Thelma & Louise: Instead of Freedom, They Chose Prison
2008-07-28 14:16:00 "You get what you settle for."Thelma and Louise 1991 movieI missed this movie when it first came out. Finally making the time for this "girlfriend" classic, I looked forward to wild adventures and renegade women. Instead I found women who managed to escape from one prison only to securely lock themselves in another. The movie unfolds into one shackle after another as each woman makes a choice to leave behind a world that either bores or pains them only to plunge into a lawless, lifeless abyss.I was so disappointed in the courageous attitude of these women who seemed to spend more time reacting to events than to planning and creating them. Still, I do love the quote "You get what you settle for." It helps keep me in check when I am grumbling about my place in life. - I have what I've settled for. So the question each of us should ask is are we happy with what we have?Women's Success History Modernizing the wisdom and trials of the women who blazed the paths before us. Visit http://f...

Help put Thelma Drake in the unemployment line!!
2008-03-29 18:48:00 VA-02 is, in my opinion, one of our best chances to pickup a congressional seat in Virginia and as Lowell pointed out early last week, the DCCC agrees. Let’s help VA-02 elect Glenn Nye and thereby put one of America’s worst public servants in the unemployment line! From a message I received this morning on Facebook from Glenn Nye: Friends, March 31st is an extremely important deadline for Glenn’s Campaign–its the day he has to file his first fundraising report! Thelma Drake, our opponent, had Dick Cheney host a fundraiser for her, but we can win if YOU help. Can you contribute $25 or $15 or even $5? http://glennnye.com/contributio-ns We’ve been seeing it a lot this year, time and again–change begins when we all work together. Small donations, when lots of committed people stand as one voice, can beat the rich and powerful. Can you get five friends to contribute $5? http://glennnye.com/contributio-ns Thank you for your interest in changing...

2008-01-20 12:01:00 The Knutsford Guardian covers last Sunday's opening for visitors of Elizabeth Gaskell's house:THE HOUSE where Elizabeth Gaskell wrote most of her novels was opened to the public after the success of the BBC's adaptation of Cranford.Plymouth Grove in Manchester is normally closed during winter. But the group, which raises money to preserve the home, was inundated with inquiries from viewers who wanted to tour the property. So the house was opened on a Sunday for an exhibition of Victorian costumes and a slide-show about Knutsford.Gaskell Society founder and Knutsford historian Joan Leach operated the projector and helped to organise the fund-raising event."We've been very pleased at the interest," she said."There was a waiting list so we'll probably have to do it again in a few weeks' time." (...)The Manchester Historic Buildings Trust is raising £2.3million for restoration work at the property, which opens once a month in summer. (Adam Morson)And as in a previous news item, Eli...

Star Power Can?t Save ?Mad Money? From ?Thelma & Louise? Writer Callie Khou
2008-01-18 21:17:00 CHICAGO ? Whenever there?s stunt-movie casting with divergent generations of Hollywood ?stars,? there?s bound to be trouble at the multiplex. This time, the ?old to young? range of Diane ?Annie Hall? Keaton, Queen Latifah and the increasingly annoying Katie Holmes attempt a stab at the classic heist movie in ?Mad Money?. Keaton portrays Bridget Cardigan: an upper-middle class matron whose husband (Ted Danson) has been laid off for a year and has given up trying to find another gig. Overwhelmed by debt and bills, Keaton goes back out into the work force. In an ?it only can happen in the movies? turn of events, the best job she can find is as a janitor at the Federal Reserve bank (I guess all the administration jobs at the real estate offices were full). As she gets into her new career ? strangely doing the cleaning work during the day shift ? she notices there are some flaws in the airtight security involving the shredding of old currency. Thelma - Thelma Canta Nelson Cavaquinho (1966)
2007-02-26 06:13:01 Hello, good night! Technology is a blessing and sometimes disappointing when there is something broken and cannot be fixed. Loronix has a hosting service that supports some visible, such like the videos and invisible not visible and important features. As you already know, this hosting service has been down since this morning and some essential data might be definitively lost. Sorry for making these "internal" issues public, it is just a small crying with my friends at Loronix, I'm not bored, on bad humor, just disappointed.Anyway, let's get back to the music with another release sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues that is listed on must wanted lists of several friends. This is Thelma - Thelma Canta Nelson Cavaquinho (1966), for CBS, featuring songs of one of the most underrated artists of the music from Brazil, the legendary Nelson Cavaquinho. In spite of Thelma main performance at this album, Nelson Cavaquinho compositions make the real difference. I suggest that everybody gives a try...

Thelma - Thelma (1965)
2006-12-17 16:07:01 Thelma Soares or just Thelma is a Brazilian singer that probably many Brazilians had never heard about. Thelma started his career in the early 60's sponsored by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes. Both meet Thelma attending her performance in Sao Paulo, at the nightclub Baiuca. This is Thelma - Thelma (1965), for CBS, Thelma debut LP, produced by Vinicius de Moraes and Marcos Valle. Vinicius de Moraes wrote the linear notes of this album with enthusiastic words about Thelma and this record, plenty of Baden Powell, Vinicius de Moraes and Marcos Valle compositions. Thelma had a fast start with support from renowned people, but what happened with her since then? She released another LP in the following hear and other two spare releases in the 80s.Make a try to this great singer, gently provided by Caetano Rodrigues to Loronixers, give also your feedback since there is more to come. Tracks include:01 - Yemanjá (Tuca / Luis Roberto)02 - Samba do Carioca (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes...
