I Thrash, Therefore I Am was volume 18 in the series, and arguably the most famous and best. To my knowledge, this isn't the collection in it's entirety, but just the best that could fit onto on LP, so it will suffice. I wish every one of the tapes would be remastered and reissued in this format, but they would probably be waaaay too expensive for anyone to actually put together. Mob 47 provide a perfect introductions to this record for old and new hardcore fans alike. They belt out 9 tracks of top-notch Swedish hardcore that set the standad for all to follow. Product Assar offer up two tracks of lo-fi, relentless punk rock. All pretty straight forward and doesn't break any barriers. Sounds like standard 80s style thrashcore. Common Enemy-Groovy 7" (Sick of Talk) review
2008-02-03 21:00:00 Common Enemy have been around for a few years now, and I guess are getting pretty big. This isn't a surprise since they've got a pretty smart (or lucky?) business plan, that includes signing on to do lots of split 7"s on several different labels. While they certainly the best thrash style band out right now, they're certainly good enough to warrant being so popular. This record is over so fast you don't really have time to discount the negatives about it. It's fast as hell East Coast style hardcore (think early Dischord with a better since of humor) that's intense and tight as hell. Bones Brigade are a good comparison (who also went with the whole Evil Dead theme at times), but not nearly as metal. As stated before, the four songs on this record are all about the Evil Dead trilogy, which has sort of been done to death, but this isn't exactly the sort of record you buy hoping it will open you up to new musical landscapes. I went into the admin area of my posts and found that it had somehow been moved to the "drafts" section. I re-ripped the files and uploaded them again (the first time I did it, I didn't split up the tracks). This is the first Bones Brigade record with the original singer, who went on to be in Cut the Shit, who are at least as good as Bones Brigade, it's hard to call. Hearing this for the first time was like having my face ripped off. It's such insanely fast Suicidal Tendencies style hardcore. The guitar work is insane. This accomplishment of this 7" is totally dwarfed by the LP they put out called I Hate Myself When I'm Not Skateboarding (which will probably be posted at a later date, pending in-print-ness), but this still a great document of a great band.
