2008-01-07 17:33:00 We did not go out yesterday, so Ian was playing by himself, first he decided to play with his Little Tikes Grand Coupe. Instead of going in through the door and then pushing the car, he decided that the car should be his "climbing activity" car. He climbed in through the door to the seat then out through the front "windscreen". Haha! This goes one for many times, non-stop for about 20 minutes. Then he decided to sit on his Thomas the Tank Engine scooter and push it instead of standing up. So, he pushes it to and fro watching TV. After a while, he goes back to his car and does the same thing over and over again. This cycle goes on and on until dinner time. I have a headache watching him...hahaha..

I have always been such an advocate for wooden toys, that it breaks my heart to see lead in their paint.Wooden toy recalls:Additional Thomas and Friends (200,ooo) due to lead paint-All-Black Cargo Car, Toad vehicle with brake lever, Olive Green Sodor Cargo Box, Green Maple Tree Top and Green Signal Base AccessoriesGuidecraft Children's Puppet Theaters due to lead paint. I usually love Guidecraft toys and have similar puppet theater in my preschool room. I have always been amazed at how this simple wooden toy sustains their attention. It is true that many children and families succumb to the mass merchandising for Thomas toys, clothes, etc.; however, the wooden railway system is a natural toy that is common to many households in America. In my opinion, that is a good thing. Of course, there are many plastic Thomas toys, but I find the wooden railway system of good quality and designed for open-ended play. It is neat to watch a child evolve from depending on adults to build the tracks to creating their own unique track systems, which is very good for learning about spatial relationships. The train play can be open-ended with children making up their own storylines; however, I do know children that rely on storylines from the tv program for their train play. Thomas the Tank Engine wooden toys are expensive, but they do...
