Ground Control Feature On They Might Be Giants
2007-11-21 22:13:00
"We're in a very singular place in the culture I think," says Flansburgh while on tour for They Might Be Giants' latest album, The Else. "I think that describing our audience as a cult is kind of inaccurate though. I feel like we exist in the world as a mainstream act, but what we're doing has nothing to do with Top 40 radio or anything even vaguely resembling the ultra hot cutting edge of music. If you tried to pitch a story to Access Hollywood on They Might Be Giants, they would laugh you out of the room, but the truth of the matter is that what we do is understood; the general public gets it. You would think by the way we are described in the music press, that we are this 80-foot cyclops of unknowable music?like we are the strangest of the strange and people just knock themselves out saying what a bunch or weirdos we are?but I think on some level we've achieved some very mainstream acceptance for what we do. We do big shows for thousands of people in big cities and they're o...

Das ist doch… Moment, ich komme gleich drauf… Na klar, das ist ‘Istanbul’ von They might be giants! Wie, das ist nicht von They might be giants? Das ist aus dem Jahre 1953? Dieser herrlich-bekloppte Text ? eine Coverversion? Und wer sind dann diese The Four Lads? Und warum habe ich nie zuvor etwas von ...

They Might Be Giants - The Else
2007-06-27 18:51:00
With bizarre sense of humor, borrowing from the New York post-punk underground, maybe They Might Be Giants (a.k.a. John Linnell and John Flansburgh) don't invent something new in music, but, God knows that you once listen to their whole albums you won't forget their sweet music. On The Else, they're same !Giants! who play their nice music, and they're always one of the sweetest bands that i've ever listened. This record offers something very friendly like Ween, Weezer, Robyn Hitchcock or any name makes you confused with their melodies and lyrics. Yes!, friendly music reminds you that life is not easy and it's still good to live. Love The Else!Girl! Why not take out the trash? And once you get him out, tell him not to come back again! They Might Be Giants - Take Out the Trash (nice song, isn't it?;)Also Listen:Ween - Friends EPWeezer - The Blue Album
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS - "The Else"
2007-05-22 21:03:00
"I'm Impressed" "Bee the Bird of the Moth" "Withered Hope"

They Might Be Giants 'The Else' Review
2007-05-04 23:58:00
They Might Be Giants just kicked off their tour for their new album The Else.  The album will be released in a few weeks to itunes, and then to stores in June.  Their first stop was at The Stone Church in New Hampshire just last night.  It was a great show.  The club only fit a few hundred and they easily sold it out for two shows.  They played a good mix of new and old songs.  We got a good taste of their new album.  Apparently there will also be a bonus CD.  My favorite new song is actually a track on the bonus CD.  We live in a Dump, or something like that.  It was catchy and fun. Their performance style is relaxed and casual.  They chatted with the crowd, and with the light crew.  They love their crew it turns out!  Oh, and they are doing some sort of contest.  Beards vs No Beards.  So far it is a tie at 1-1.  Not sure if only the lighting guys count.  At any rate, I recommend the CD and the sho...
They Might Be Giants - Dial A Song
2007-04-12 02:31:00
A group of us are going to see They Might Be Giants in a few weeks at The Stone Church.  I am a fan of TMBG and am really looking forward to it.  For my Birthday last Friday Jen bought me a CD with 20+ of their songs.  It is titled Dial a Song.  I am embarased to say I had no idea what the reference was for.  After reading up a bit I am just floored about what they did with an answering machine in the 80's. It seems that shortly after they started as a band bad luck had befallen them.  They were unable to play out much and had wanted an outlet for their creative ideas.  The answering machine had just come into popularity and so they thought it would be a great (genius!) idea to record snippets of their song ideas on it, and just let it play for those that called in.  They published the phone number in ads for local Brooklen/NYC papers and became near instant celebraties.  The number is (718) 387-6962 and is still going today.  They ...
They Might Be Giants Prep New Kids DVD
2007-04-10 00:42:00
After breaking through to a new audience with the 2002 kids album "No!" and the 2005 DVD "Here Come the ABCs," They Might Be Giants are eyeing an August release for a sequel to the latter Disney project, "Here Come the 123s." The DVD will boast an hour of original music plus videos specially commissioned by the duo."Not to sound like it is completely derivative, but it is inspired by 'Sesame Street,'" group member John Flansburgh tells Billboard.com. "The attitude we took to the 'ABCs' project is the same we took with this one, which is about numbers -- kids are going to learn this stuff anyway. But it's this vehicle for entertaining kids, which is all we really know how to do. We don't have educator skills so much. But the last one was a big success. It was a very satisfying experience hearing back from parents."In the fall, TMBG will continue is practice of playing family shows in the daytime and more rock-oriented gigs at night in support of their upcoming album, "The Else,...
