Time Warner & Channel 4
2008-10-02 23:44:00

It runs on thousands of servers that constantly replicate ...
Time Warner keeps a promise: Metering begins in Beaumont
2008-06-03 16:43:00
We’re always the first to report when the cable guy actually keeps a promise, just as we criticize them when he behaves badly. This post is a first, as I am reporting for both reasons. The promised metering in Beaumont begins Thursday. On Thursday, new Time Warner Cable Internet subscribers in Beaumont, Texas, will have monthly allowances for the amount of data they upload and download. Those who go over will be charged $1 per gigabyte, a Time Warner Cable executive told the Associated Press. Metered billing is an attempt to deal fairly with Internet usage, which is very uneven among Time Warner Cable’s subscribers, said Kevin Leddy, Time Warner Cable’s executive vice president of advanced technology. Just 5 percent of the company’s subscribers take up half of the capacity on local cable lines, Leddy said. Other cable Internet service providers report a similar distribution. “We think it’s the fairest way to finance the needed investment in the in...
WSJ interviews Time Warner Cable’s CEO
2008-06-02 21:13:00
The Wall Street Journal’s Vishesh Kumar only tosses a few softballs at Time Warner Cable’s new CEO in this interview, but it does give us a feel for the managerial mindset of the newly independent company. His soon-to-be-independent Time Warner Cable will be freer to pursue broadband and telephone services. But there are challenges: in the spinoff, the company will take on an additional $10.9 billion of debt to pay a massive, one-time dividend, 84% of which will go to Time Warner. (Wall Street Journal) He continues to be outspoken on premium content going free for ad supported TVoIP delivery. We hope for the sake of his shareholders he works a bit harder on enabling TVoIP with a fat pipe than to reamin focused on the losing battle of trying to control content delivery.
Back To The Future

Time Warner and GE goin' to The Chapel of Love? Yeah, yeah, yea-yeah-yeah. Newsweek: A goal for GE would be to avoid the huge tax bill it would incur in selling NBC Universal outright to Time Warner in a transaction valued in the tens of billions of dollars, say the sources familiar with the situation. One model for such a transaction might be the deal GE struck in 2003 to bulk up NBC by combining it with Universal, then owned by Vivendi. That combination left the French company with a hefty, though minority, 20 percent stake in NBC Universal. Under a similar scenario, Time Warner and GE could combine most, if not all, of their entertainment operations into a newly formed separate company, in which Time Warner would be the majority owner. The bet is investors would better recognize the value of a pure entertainment entity with big media brands, propelling the stocks of parent companies Time Warner and GE. And if that happens, the two Jeffs might just live out their corporate car...

Yeah. For those that do not have the same thing I do let me explain how easy it is to record something. You go to the show you want to record, press the select button on the remote, it asks you if you ...

WiMAX podría despegar definitivamente
2008-05-07 13:24:00

SPRINT, CLEARWIRE SET TO ANNOUNCE $12B WIMAX DEAL WITH COMCAST, TIME WARNER
2008-05-07 02:14:00
Filed under: Wireless We've definitely heard this one before, but the buzz around a proposed $12B WiMAX partnership between Sprint, Clearwire, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Intel, and Google is deafening right now, all based on a report in the Wall Street Journal. The plan is for Sprint to merge its XOHM wireless broadband division with Clearwire, and then take a total of $3.2B in investments from a host of other players: $1.05B from Comcast, $1B from Intel, $550M from Time Warner Cable, $500M from Google, and $100M from Bright House. The resulting company will be worth some $12B, and the WSJ says investors have given their final approval for the deal -- a rumor we've already heard with no meaningful result, so take it with a grain of salt. Or a whole salt lick, actually. We're not certain why Big Cable is so eager to dump money on Sprint after two previous ventures both folded recently, but if this goes down, it's a pretty big boost for WiMAX, which was looking pretty sickly late...

2008-04-07 15:07:00
I have always dreamt of having a cable tv because I feel that the programs on the usual tv channel are far from satisfying. But I also have difficulties in choosing the best tv cable provider. There are many advantages that you could gain installing tv cable. You can also gain access to high speed internet. What provider should you choose? The answer is simple, Time Warner Digital Cable. There are three main reasons why you should choose this provider. First, you can get more than 200 channels for your pleasure. I think that it is more than enough. The channels provided includes top rated channel such as ESPN, Discovery Channel, ShowTime, HBO, Cinemax and many more. You can have these channels very cheap, as low as $39.99 per month. You can get the clearest picture using Time Warner HDTV with an HD receiver. Second, you can get cheap high speed internet access. If you want you can choose packages which offered by the company to get these two products. If you choose Time Warner DSL in...

Time Warner looking to oust Microsoft for Yahoo?
2008-03-05 13:50:00
According to CNET, it looks like the Yahoo/Microsoft story is getting heated with Time Warner jumping in to possibly take a large minority stake in the search engine.Under a possible deal, Yahoo would acquire Time Warner's AOL in exchange for Time taking a large minority stake in the combined company, according to unidentified sources familiar with the matter. The companies could save $1 billion a year, the sources said. The companies held talks earlier but talks heated up again after Yahoo re-approached Time Warner about a proposal to take to its board. Meanwhile, Yahoo and News Corp. continue to talk as well, discussing a deal under which News Corp. would sell MySpace to Yahoo in exchange for a stake in the company, the report said. Yahoo has rejected the bid, saying it undervalues the company. The $31 a share price at the time the bid is now worth $28.62 because of a drop in Microsoft's share price.
