The War
2007-09-30 23:24:00 World War II has always fascinated me. It was America uprising as the greatest power in the world. It was when we united as a nation to fight off a fascist regime and save Europe. In fact, my grandfather was a bombardier serving in Italy.Last week was the premier of Ken Burns' "The War" series. He did a "Civil War" series that was critically acclaimed and "The War" is projected to blow it out of the water. It follows the lives of numerous men in four different cities across the U.S. If you get a chance, tune into PBS tonight (Sunday) at 8 or 10:30 and watch this film series. The movie has been hyped up on Meet the Press, Fox News, CNN, etc. This is going to be a powerful film and probably the best World War II documentary of all time.

The War Against Israel in America: Part Two
2007-03-28 14:29:00 Imagine a major orchestra playing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, with a very large chorale on stage to sing during the final movement. Their voices are easily heard throughout the hall. Today in America, we have the unusual situation of a similarly large collection of writers, and academics and propagandists, a chorus, if you may, all of whom are hostile to Israel and its supporters in America. And they are singing together in newspaper columns, magazine articles, TV and radio interviews, books, academic papers, conferences, and lectures. What they all are saying is: … Read More… ---Related Articles at 1913 Intel: Accept peace plan or face war, Israel toldCivil defenseless: We're not ready for nuclear attackLA Times and Israel's "Right to Exist" Summer conflict named Second Lebanon WarThe War in America Against Israel (part one)Averting the Next Gulf War

The War in America Against Israel (part one)
2007-03-21 13:49:00 The New York Times has already revealed that it is preparing a series of articles commemorating the Six Day War, during which Israel took control of the West Bank from Jordan. (Jordan had seized and annexed the West Bank after Israel’s 1948 war of Independence). In that same Six Day War, Israel took the Golan Heights (from which Syria had shelled Israeli farmers in the Galilee for decades) from Syria, Gaza (which Egypt had seized in the 1948 war and then occupied, and which was given by Israel to the Palestinians in 2005) and the Sinai peninsula from Egypt. The Sinai was returned in its entirety to Egypt after the Camp David accord of 1979. Given the laziness of many members of the journalistic class, a major story in the New York Times such as this one will be borrowed or excepted by many other newspapers. We can predict the themes of this coming New York Times assault on Israel, from reading a recent article by Steve Erlanger, the Times’ bureau chief in Israel, and s...

Post-imperial attitudes: Britain after the war and Russia today
2007-03-21 13:19:00 MOSCOW. (Ian Pryde for RIA Novosti) - In June 1992, the president of the Kyrgyz Republic, Askar Akayev, a research physicist before going into politics, told me in an interview that although the former Soviet republics were flying apart just like the universe after the Big Bang, eventually they would be drawn back together again by their own gravity. So it should be no surprise that after the apparent chaos of the 1990s, cooperation among the former republics is increasing, nor that Russia’s commodity-fuelled recovery has seen Moscow become more assertive in recent years. The real surprise is that these trends have caught most Western and Russian observers off guard. Iraqi Catholic Bishop on the War
2007-03-20 23:06:00 Due to comments that were made in the previous post about the war, I decided to post something else that caught my attention. Many of us are, in general, good-natured people, who do not like to see other people suffering and especially due to oppression of certain regimes. We all have a common purpose, but somehow we differ in how to achieve it. Pope John Paul II did not hesitate nor apologize in repudiating the war and many of the faithful (myself included) struggled with his position. At the same time, those of us who do not support the war will not apologize either when repudiating unjust situations. Personally, I do believe that it is irresponsible to take a position like Nancy Pelosi who wants to pull the troops out immediately. We are there, we caused the chaos in Iraq, now we have to fix it at all cost, but that does not mean that we are going to paint this war as a just (and good) one.But what does the Church in Iraq have to say about the war? Chaldean Auxiliary Bishop Shlemo...

The War in Afghanistan: No Excuses
2007-03-16 08:35:00 We owe a moral debt to the people of Afghanistan, and our inability to cover the tab is largely because of the disaster in Iraq. The Iraq war has impacted the Afghanistan campaign in all sorts of negative ways. It has weakened the will of Western governments to meet their obligations, and has added immeasurably to public cynicism. Yet the inescapable fact remains that we owe a moral debt that must be honored.Let's not forget that the removal of the Taliban was mandated by the United Nations, and all the Muslim member countries stood together in a call for the removal of the regime. But five years down the road the campaign is mired in difficulty in the face of a resurgent Taliban, although I use that term advisedly since foreign fighters have moved into the arena also - small groups of jihadis along with increasing numbers of Pashtuns, some from homeland regions in Pakistan. This is happening in part because countries that made a commitment to Afghanistan have been reneging on thei...

2007-03-07 10:26:00 The Warren Cup (Roman, mid-1st century AD) - Antique Domestic SilverThe Warren Cup - Silver, Roman Mid-First Century BC (H:11 cm D: 9.9 cm) - British MuseumI confess I have a particularly strong feeling for ancient domestic objects, as opposed to 'great art'. The marble sculptures of the Parthenon are all very nice in their way (!), but, for me, there is something more effecting and intimate about objects such as The Warren Cup, a Roman silver cup in a Hellentistic (Greek) style. And of course part of its attraction must be its gay subject. The cup takes it name from its first modern owner, the art collector Edward Perry Warren (1860-1928). And has only been in the public arena since the 1980's, when it was acquired by the British Museum. It is said to have been found in Bittir (ancient Bethther), near Jerusalem. Questions immediately arise. How did it get to the Middle East? Or was it locally made? What kind of people owned it? What were their lives like? Did they lead an openly ...

The Truth About ?The Long War? ? The War with Islam
2007-03-02 01:05:02 For years now I have been trying to alert my readers to the ugly truth behind the poorly named “War on Terror”, and finally you are going to see that idea dabbled with in a way that will come dangerously close to admitting the “unspeakable”: that we are actually in a war with Islam. Ted Koppel on the Discovery Channel will present: Our Children’s Children’s War Premieres Sunday, March 11, at 9 p.m. ET/PT If you expect the War on Terror to end with the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, or with the establishment of a stable government in Afghanistan, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. While the eyes of the world focus on those conflicts, the U.S. military is fighting an unconventional war that could last generations. Widely known as the War on Terror, the outgoing commander of the U.S. military’s Central Command, Gen. John Abizaid, refers to it as “The Long War.” Ted Koppel presents an in-depth special report on a war th...
Continued Lies about The War on Terror
2007-02-22 10:26:00 Yesterday in a very under-publicized story (USA TODAY 8A), the US Justice Department's investigations of Terror Crime reporting has found that many crimes have been classified as Terror-related by Federal prosecutors when they were not. Since 9/11, the Fed prosecutors have been counting crimes such as drug trafficking, immigration violations, and marriage fraud as terror-related! According to the article, "The flawed data appeared to result from haphazard disagreement over how to report the numbers..."Flawed data and information seem to be a trademark of this current administration. While on the surface this seems like a small story, in actuality this is a major deal and should be pursued to find the source of the "errata" more specifically. What such innocent mistake reports do is allow the President and the military to back up their saga about the extent of terrorism in America with bogus numbers. More money, more clout, more troops, they can all be had by accepting such data...
The War On Terror Is A War On Drugs
2007-02-21 17:47:01 In modern times America?s War on Terror has become a source of much speculation and debate the world over, from cosy octogenarians sitting in mansions wearing cardigans, to young people who like Hollyoaks, everybody?s got their opinion. It has been made clear by the US government that terrorism, in all its forms all over the world, should be combated. A less known war being fought by America is their War on Drugs. The US has a problem with Cocaine, also known as Charlie, Blow, Snow, Nose candy, C, White, Percy, and Peruvian marching dust. Massive amounts enter its borders annually, and despite the best efforts of the Border Patrol, it is just too lucrative a business; for every shipment they might manage to stop, several pass in unnoticed, carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of powder.
