Is the Writer?s Strike Over?
2008-05-20 08:20:00
I haven’t been hearing anything on the writer’s strike recently and was just wondering if it has ended now. I know one of my favorite tv shows is Earl that comes on NBC and they were showing reruns due to the writers strike. I really hope they get things worked out soon, if they haven’t ...
The Writer’s strike; An example of Unions
2008-04-20 17:50:00
Over at OTB, James has noted that TV watching just isn’t the same. He notes an AdAge article: Just because your favorite dramas and comedies are back on the air after the writers strike doesn’t mean you’re necessarily watching them. A preliminary look at ratings of returning programs on the big broadcast networks reveals that the “majority of original programming has failed to return to its pre-strike levels among key demos,” according to Havas media-buying shop MPG. The firm found that audiences are “coming back to some of the shows, but not most of them,” said Nina Kanter, VP-director of communications analysis at MPG. […] There are legitimate reasons for the ratings declines. Some shows have seen their competition alter as networks rearrange their schedules. CBS’s “NCIS” and “Criminal Minds” now face Fox’s “American Idol,” for instance. Because most networks put the bulk of their marketing spending into promos that run on their own air, it’s ...

Hollywood is happy today. At last there?s an end in sight for The Writers Guild Strike. The Writer In Me
2008-02-10 16:08:00
Back when I was in school, my teachers always say how one day I will be writer. I just laughed it off and consider it as a funny joke. I mean, just because I write well in school does not mean I will be a writer right? Then as I grew up, I started writing. I started writing my journal. I started writing in my diary everyday about the things that happened to me even though it was the most insignificant event like that stranger who suddenly smiled at me at the bus stop. It was my record of the life I lead.I still have those diaries now as I read through my entries sometimes, I am so glad that I actually document it all coz the events might have been insignificant then but now it makes me laugh, it makes me cry and it makes me remember what my life was like once upon a time. Now, here I am, writing again but in an online journal for the world to read. It would never be as personal as a diary but to share with all what's going on in my life is somewhat scary I think. Sometimes I don't e...

As a bit of a follow-up to the item posted below about Wikipedia and their short-comings in the payment department, I’d like to draw everyone’s attention to this funny and poignant rant by writer Harlan Ellison. It very adequately highlights the issues creative people, like writers and illustrators, face when it comes to receiving (or not, as it may be) payment for their work. Next Governor Poll by the Writers
2007-07-29 03:53:00
This Vizu poll thing is started to take over our blogs. While it is fun, it is getting to be a bit much (this coming from the guy who posted three attack blogs yesterday).Middle Road added another poll yesterday, this time asking the question, "Who should and could be the next Governor of the CNMI?" The choices are as follows:Opinion Polls & Market ResearchBreathe easy, Career Politicians of the CNMI; I can't run until I'm 35.Just a few thoughts:I guess they left off Ben Fitial because he is already governor, therefore he can't be the next governor. What about Tim Villagomez? Why no love for my primo? I've also heard rumors that Pedro P. Tenorio and Joe Ayuyu are likely candidates. Comments on the Middle Road blog also mention Tina Sablan, the package guy at the Post Office, Jimmy Buffet, and Holani Smith as potential candidates.Whatev.I think every person with political ambitions on this island wants to be Governor. And I think that almost everybody on this island has politica...

Wondering What the Hell the Writers on Grey's Anatomy Were Thinking Last Ni
2007-05-19 00:30:00
Shonda Rhimes, Grey's Anatomy's Writer, Speaks Out on Why She Decided To Burn Down the House on Grey's Last Night:"So the third season began with Meredith helping Izzie remove her prom dress and ended with Meredith helping Cristina get out of her wedding gown. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but…I like a little symmetry. This season was important to me. It wasn’t as light as Season Two and for good reason – our characters were in a darker place. I needed to put Meredith’s mother to rest, Izzie’s grief to rest, and the race for Chief to rest. George needed to grow up on a monumental level and then come full circle to where he was when we first met him in the pilot. Meredith had to finally try to face the fact that she’s damaged when it comes to relationships. I wanted to put Bailey on the path of questioning her standing as The Chosen One. Both Burke and Derek needed to hit a relationship wall, each in their own ways. And then there’s Cristina…Oh, the Cr...

Watch the Oscars with David Spade and the writers of The Showbiz Show!
2007-02-23 15:26:02
Dear The Internet Posted By: davidspade It's David Spade. Whatever. The 3rd season of the ShowBiz Show airs March 15th so I thought it's about time I get with 1994 technology and get a website and a TurboGrafx 16. I meant to do it last season but I got distracted by a video of a monkey smelling its finger. I realized that since the ShowBiz Show only airs on Thursday nights, there are about 160-something hours a week you'll have to spend just sitting online looking at porn. And how many hours can you really spend looking at porn? 10? 100? 1000? (Answer: C). Either way there's at least an hour a week that you'll have nothing to do. On Sunday night, the Showbiz Show is having an Oscar party and all the writers and I will be watching and liveblogging it starting at 4PM L.A. time and going until the Oscars end. Sound fun? It will be for you, not me. I could be at a party, but I'll be with seven dudes in flannel shirts texting their wives during commercials. T...
