Update on Strickland brawl from the summer
2008-10-22 04:47:00
Many will remember the brawl involving Audra Strickland’s Chief of Staff, Joel Angeles, with demonstrators over the summer. As an update, it appears that Angeles has battery charges that are being referred to the California State Attorney General. Read more of the story here. Ew The Stricklands need to go.  Their behavior and who they associate with ...
John McCain demonstrating his brilliance
2008-05-18 22:38:00
Just how does the McCain spout this stuff? It’s amazing. How did the folks in Arizona ever vote for him? His dishonesty doesn’t even have a molecule of intelligence in it. The question is “Does McCain make this stuff up as he goes along?”, or “Is does his age and health stop ...
George Bush is not funny
2008-03-24 08:53:00
This is a week old, but I just saw it and can’t believe Bush would be so ignorant and insensitive. But of course. Take a look at this and think of every family that lost a loved one in Iraq. Coupled with his recent remarks that included the notion that fighting in Iraq ...
House fails to override Bush?s veto of anti-torture bill
2008-03-13 07:47:00
George Bush vetoed a bill that would have prohibited the CIA from torturing and abusing prisoners and detainees. This morning the House voted on whether to override Bush’s veto.  Unfortunately the vote failed to meet the two thirds majority needed to override the veto. Click here to see how your representative voted on this issue.  “Yea” was ...
The Ugly American
2007-12-12 21:07:00
The Grassy Knoll Institute curator steps up to the plate. Since i have thrown my hat into the political ring and decided to run for president in 2008, many people, (11 people so far) have asked what I would do if elected. How would I get the country back on its feet? All good ...
The Ugly American Goes to Rio
2007-07-10 02:51:00
Americans have been losing big international-relations points in South America lately. First there was the story of a simpering Cameron Diaz wearing a Maoist messenger bag while visiting Peru's historic Machu Picchu, oblivious to the fact that tens of thousands of Peruvians had died at the hands of the wicked Maoist Sendero Luminoso ("Shining Path") guerillas. Now we find out that members of the United States Olympic Committee have been perpetuating the "Ugly American" stereotype yet again while visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Pan-American Games. One of the USOC workers wrote "Welcome to the Congo!" on a dry-erase board in the Pan-American Games media Center. USOC media employee Kevin Neuendorf claimed that the words were written because "it’s really hot in Rio." Of course, anyone with an inkling of a notion about world travel would know that July is wintertime in the Southern Hemisphere, so the excuse he gave is dubious at best. Once we discover that the temperature that ...
The Ugly American[s]
2007-02-09 21:26:01
The book that used this subject heading as its title was published while we were studying in Oxford where we actually met George Kennan shortly before his nervous breakdown as he was shifting his views on the most realistic ways that we might deal with the world in the context of the Cold War: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ug-ly_American http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ge-orge_F._Kennan Those of ...
Germans now the ugly Americans of Europe
2007-02-05 21:17:01
Taking full advantage of its highly responsible European Union presidency role (not), and living up to its promise of making the environment one of its top priorities (not), Germany now appears to be actively undermining European Union efforts to help combat climate change. Normally very vocal about proclaiming itself a role model for all things that ...
The Ugly American - Boras May Make Matsuzaka Miss Dream
2006-12-13 19:40:01
The Devil and Dice-K in late November in L.A. (AP Photo) $cott Bora$ held a news conference yesterday to basically say nothing he hasn't said before. When asked why he was even holding the conference in the first place he coyly  replied, "I think this is the American way." If the way Boras is handling these "negotiations" is the "American Way" then it certainly isn't the America Norman Rockwell visioned while painting. It seems more like something that would come from the demented mind of Don King instead. The Red Sox are earnestly trying to get a deal done for both them and Matsuzaka. They've basically just made a counter offer against themselves (which is unbelievable in itself) after repeated attempts to get in contact with $cott regarding Matsuzaka. Epstein had this to say on his decision:  "Although it's normally not good policy to make a second offer without receiving a counteroffer, we want to demonstrate to Matsuzaka and to f...
