British Open: John Daly has throwback 1st round wearing throw-up outfit
2010-07-16 05:07:00 John Daly, who won the 1995 British Open at St. Andrews, had a throwback opening round of 66 while sporting a throw-up outfit. Good thing for John that his solid score offset his full-blown pile of clash. If he hadn't shot well, he'd have walked off the course as just an embarrassingly bad joke.
Open the Vault: Throwback Chicago Rap Music Unleashed
2010-05-11 13:39:00 I don't know about you, but I often wax nostalgic about the mid-90s to early-2000s...You know the time when Common was known as Com Sense and you could hear Do or Die almost every day on the radio? Of course, we've got lots of Chicago stars in the constellation. Too many to name, but Lupe, Kanye, Common, Rhymefest and Twista are a few.But if you miss some of the local lyricists and singers you don't hear as often today, I advise you to open the vault. No, not the vault at your local bank. (Who are you, The Joker in "Dark Knight?") The vault I'm talking about contains Naki the Beatman's previously unreleased music dating from 1999 to 2009. I...
Mayweather vs. Mosley - A Throwback to the Rich History of American Fights
2010-04-22 17:58:00 watch mayweather Vs mosley onlinewatch mayweather vs mosleyLOS ANGELES (April 21)...Check your almanac: On the night of September 16, 1981, time stopped for one hour while welterweight champions Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns traded punches in Las Vegas. That's how big a fight it was. On May 1, welterweights Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Sugar Shane Mosley will clash in the biggest bout of 2010. The mega-matchup of multi-division champions, pound-for-pound kings and future Hall of Famers summons memories not only of Leonard-Hearns, but also of the rich history of American welterweights. In recent years, boxing's headlines have been made largely by foreign-born fighters like Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquiao, Joe Calzaghe and Juan Manuel Marquez. At welterweight or otherwise, there have been precious-few all-American matchups. In that sense, Mayweather-Mosley is a throwback fight. In the boxing-rich 1980s, the majority of super-fights were contested betw...
Throwback Thursday: Tim Weigel's "Superfan Slim Down"
2010-04-15 07:29:00 Hat tip to LJizza on this one. From FuzzyMemoriesTV.com, we give you one of the great Tim Weigel sportscasts. Only in Chicago would news about a Superfan losing weight come before Muhammad Ali talking about his next fight. Also have to love how the 1980 Eyewitness News Team assembles at the end of the broadcast.I wonder if Joel Daly had one of those Ron Burgundy horns......
Throwback Hottie: Sweet Lou Piniella
2010-01-25 21:03:00 So Saturday I'm flipping through the channels, looking for something sportsy to watch, when I happened upon ESPN Classic showing a 1983 game between the Royals and the Yankees, otherwise know as "The George Brett Pine Tar Game." While I'm always up for a good freak out from George Brett, what intrigued me far more about the game was the fact that the Cubs' very own Lou Piniell was playing. You wouldn't know it now, but Lou used to be seriously dishy back in his younger days. Check him out:...

‘80s-throwback Takes on Surfwear, It's the New Insight Tees
2009-01-24 00:38:00 New graphic tees of collaboration between Australian surf, brand Insight (started by Something’s Natalie Wood and Ksubi’s George Gorrow) and German art-rock favorites Chicks on Speed was born -- inspired by we call an ‘80s-throwback takes on surfwear. Sensing humor in fashion while not getting out-fashioned is definitely one of the tips. These are some tees that go beyond graphic prints put on front show, but combining all of those with chic cut and sew. Pretty sexy, to sum them up -- and hey, I don't mind they're made in China.Images via tobi ( you can buy online here too!). Alternative shops on Karmaloop and Azalea Boutique

Throwback Thursday: Shaka Zulu
2008-11-13 02:40:00 So Im a big fan of Black Cult Classics (A cult film is a filmthat has acquired a highly devoted but relatively small group of fans). So to change things up from my usual hot-headed ranting, I give you Throwback Thursdays; reviews of some classics you might have never heard of or dont remember that are worth watching. I will also include video clips if I can dig some up or upload them. If you digg them, head over to Amazon by following my links and piick them up for the low low. So without further ado, this Thursday's selecti0on is the TV series Shaka Zulu, not to be confused with Zulu from 1964 or the remake Shaka Zulu: The Citadel (2001). This 4 part series was produced and aired on regular T.V. in 1986 and I can remember watching every single episode as a little boy. It tells the story of the rise of Shaka, a warrior prophesied to lead and unite the Zulu nation. Shaka Zulu was born in 1787 as the illegitimate son of Senzangakona, chief of the Zulu clan at that time. As a kid, hes...

Throwback Thursday #27
2008-05-22 15:03:00 I know I'm way behind in posting my Throwback Thursday posts. Again, no excuse other than it's been crazy busy around here. Haven't we all heard that one before? ;) Though I've been really bad terrible horrible at keeping up with my TT posts, I'm glad that the Pinks & Blues Girls came up with this fun idea of taking some time to walk down memory lane. When I do actually get around to posting, I always enjoy reminiscing. This set of photos is from my not so distant past. The photos were taken on June 1, 2001. I was twenty-five years old, living in Toronto, enjoying my life as an ESL teacher at a really good ESL school and just loving my time with my friends. Here I am with some of the other teachers I worked with. Oh, we weren't always allowed to wear casual clothes! Only on Fridays! Plus, we were taking our students to Canada's Wonderland via bus and subway that day. My beautiful friend, Gavie's Gal is posing in the top photo with me. Gosh! Look how young we were in...

Throwback Thursday - May 1992
2008-05-15 14:44:00 First thing Randy told me after we had left my parents house: “your hair, wow, it’s curly.” He hated my hair. I should have known…he fears change. I remember having a good time at prom (not great as my beloved does not dance and he has no rhythm whatsoever) We stayed out way to late and had quite an adventure the next morning. Other than that memories of prom were pretty good. Besides the fact that someone’s date who did not go to our school wore the SAME dress as I did. Yes. I remembered. Randy reminded me again, how much he must have loved me to wear a pink bow tie in front of our entire class. Yes I know my fingers are freakishly long….thank god I have a wedding ring now to distract folks from staring at them.

2008-05-08 16:35:00 I have been a slacker and haven’t participated in TT for a few weeks, so I hurriedly scanned this pic to share today - so therefore, it’s not the best pic, but I just love it. Throwback Thursday #26
2008-05-01 20:08:00 It's been a while quite some time a long time AGES since I last posted a Throwback Thursday post. I'm really glad the girls at Pinks and Blues came up with the Throwback idea. It's always fun to rifle through old photos and relive fond memories. This particular Throwback Thursday brings us back to the Summer of 2001. My girlfriends (roommates at the time) and I lived in Toronto and decided to go to Montreal for Canada Day. There's nothing more fun than a road trip with your girlfriends! When I think about us driving to Montreal for Canada Day, it makes me laugh. Going to Quebec for Canada Day??My two lovely girlfriends (Gavie's Gal and Nathanial's Mommy) and I had a blast. We went to le festival de Jazz, strolled through le Vieux Port and Vieux Montreal, went to the Casino de Montreal, and revisited some of my old college and university hang outs.We got to see Nelly Furtado perform live for the Canada Day festivities. I remember people in the crowd kept booing Nelly off stage. ...

Throwback signs new execs, still has nothing to show for it - SendMeRSS
2008-03-07 18:33:00 Throwback signs new execs, still has nothing to show for itFiled under: Business Canadian publisher Throwback Entertainment has been eerily silent since it soaked up the rights to 158 video game properties from off the corpse of the then newly eviscerated Acclaim in mid-2006, including Extreme-G Racing, Vexx, and Re-Volt, not to mention the terribly poor Rise of the Robots. This morning the company made a new announcement, this time bringing on board animation production vets Ken Duer and Eric Radomski, who join the publisher from Warner Bros. where they worked on such properties as Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters, Animaniacs, and Batman: The Animated Series. Duer will serve as Throwback's new president of media while Radomski steps into the role of chief creative officer. Both are the latest names to join the company, following VIC and Commodore 64 designer Yash Terakura, former Capcom boss George Nakayama, and David Siller of Crash Bandicoot and Maximo fame. Of course, there's a big di...

Throwback Thursday #25
2008-02-21 06:41:00 I've been feeling quite uninspired lately. I sometimes go through phases when I just don't feel in the mood to blog. Hopefully soon I'll come up with something newsworthy or even witty to write. For now, at least I still have Throwback Thursdays (thanks to the Throwback originators at Pinks & Blues)! In this first photo, I was three months old. I had already relocated three times! I was born in Toronto, and Dad decided to move us to Trinidad and Tobago. We didn't last too long since Mom got homesick for her family. We then moved to Montreal, where I spent twenty three years of my life. Though I moved a lot after that, Montreal has always been 'home' for me.I just love this photo of Dad and me. Check out the funky glasses! The 1970's = wacky fashion. When I was a teenager in the 1980's-1990's, I remember rifling through Mom's old clothes. She had platform shoes, hot pants, bell bottoms, tight jeans, jean jackets with peace signs and 'flower power' all over them and the...
