 bn in April this year from 1.7 bn. However, it is Twitter who took the cake home really, the time spent on the popular microblog rose by as much as 3700 percent compared to last year. This firmly places the reason why many think Twitter will change the way live, for it is actually gaining momentum in terms of usage, but that’s on a different tangent to this post and so we will talk about it later. These numbers were presented in a Nielsen Report that came out some while back. Some other points to note and social networks mentioned include Blogger, Tagged.com and Myspace. Together these sites formed the 5 most active social networking platforms on the web (though not really in that order). MySpace came second with 4.71 bn minutes which is a sharp 31 perc...

Top Ten Twitter TV Shows (Twitter All Day, All The Time)
2009-05-27 21:54:00 Remember when CNN first entered our lives and people were shocked that any network could take on the daunting task of supplying us with a news format 24/7. "Unheard of?" "Couldn't be done?" And yet, here we are some 20+ years later, and CNN has not only sustained itself but was the impetus for other news networks to populate as well. Well,in 2009, the web is currently abuzz with talk of a “Twitter TV Network.” According to Biz Stone, one of Twitter founders, he's "even getting folks asking (him)if they can audition." Could Twitter TV be the next evolution in the short life span of the micro-bloggin' darling of social media?
Google the most relevant search engine? Not all the time
2009-05-27 13:29:00 I've been checking some results pages on some terms that one of my clients targets, and was somewhat dissatisfied with the results that Google returns on these terms. The phrases that I have been looking for here specifically were: Alternative to cosmetic surgery Alternative to plastic surgery Looking at these terms, its quite clear that the searcher is NOT looking for cosmetic/plastic surgery, and the results displayed on Yahoo and MSN respectively seem to reflect that, with a few exceptions: Yahoo: MSN/Live: However when it came to searching on Google, it seemed that a lot of the results being displayed were for cosmetic/plastic surgeons. This baffled me somewhat, as the search term is clearly suggesting that the user isn't looking for someone to perform this type of procedure, and is looking for an "Alternative" - with this being a core word within the phrase. The first 2 results are relevant to the term, but most of the others on page 1 were not: After g...

China IP Protection. "It's Getting Better All The Time...."
2009-05-18 00:25:00 I have a young relative who has for quite some time been "a challenge" for his parents. For years, whenever we would get together, we would all start out, charitably enough, by spending around thirty seconds talking about how "he's getting better." For the next ten to fifteen minutes we would then enumerate all the things he had done that made us all feel good he was not our child. China's intellectual property protection tends to get the same treatment. There seems to be near universal agreement that things are getting better in China, and yet the focus is always on how bad things are. The International Trademark Association (INTA) is putting on its 131st annual meeting in Seattle this week and since I am nearly fully booked for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with someone attending, I figure I am going to be getting asked a lot about China's progress on IP. My answer will be as follows: Trademark. Much, much better than widely believed. Much (though certainly not all) of ...

MURKOWSKI SAYS NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO CUT MISSILE DEFENSE
2009-02-23 21:56:00 Senator Murkowski out hunting with her dog.WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Citing news reports that North Korea may be preparing to test a long-range, nuclear warhead capable missile that could reach Alaska, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said today that now is not the time to cut missile defense funding as a key senator recently suggested.Murkowski was responding to news reports that said North Korea has built a new launch center for long-range missiles and that recent satellite images showed a North Korean train thought to be carrying a Taepodong-2 missile. Experts believe those missiles are capable of reaching as far as Alaska. North Korea test-fired a Taepodong-2 missile three years ago but the test was reportedly a failure.?As recently as July 2006, our ground based missile defense system was brought to the operational level for the first time to address North Korea?s launch of seven ballistic missiles,? Murkowski said. ?The troubling decision by the government of North Korea last week...

LiveTime - New App Allows Constant Display of the Time on Your Clock Icon!
2009-01-24 04:47:00 The creator of Clippy, Ryan Petrich, has done it again. Just 24 hours after he released his ground breaking copy and paste application, he now presents LiveTime. LiveTime basically animates the current time on the stock clock icon on the SpringBoard, allowing it to continuously display and update right there on the icon itself. When you first install LiveTime it automatically animates the clock icon just like a real analogue clock face with the hour, minute and second hands. However, it overlays the animation onto the stock icon so you will notice that you can still see 10:15…

Losing300 pounds was not the first thing that occurred to me, butrather "what could I do to get healthy and eat right". It wasa very strange approach given that I was obviously clinicallyobese and immediately needed some quick weight loss.I had no idea that our body used food in a very specific manorand that we could improve our energy levels by working withthe body, not against it. There were some very specific rulesto follow, so being the good student I followed them. Itbecame a religion for me and as I preached it, I made manypeople quite crazy. China's Bar Exam. It's Getting Better All The Time.
2008-11-26 20:04:00 In his post, "The Bar is Passing People By," A Modern Lei Feng sets out the following pass rates for China's bar exam: 2002 - 8%, 2003 - 11% 2004 - 11% 2005 - 14% 2006 - 15% 2007 - 22% He goes on to posit that the percentages for this year's recently completed bar exam will be even higher and wonders whether China's rising bar pass rate will be a permanent thing. I think we will be seeing a higher pass rate in China for quite some time because, but as China becomes an increasingly more legalistic society (on the business front anyway), there will be an increasing need for lawyers.

Sacramento: Is Now the Time to Buy?
2008-10-21 17:23:00 Now is always a good time to buy. Or so goes sales-speak. But perhaps there is a reason for it beyond just the job of sales? (Yes, it's a job... like any other!) But today I want to discuss with you why I say that about real estate in general and real estate in Sacramento in particular. Time, not TimingAs you can probably tell, I'm not a big fan of timing the market - real estate or otherwise. True, some people can do it pretty well and profit from it, but I believe most people use market timing retrospectively to justify their own fears or expectations. In other words, when the market goes down, the fearful ones feel justified; when it house prices appreciate, the optimistic ones feel victorious. With all this tongue thrusting at one another, the reality of historical price appreciation, the inherent value in real estate and population growth gets ignored. As someone pretty smart once said, "It's about time in the market, not about timing the market." I wish I could remember who...

Taking The Time
2008-06-10 17:53:00 By Cameron ClarkMy oldest daughter, Ainsley, had been having a real hard time going to sleep at night since her little sister was born in early April. Ainsley would find a way to stay up (as late as 10:30), stay around her mama, daddy, and sister, and would make us pay dearly should we dare to put her to bed before she passed out on the floor. Of all the new situations coming our way as a family since our latest arrival, this was the most intolerable. How we fixed it was by a happy mistake.Ainsley loves to read, sing, and dance. She really is one of the happiest children I have ever been around, and seeing her throw fits and run herself into the ground was hard to watch as a daddy. The conclusion: Let her do what she loves. We tried to let her dance, but she partied right on through the night (a habit her daddy hopes changes before she goes off to college). We tried to let her sing, but she sang until midnight. So, we tried reading. We suspected reading to be the least effective solu...
Finding the Time to Write
2008-06-08 19:15:00 Everyone encounter times when they simply don’t have any time to write their blog posts, their e-book, or their web content. If you have a lot of commitments that hinder you from completing a post at your leisure, then you need to make the most of your spare time. First though, you need to make a commitment to write regularly because otherwise, you will always have an excuse to do something else. Here are some tips on how you can effectively find the time to write even when it seems you cannot have enough time to do it: Make the time ? you need to find at least 15 minutes a day to write. Once you start looking for that 15-minutes, you might discover you actually have some time to spare. This can mean setting the alarm 15 minutes before you actually need to get up or sleeping 15 minutes later than usual. Make a calendar ? mark off days when it is essential for you to write and stick to it. It is incredibly easy to put writing off until you discover that it has been several week... |
