Chicago Cubs Headlines for Thursday
2009-11-05 15:44:00 Hooray! I slept in. That means we get to play headlines-as-we-go. That also means if I don't find anything, this is the headline.Oh, goodie. I found something. Ted talks about his surgery, and answers Doc Blume's question:"I initially wanted to try to avoid it, go into the off-season without having to do anything," Lilly said Wednesday by teleconference. "I figured it would get better. It did not, even after all the rest. I just didn't want to go into the season kind of doing what I was doing at the end of the year where I was missing starts."(snip)"If I would have known I'd be in this situation a month earlier and it wouldn't have gotten better, then I would...

2009-10-22 12:38:00 A big LOHO welcome to Rudy JaramilloWhatever Jim Hendry wants, Jim Hendry gets. And my little Jimmy wants Rudy Jaramillo. Yesterday, the Cubs announced their newest addition, the greatest hitting coach EVER:"We're thrilled to have him," Hendry said at a Wrigley Field news conference. "We feel like we're the beneficiary of good timing. I think Rudy feels the same way. "When you get an opportunity to put somebody in place that is so well respected and so universally considered at the top of his profession, you certainly jump at the chance that, and that's what we did."And dearest Rudy sure knows how to sweet talk a fanbase:"I used to be with the Astros from '90-93, and obviously we came here...
Jason Shaver: Wolves to announce new coach by Thursday
2009-10-21 05:52:00 We believe, based on all the facts we have, that Don Lever will be the next coach of the Chicago Wolves. Jason Shaver, the announcer for the Chicago Wolves told the Wolfpack Booster Club this evening that the announcement will be made Wednesday or Thursday. Here are the three clues dropped by Shaver at the Booster Club meeting tonight:It is a coach with an impressive recordJason had seen him, but not frequentlyIt is not Mike KeenanJason has spent the past several seasons calling games in the American Hockey League for the Houston Aeros and the Chicago Wolves. Both those teams play in the West Division of the AHL. Based on tip two, we're going to assume the coach is an AHL...

Minnesota Twins version of Chicago Cubs Headlines for Thursday
2009-10-08 11:58:00 Did anyone think (other than our endless fountains of positivity gravedigger and doc blume) that the Twins had a shot Wednesday night? They played what may have been the greatest baseball game in years on Tuesday night, flew overnight to New York and had to deal with the smell of the city. I don't think our fearless Twins would use that as an excuse, but they also won't have any problems winning three out of four to win the series. Another Carl (Pavano) enforces my beliefs:"I didn't play [Tuesday], and I'm beat," Twins pitcher Carl Pavano said. "I'm not making excuses for these guys, but they battled today. This day off's definitely going to recharge us. Everyone knows the momentum we...

I of course won't be doing this because I'll be at the 900 Shops on Michigan Ave. doing Blogapalooza. But I went last year and that Jack's Creation is friggin' delicious. I hate to even ask who this Jack is or was because Made a Wish is for terminally ill kids and I really cannot even think about stuff like that while I am a nursing mom. The hormones make it pretty much impossible. But what was I saying? Ah, yes. If you're not at Blogapalooza tomorrow evening, then at least get some free ice cream. Or...

Stream Team: A Full Thursday
2009-09-24 01:25:00 by R.J. WhiteFiled under: MLB Waiver WireLooking to cycle spot-starters each day? Check out the Stream Team, where we tab pitchers that are likely to help you in your quest for fantasy gold. Yesterday we spot-started Hiroki Kuroda again, and he was brilliant yet again. He threw six innings while giving up two runs, but both were unearned. He also threw in six strikeouts on his way to an easy win for the Dodgers. His six innings with no earned runs drops our September ERA to 3.26, using pitchers that are available in a majority of your leagues. I hope you're winning your championship game, and now I'll do my best to give you a bigger lead.Stream Team: A Full Thursday originally appeared on Fantasy Baseball Fanhouse on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 18:25:00 EST . Fantasy Fill-Ins: Thursday
2009-09-23 22:42:00 by Knox BardeenFiled under: MLB Waiver WireFor a number of major league teams Mondays and Thursdays are travel days. Every Wednesday and Sunday, Fantasy Fill-Ins finds guys who should be widely available on the waiver wire and can step in for the day, helping you gain ground or hold off the pack. There are nine games scheduled for Thursday. That means we may need to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find some solid fill-ins. Here are five of the best options.Jack Cust, Athletics - Cust hasn't been the model of consistent hitting this season and as of late he's been less then stellar batting .221 over the last month. But, he has a pretty good track record against Scott Feldman (five hits and two home runs in 15 at-bats) so could fill-in nicely on Thursday. Cust is only owned in 16% of fantasy leagues.Fantasy Fill-Ins: Thursday originally appeared on Fantasy Baseball Fanhouse on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 15:42:00 EST . Please see our terms for use of feeds. Chicago Cubs Headlines for Thursday
2009-09-17 11:22:00 The Cubs are back to 6.5 out in the Wild Card race after last night's 9-5 loss to the Brewers. Yet the question lingers: when do I consider the Cubs in or out of the race? I know that, with my head, I should consider them out. I think you know how the rest goes. But now I'm not sure what to think, because even Lou sounds really confused about the situation:"You can see how many things have gone wrong for us here this year, and you can see that we're still in a race," Piniella said. "It goes to tell you with some improvement that you can get right back on top quickly. "Just staying healthy, alone, would help...

Chicago Cubs Headlines for Thursday
2009-08-27 14:59:00 One day after answering no to the question, "Are the Cubs still in it?", they decided they wanted to change their answer and pretend like they are. I'm going to need another 14 in a row to start believing even after last night's 9-4 win over the Nationals. "I think everybody in the clubhouse, we still believe we're in it," Harden said. "Nobody's down. We don't believe we're out of it. You've got to go with that mindset. We've got to win some games. You can't get too ahead of yourself and start thinking we've got to win however many in a row. "Just plan on winning every series, I think we'd be in pretty good position at the...

Prison: the new public housing? Thursday news round up
2009-08-13 16:00:00 Photo by Tim Pearce The Poverty in America blog at change.org riffs off of Barbara Ehrenreich's NYT op-ed. There's 2.3 million Americans living in public housing. There's 2.3 million Americans living behind bars. We know that many people who end up in prison come from rough neighborhoods. And there's no shortage of people who like to blame crime on public housing residents. So is it much of a leap to say prison is a form of public housing? Most of the young people I meet have a friend or relative in prison and many expect to spend at least a night or two there themselves. Maybe the real question is: who is better off?Public housing banning policy tears families apart -...

2009-06-11 15:27:00 Yesterday was Kids Eat Free Day at California Tortilla where you received a free kid's meal for each adult entree purchased. What a great deal as kid's meals are $4 or $5. So my friend visited a friendly neighborhood CalTort and ordered a Honey Lime burrito and a "Make Your Own Platter" off of the kids menu consisting of grilled chicken strips with shredded cheese and two 6" tortilla shells plus chips and queso, a brownie and a drink. When asked if I (I mean, my friend) had the child with him, the reply was that, no, he was at home. The employee then stated that the child must be present for this deal. This bit of information was not included on the California Tortilla website or the CalTort e-mail. However, I (sorry, my friend) did not want to argue since there was not a child at home, only a kitten. The nerve of my friend for even trying to get a free kid's meal even though there was no child!Make sure to visit LiLu for more of your TMI Thursday needs. Plus, you can click here...
