Forgotten Tidbits From The Vigil
2008-03-26 11:03:00 One of my favourite aspects of the Easter Vigil involved the fire. Much to my horror, Happy Priest actually lit the Holy Hitachi (my name for it) in the church, just below the choir loft. This had the effect of sending up sparks and massive amounts of smoke into the choir loft. In the darkened church, the congregation could just barely make out the image of the choristers frantically fanning the

Tidbits from the ever-changing ICT world
2008-03-17 04:15:00 We all know that the research and development people in the information and communications technologies industry never go to sleep. That is why I receive a lot of press releases, announcements, invitations to product launches, etc. It's getting more and more difficult to find the time to sit in front of my computer and write about them* So, I think this week I'll give you a roundup of what's out there and what's coming.Notebooks on a dietNotebook computers are becoming lighter and thinner; makers seem to be vying against one another in a race to reduce the weight of their products by slimming down the bodies.Earlier this year, Steve Jobs introduced MacBook Air, a notebook that is less than two centimeters thick. It claims to be the world's thinnest notebook (for now) and it fits into an office envelop. Like other Mac computers, style is as strong as the technology. But, then, those who cannot seem to leave Windows and migrate to Mac, the good news came a bit later. Lenovo return...

Survivor tidbits
2008-02-29 14:57:00 1. The funniest thing I have seen on Survivor in a while was Ozzy hiding the immunity idol under his straw hat as he talked to Kathy. The hat was way up high on his head and it appeared to have a flowered scarf on it and it was way funnier looking than I can describe here. Trust me.2. Tracy is one smart cookie. She knew exactly what to say to get send Joel into a panic and vote out Mike. I'm bummed that they're mixing up the tribes next week (as per the previews) because I would have like to see how she would have done next week with her original tribe. This tribe mix-up is going to screw with an interesting dynamic. Poo.3. I wonder if anyone will be fooled by Ozzy's "immunity idol". What would you think if you found that stick? I think I would think that someone already found the real idol. If I was Ozzy I would have gotten rid of the cloth the idol was wrapped in and moved that rock to another spot. That's just me though. I don't want to second guess Ozzy though be...

Tidbits Of Wisdom For The First Time Buyer
2008-02-11 04:17:00 Terrific Tips for Minnesota First Time Home Buyers and first time buyers everywhere Are you currently thinking about buying your first house? Real estate is a fantastic investment. Don't let the media hype fool you: low interest rates combined with reduced home prices make this an excellent economic environment for first-time home buyers. Here are a few tips to help you along the way. The first and most important thing to remember is to buy only as much house as you can afford. Just because a lot of young people in your area are buying gigantic homes with acres of property and four car garages doesn't necessarily mean they could afford their mortgages. All you have to do is look at the foreclosures situation to see examples of people who purchased more than they should have. Adjustable rate mortgages, or ARMs, have been exceedingly popular in the last ten years. When the housing market was on fire a few years ago, banks were giving out loans...

Friday Tidbits
2008-02-08 17:50:00 There are lots of little bits of information so thought I'd do a blog post today that just hits a few different topics. As part of the stimulus package that both the House & Senate have now passed the loan limits for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been increased. This has the potential of helping stabilize the housing market since those with an ARM on a house worth more than $417,000 may now be able to refinance more easily. That may mean fewer forclosures which may mean less downward price pressure. See this CNBC article for more information. The Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) has been a great source of mortgages for first time home buyers in Virginia. Unfortunately, they're not immune to what's been going on in the credit markets. They've suspended some of their programs and they will now only loan up to 97% of the value of the home. This will definitely hurt first time home buyers in Virginia and the sellers who hope to ... |
