Bob Barr In Time  Wayne Allyn Root, left, Mike Gravel, moderator David Weigel, Bob Barr and Vern McKinley engage in a Libertarian Party debate in Washington, D.C., May 20, 2008. Jay Mallin / Bloomberg News / Landov   With his belly hiding his belt, with his red suspenders and white beard, Glen Parshall is a dead ringer for Santa Claus, except for the snub-nosed pistol he keeps tucked in his back pocket. Parshall spends his days behind the gun cage of Bargain Pawn, in a roughneck North Las Vegas neighborhood littered with homeless encampments, Catholic charities and pawnshops. It's no Bellagio. But he is a gentle man who treats his customers with respect, whether hoodlum or homeowner. He knows everything there is to know about weapons and is a stickler for the byzantine rules of gun ownership--the waiting periods, the background checks, the ATF callbacks and information requests. But just because he obeys the rules doesn't mean he likes them. Parshall is dissatis...

Iowa Democratic Race: Too Close to Call
2007-12-29 07:17:00
After months of polling potential January 3rd caucus goers, we are no where closer to knowing which Democrat will win in Iowa. The latest Research 2000 poll shows John Edwards and Barack Obama are tied at 29 percent and Hillary Clinton is just behind with 28 percent of potential voters. Three candidates and only 1 percent separates the lead between them.Real Clear Politics took an average of the polls for Iowa and found that Hillary Clinton leads John Edwards by only 2 percentage points. Barack Obama was in third place just .3 percent behind Edwards. One thing is consistent and clear in Iowa, no one knows who will win. The experts don?t know, the political scientists have no idea, and the media doesn?t have a clue. 2004 Howard Dean was supposed to win it all. The media and all the experts picked him to come out on top in Iowa. Dean finished third. Iowa voters usually wait until the last minute to decide who to vote for and turnout is lackluster. Iowa is also a state known fo...

Time Magazine Still Licks The Boots of Dictators
2007-12-24 17:32:00
Time magazine is once again showing itself to be the perpetual sycophant of dictators and thugs worldwide. Granted, being chosen as Time’s Man of The Year is not a carte blanche endorsement of ones beneficent nature. Nevertheless, Time waxes poetic in their perennial boot licking of leftist dictators such as Vladimir Putin. It is true that Russia has been in turmoil adjusting to a post Soviet world but nevertheless Putin has reversed most of what we would normally consider positive trends in Russian society, politics and their economy. There is a Russian blog I read regularly and the sense of oppression by Putin is a palpable presence there. Everyone there knows the elections are a sham. Putin has hand picked his “successor” and will still be the power not so behind the scenes. I will give him credit that he was not as stupid and arrogant as Hugo Chavez in trying to rewrite the countries constitution to allow him to be president forever. But nevertheless he is still going to be t...
