Increasing the Modem Timeout
2008-05-26 08:35:00 If your modem it is timing out during file transfers or loading Web Pages, you might try increasing the timeout period. To change the Time Out::1.Open RegEdit2.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrent-ControlSet Services Class Modem XXXX Settings Where XXXX is the number of your modem3. Come modificare il tempo di timeout del GRUB di Linux

Dopo aver imparato come modificare il GRUB di Linux in modo da selezionare il Sistema Operativo da avviare automaticamente dopo lo scadere del tempo, oggi modificheremo proprio il tempo di default.Per aprire il GRUB diamo il solito sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst (al posto di gedit inserite il vostro editor di testo preferito, come ad esempio il kate di Kubuntu), e cerchiamo, con la funzione di ricerca del nostro editor, la parola timeout.Trovata la stringa, possiamo notare come sia scritto a lato un numero (solitamente 10), che rappresenta il tempo di default. Modificando quel numero quindi, cambieremo il tempo che determinerà il tempo massimo, entro il quale sarà scelto il sistema di default.Io ad esempio ho impostato un tempo di 15 secondi, avendo così pochi ma utili secondi in più per attaccare il portatile alla corrente e selezionare il sistema.
