The Times-Picayune, one of the nation's oldest newspapers, will no longer offer print editions seven days a week and instead plans to offer three printed issues a week starting in the fall. The change means New Orleans would become the largest metro area in the nation without a daily newspaper in the digital age.

Recursive DNS, Round Trip Times, Delegations & DNS Performance
2012-05-03 16:02:00
Usually on the Dyn blog, you’ll hear us talking about the technology behind our authoritative DNS infrastructure, the benefits of IP anycast routing, the scale of our global infrastructure and more. Often ignored, but still a major part of the DNS system, is the recursive DNS infrastructure, traditionally deployed by ISPs to serve their customers. One way to think of the two pieces of the DNS is that the authoritative DNS (ADNS) is the Internet telephone book (a directory of DNS hostnames mapping to IP addresses) and the recursive DNS (RDNS) is like directory assistance, helping you look up an entry in the authoritative DNS. There are tons of recursive DNS servers all over the world. In fact, on April 1st, 2012, Dyn’s IP anycast network communicated with nearly 3.2MM unique recursive DNS servers around the world. Every ISP in the world runs them for their customers. Enterprises need to run them to support their internal networks and there are third-party DNS options such as Inte...
It?s Liquid ?

There is noting permanent, but change. – Heraclitus (535-475 BC) According to the sociologistZygmuntBauman, we now live in a ?Liquid Society? where reality keeps changing at a very fast pace and individuals need to adapt smartly to survive.By splicing together an unending series of short-term projects, the episodes do not add up to the kind of sequence to which concepts like ?career? and ?progress? could be meaningfully applied. Such fragmented lives require individuals to be flexible and adaptable ? to be constantly ready and willing to change tactics at short notice, to abandon commitments and loyalties without regret and to pursue opportunities according to their current availability. Social form and institutions no longer have enough time to solidify and cannot serve as frames of reference for human actions and long-term life plans, so individuals have to find other ways toorganize their lives. Therefore, the individual must act, plan actions and calculate the likely g...

2012-04-22 04:03:00
(Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, squelched an internal investigation into allegations of bribery at its Mexican subsidiary instead of broadening the probe, the New York Times reported on Saturday. Mobile Ads have recently caught the attention of many. Facebook too had begun to insert ads in its mobile centric app. Unlike advertising on desktop grade websites, mobile advertising is very tricky. This is because of the limited bandwidth & of course the comparatively tiny screen. Companies have to ensure that advertisements do load quickly, grab user’s attention & yet are non-intrusive in nature. India’s mobile scene is growing at a very rapid pace. A new breed of Social Professional start-up BranchOut has received a US$ 25 Million fund infusion from Mayfield and other investors. BranchOut is a professional network that operates as a Facebook application that lets users organize business connections, search for jobs, and view data about where their friends have previously worked. The funds will be utilized to improve infrastructure,  support growth  & focus on mobile initiatives with new native apps for iOS and other platforms. In all essence it will rival standalone professional networking site LinkedIn. Indians recently got a taste of desi professional networking thorough ApnaCircle. Though both of these sites are strictly professional, that might be the precise reason for growth of BranchOut. Since people would prefer Social Networking more, why not introduce professional features in it? U.S. geothermal resources are 10 times greater than coal.
2012-04-05 08:14:00
Check out this fascinating map out by Google: Imagine a renewable energy resource capable of producing more than 10 times the energy of the installed capacity of coal in the US. That?s the potential for Geothermal Energy in the United States, according to a recently completed 3-year project supported by Google.org to update the Geothermal Map of North America from 2004. TalkingPointsMemo has more, too: As part of that effort, the Mountain View, California-based company's philanthropic arm, "Google.org," on Tuesday published a new Google Earth map of the geothermal resources in the continental United States, created from data collected by the Geothermal Laboratory at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, which received a $489,521 grant from Google for the project. The new map, an update of a running one that SMU scientists prepared in 2004 and 1992, estimates that the technical potential of geothermal in the U.S. is nearly 3 million megawatts (2,980,295), or 10...

She even admitted that she might not have created OWN if she could do it all over again. "The idea of creating a network was something that I wanted to do. Had I known that it was this difficult, I might have done something else. I didn't think it was going to be easy, but...if I knew then what I know now, I might have made different choices. 2012 Imola WSBK and WSS Test Times: Sykes and Parkes Fastest, Lascorz Serio
2012-04-02 22:36:00
Tragedy overshadowed the World Superbike test held on the day after the Imola round of WSBK. Kawasaki rider Joan Lascorz crashed heavily between Tosa and Piratella, breaking his collarbone and shoulder blade, and fracturing his T6 vertebra. Lascorz was airlifted to the local Bologna hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat his injuries. An official statement from the team said that Lascorz was still in serious danger, and that his condition would not be known until tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Lascorz' crash came at the end of the first session, and cast a pall over the day's proceedings, but riders still went out to test the new Pirelli tires the Italian manufacturer had brought to the track. The tires - and better weather - made a huge difference, Kawasaki's Tom Sykes smashing the outright lap record at the track using race tires, and beating his previous best set on qualifiers. Ten Kate Honda's Johnny Rea also made good strides forward, setting the 2nd fastest...
Historic times when adultery was high.
2012-04-02 08:54:00
Historic times when adultery was high. 01/04/12 Finding accurate statistics on adultery rates is very difficult. The most accurate way to get data is through face to face interviews and most people are unwilling to disclose extramarital affairs when they know their identity will be known. However, throughout history, there have been markers that indicate probable increases in infidelity. We’ve listed a few of those times below. Ancient Greece – Ancient Greeks did not view human sexuality the same as we do now. There seems to have been a lot more freedom. As women became land owners and their position in society increased, sexual freedoms became more acceptable as it was considered a gift from the Gods. The dawning of Christianity – There are scholars who have interpreted certain parts of the Scripture to indicate that some of the earliest Christians felt that because their sins were forgiven they had the freedom to commit all kinds of sexual immorality that had ...

Times Internet Will Spend $7 Million To Market IPL 5: Will It Prove Benefic
2012-03-30 12:38:00
Times Internet Limited (TIL) is expected to spend US$ 7 Million (Rs 35 Crores) on marketing activities for the upcoming IPL Season 5. The 51-Day event will have big sponsors like Coke, Samsung, Maruti Suzuki, HUL, Hero, Citi Bank, Ebay, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Karbonn Mobiles. Interestingly, these sponsors are only for the online edition. Hence it appears TIL stands to gain a lot more than what it spends. In retrospection TIL had spent Rs. 261 Crores (US$ 50 Million) to acquire IPL’s global internet, mobile and radio rights, for 4 Years. Since IPL is an annual event, the agreement also included television broadcast rights for few territories. Just last year, TIL had partnered with Google to stream IPL Live on Youtube. This year it also wants to rope in All India Radio (AIR) to ensure radio coverage via AM air-waves. The digital route has been revamped too. This year, TIL’s website will have features like interactive scorecards, high-definition streaming & record-rewi...

HumaneWatch Billboards Hit Times Square — And HSUS
2012-03-29 23:47:00
With billboards in New York City’s Times Square, today the Center for Consumer Freedom’s HumaneWatch project is advising Americans to “read the fine print” before donating to the Humane Society of the United States. Public polling shows that over two-thirds of Americans mistakenly believe that HSUS gives most of its money to pet shelters. Actually, it gives one percent of its budget to local pet shelters. You can forgive HSUS’s donors for their confusion: According to our analysis of HSUS television fundraising ads aired from January 2009 to September 2011, 85 percent of the animals in HSUS ads were dogs and cats — and less than one percent of ad airings had even a tiny, fine-print disclaimer noting that HSUS isn’t affiliated with local pet shelters. It’s no surprise then that in a poll of shelter professionals, 71 percent of respondents agreed that “HSUS misleads people into thinking it is associated with local animal shelters.” So if HSUS isn’t actua...

He had 380mg of alcohol per decilitre of blood in his system, more than 30mg the amount associated with fatalities and just short of the 416mg Amy Winehouse had in her body when she died surrounded by three empty vodka bottles. The legal limit for driving in the UK is 80mg of alcohol per decilitre of blood. In most European countries including Spain where drink-drink limits are lower, he would have been nearly eight times over the permitted amount to drive. The tests also revealed father-of-three Moore, found dead in bed at a luxury Costa del Sol hotel last February, had abused alcohol for years.more
