Actually, the cinema near me is quite small and I've already seen all the films there. So the closest one with no-dubbing movies is one hour distance from my house, if you take the metro. The plot follows Plainview from his humble beginnings as a miner, showing his grit and determination through some fairly large hardships, to his success as a millionaire oilman and then to his fall, living among his personal demons in a beautiful house but away from the fields he knew so well. It's a slice of life, certainly, but like a cheese pizza, there's very little spice or differentiation of taste. And yet, I will wager I'm going to be in the minority of critics here. ...

Review: There Will Be Blood - An Instant Classic
2008-01-08 06:46:00 Going into this film I had no idea what to expect. Even in the weeks leading up to watching There Will Be Blood, people would ask me what it was about. I would answer, "It's about an oil driller in Texas around the turn-of-the-century." Not much of a description but I didn't have much to tell them and frankly I didn't know much beyond that. The trailer doesn't tell much of the story, although it paints a clear picture of Daniel Day-Lewis playing a complex, interesting character. Besides hearing all of the hype and wanting to see Daniel Day-Lewis, I didn't think it looked like a very entertaining story. I'll admit, after seeing this 158-minute film during a midnight showing, that it was extremely interesting and I was beyond impressed.

Once the story emerged from the usual layers of lies and cover-up, the atrocity flared briefly on the public stage and eight of the Marines and their officers were charged "with murder or failing to investigate an apparent war crime," as the Post reports. But public attention moved swiftly on, and over the past few months, the Pentagon's "military justice" system has quietly reduced or dropped charges against most of the men.
