Freedom of speech in the United States
2009-09-07 20:42:00
Freedom of speech in the United States Lately, I have been the recipient of several rather hate-filled emails and messages on Yahoo Messenger. I have to assume that these messages and emails were from Obama supporters, quite likely very liberal Obama supporters. The messages were telling me to STOP writing the things I write concerning the ...
Is The United States In a ?Low Grade? Civil War?
2009-08-21 17:17:00
It is a chilling question and one that has been troubling me for about two weeks.  I read the “low grade civil war” phrase as a declarative statement from a commenter on a news story about the Congressional Town Hall meetings and it has been rattling in my brain ever since. I’ve been wanting to post ...
From Havana to the United States: Publishing dreams
2009-07-11 16:00:00
Due to the embargo and the chilly relationship between the United States and Cuba,we often don't hear much about music, literature and art from the island.Sure you've probably heard of the Buena Vista Social Club, but many Americans probably can't name a contemporary Cuban writer.Well let me tell you about one and how you can get his books online. His name is Ernesto Santana and I first met him in 2002 when he was one of two plane loads of artists, writers and musicians that Fidel Castro allowed to leave Cuba to attend the Feria Internacional de Libro, the largest book festival in Latin America, in Guadalajara, Mexico.Santana is the author of "Ave and Nada," which won a major literary prize...
India Does What the United States Can't

http://lizards.opensuse.org/200-9/06/15/indian-government-takes--a-lead-in-getting-foss-in-educ-ation/ Here, would everybody like some positive Linux news for a change? The Indian government launches the FOSSEducation initiative. The details are there in the link, but I'd just like to point out a few phrases in the article which, as an American, just taste good to say out loud for a change. "...Gujarat State Education Board(GSEB) to give 50% weightage to Open Source and Linux in Computer subject across all streams (Science, Commerce and Arts)." A state education board setting a mandate of FOSS/Linux at least half the time! US education boards are still haggling over whether we can teach evolution or not. "Ministry of Human Resource Development" You know, as opposed to a "tech czar" in the US, who isn't even an engineer (Robert Cresanti has a BA and a JD), and whose chief concern seems to be making sure nobody listens to music or watches movies without paying. "the Nationa...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o4MwTvtyrUQ&feature=player_embe-dded A while back, I posted my sour-puss opinion that the United States is doomed, period, by its collective ignorance. I concluded that America needs a Renaissance, and it isn't going to happen. I haven't seen anything to change my mind yet. But one more fact comes to light to bolster that outlook: Google conducted a survey in Times Square, asking simple things like "What is a browser?" and "What's the difference between a browser and a search engine?" Is there a single American citizen who does not recognize the results? Watch that video; watch the dumb grins, the helpless flailing of hands, the shrugs, the fumbling and stuttering. At the end, the survey results are shown: less than 8% of the people could even get the first question right. Doubtless, the people knew that the company conducting the survey was named "Google", and so they repeated the word Google with baby-like mimicry. No doubt, they were only able ...

Report - Global Climate Change Impacts In The United States
2009-06-17 05:17:00
The Obama Administration has released an outdated report today (trust me on this) regarding global climate change impacts in 75 years. The short version (easily loaded) is here. The government version, like all things produced and run by government, never did load for me, but you can find it here. By the way, they’re ...

Is Wipro Engaging in Discrimination In the United States?
2009-05-21 10:48:00
This article really caught my eye. Indian IT service provider Wipro is increasing the number of US and European workers it employs so its customers in the regions will not stop buying from it if protectionism increases. At the launch of an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG)in February, designed to improve trade between the UK and India, IT suppliers spoke about the dangers of protectionist economic policies. Wipro, which employs 97,000, people, said it wanted to increase the number of employees outside India, and it is easier now because there are more available. Currently, about 8% of its workers are from outside India. Andy Gallagher, consultant at Compass Management Consulting, said Wipro is not alone in increasing the number of staff it has outside India. He said certain roles are traditionally provided by staff local to the customer or by people from India. "The offshore/onshore model, where you fly Indian staff over for a few months at a time,is losing its attractivene...

“Smart Grid” Powering The United States
2009-03-20 05:50:00
The “Smart Grid” is the idea on how the US will generate and distribute power across the US. Using alternative energy, the “Smart Grid” would connect alternative energy sources such as solar power, wind energy, and geothermal energy into the electricity infrastructure in around the country to businesses and homes. Using smart grid technology, your future home would be as likely to be powered by electricity from a neighbor’s roof-top solar panel, or a biomass generator on the edge of town, as from a traditional power plant 50 or 100 miles away. This setup would be great, however there’s still too few people who understand how it all works. Even though the “Smart Grid” is gaining momentum, there are some obstacles still in the way. The technology needed to create such a “Smart Grid” is still years away as our current infrastructure’s technology is outdated. There are companies that are working on the “Smart Gr...

Where is the United States?
2009-01-29 14:35:00
The post yesterday, on predictions for the United States, got a lot of peoples attention. I am not surprised but, hope that all that have read it see the significances to the end time prophesy of the Bible.I have been asked many times, where the United States is in the book of Revelation or if the United States is mentioned in the end times. Well, "no", it is not and if you read yesterday's post, you can see why.So, we could look at this as the United States becomes an undeveloped country, with no power or we could look at it another way.The Bible states, that all nations come against Israel. Many people say this is impossible. The U.S. would never turn its back on Israel. But, if we did not exist this very thing could happen. Below is a map of the divided U.S. that was published is the Wall Street Journal. It was drawn by Igor Panarin?s a Russian. The map is pure speculation and propaganda for Russia, but it is interesting.Click to enlargeCould this kind of thing happen. I believe...

Listen to the HotConflict Political Podcast.   Download Here Text of the SpeechHello, Chicago. If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that their voices could be that difference. It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states. We are, and always will be, t...
The Next President of the United States.
2008-11-05 06:37:00
A truly historic night.  A truly historic election.  I barely have the words.  This is an election that will inspire people of all races to dare to dream. To realize that ANYTHING is possible. Barack Obama is the American dream personified.  My words here don't even seem adequate for the magnitude of events that's taken place on November 4, 2008. But the American people have spoken, they've chosen HOPE over FEAR and UNITY over DIVISION.  I am very, very hopeful for the future of this country, but we all still need to do our part.  We need to get behind the new president, PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA and remain engaged and active and continue to offer up our prayers and support to this new administration.See election reactions [PHOTOS] from around the country.John McCain concedes the 2008 election [VIDEO]Bush to Obama: "What an Awesome Night For You"My mom won her race on 11/4/08 too!  Congrats Ms. Ronnie!

Utter Idiots and Why the United States Will Not Boycott the Beijing Olympic
2008-07-24 11:37:00
Okay, so I didn't really write this, but I have thought this so many times in my head that somehow my thoughts must have transferred nearly 1 to 1 to this post. The post is "Utter Idiots and Why the United States Will Not Boycott the Beijing Olympics" and with two very minor variations, it conveys my thinking, exactly. The two changes are that I would use a word weaker than idiot so as to offend a bit less and I am not as frustrated as the actual writer, Kai Pan. I also should credit Kai Pan for the history lesson regarding China's role in the 1984 Olympics; I have to admit I was not aware of that. During my first year blogging, those who accused me of being a Panda licker or a China hater angered me. During my second year of blogging they frustrated me. I am now indifferent, figuring those who make such comments either know not whereof they speak or simply have not been reading this blog long enough to know our actual views. Once I achieved indifference, I realized the o...

Can a radical become President of the United States?
2008-06-06 18:47:00
Glen Ford of Black Agenda Report has written a post entitled "Obama Resigns from Black Nation," taking the Democratic presidential nominee to task for resigning from Trinity United Church of Christ. Ford sees the decision as part of a pattern and proof that: "Barack Obama is true-blue to the slave holding forefathers and heroic blond mothers of the storybook U.S. of A. His intense (white) nationalist fealty to the Indian-killer and slave-whipper compels him to reject out of hand the African American version of U.S. and world history - to compulsively dismiss both the Black counter-narrative and narrators, like Rev. Wright." Ford goes on to say:By all rights, Obama ought to just keep on steppin' out of Black America entirely, since his real problem lies with the two-edged sword of Black nationalism. The great irony of the Obama phenomenon is, his fundamental strength in the Democratic primaries - near-universal Black support - is based on an ideology that is a nightmare to white vot...

Immortal Technique is playing at the Coronet in London tonight and I'm going. He often raps about conspiracy theories, although he doesn't like that term as he explains on The Cause Of Death. But almost every line here outlines a new conspiracy theory or alarming fact. It's powerful in its relentlessness, and listening to it reminds me of watching the conspiracy theory film Zeitgeist. Alarming, thought-provoking, extremely misguided in places, but you have to admire the passion, anger and desire to educate the listener - all of which are conspicuously absent from so much of today's hip hop music.Immortal Technique - The Cause Of Death (iTunes)

The Hottest Governor in the United States to Sue the Interior Department?Ov
2008-05-22 18:15:00
Gov. Sarah Palin, mother of five and the Governor of Alaska, says “The state of Alaska will sue to challenge the recent listing of polar bears as a threatened species.” Ah, if we only have about forty-nine more governors like this hottie, er, governor: She and other Alaska elected officials fear a listing will cripple oil and gas development in prime polar bear habitat off the state’s northern and northwestern coasts. Palin argued that there is not enough evidence to support a listing. Polar bears are well-managed and their population has dramatically increased over 30 years as a result of conservation, she said. Climate models that predict continued loss of sea ice, the main habitat of polar bears, during summers are unreliable, said Palin, a Republican. Notice anything? They were sure to note, very clearly, that Palin was a Republican. Good for her. I think she might be a good choice for McCain’s Vice President. Maybe she could straighten out his glob...
