I am not ready to stop playing for my country," said Beckham. "I have a few more wrinkles now but I still feel I can do what I did 10 years ago. I was happy with my performance against France in March, my first game under Fabio Capello, and it was the same against the United States the other night. King Sugar At Death’s Door In Trinidad & Tobago~Will Barbados Fol
2007-10-25 10:49:00
Prime Minister Patrick Manning has vowed that sugar workers will never return to cutting cane as long as he is Prime Minister. “That is going back to slavery,” said Manning, whose statement brought strong criticism from two of the major stakeholders in the industry yesterday. Source: Trinidad Express It seems that Prime Minister Patrick Manning listened to the now deceased Prime Minister Errol Barrow of Barbados when he delivered the ‘no cane blade’ speech. The announcement by Prime Minister Patrick Manning that his party, the People National Movement (PNM) is committed to dismantling the sugar industry has sparked a raging debate in Trinidad and Tobago on the eve of a general election to held on November 05, 2007. As you would expect the rival opposition political parties, the UNC Alliance and the COP have announced differing positions; if elected they have promised to pump millions of dollars into the gasping sugar industry. Our readers should be interes...

Andrew Zimmerman and Rachael Ray go cuisine crazy over Trinidad and Tobago
2007-08-24 19:17:00
It seems as if US food networks have gone cuisine crazy over Trinidad and Tobago. First, Andrew Zimmerman from the Travel Channel?s Bizarre Foods show featured several of Trinidad and Tobago?s dishes, which seem really normal to us Trinis, but seem bizarre in other parts of the world. One dish, the ever popular bake and shark, which is always available at Maracas Beach, got Andrew?s vote as one of his top ten favourite foods in the world! Andrew calls it a fish sandwich. We know it as fry bake with the best shark ever. Andrew discovers that Trinidad and Tobago?s diverse ethnic population, which includes Indian, African, Chinese, Creole, Spanish and French descendants, creates what he terms ?a cuisine unlike anywhere else in the world?. He went deep sea fishing, iguana hunting, conch shell hunting, and sampled souse, doubles and roti, and had loads of fun along the way. Now, the cooking guru everyone loves to love, Rachael Ray has joined in on the excitement, and will feature Trinida...
Family vacation in Tobago
2007-08-15 16:41:00
Where do you go for a family vacation? Freelance writer Mimi Spencer was faced with hat decision not too long ago, and settled on Trinidad?s sister isle Tobago. It was the ultimate family vacation, with grandparents and children making the trek as well. If you?re curious about the personal experience someone has when visiting Tobago, Mimi?s January 2007, Guardian UK article is sure to give you the insight you?re looking for. See below for an excerpt.?This is Pigeon Point in Tobago, a place so picture-book perfect that it might just be a dream. With its white powder sand backed by almond trees and coconut palms, it boasts the world's most photographed jetty, reaching out into the silver sea as if it's fishing for compliments. What you don't get from your idle imaginings, hatched while on the Tube to work or sitting on the ring road just outside Coventry, is the salty, quirky taste of the place. How, at Pigeon Point, you can buy sour-sop ice-cream by the weight from an ancient woma...

What MACO means
2007-07-30 15:12:00
Caribbean Creole has spawned many words that are the backbone of expression in the region. Creole is a bonafide dialect of its own, and like many things of the Caribbean, its makeup samples parts of various cultures and languages. For example, in Trinidad, Creole has roots in various languages including, African, Hindi, French and Spanish ? which brings us to how we got our name, MACO.MACO (mako) is a verb. It?s a French Patois word, which means ?to mind other people?s business?. We like to call it exclusive peeping. After all, month after month, we venture into people?s properties ? with their permission of course ? to explore the beautiful homes or hotels they?ve created. We get some divine recipes from some of the best chefs in the Caribbean, and we discover exotic travel destinations that can literally take your breath away. Then, we come back to give you the scoop, and so the MACOing continues. Some time ago, Caribbean Beat wrote a short article about us, and we think it?s a fit...

Irvine golf course called Romanca. The whole show is going to look amazing. In true MACO style, they will be showcasing the stunning places and talent we have in the Caribbean. In between takes I am juggling sales for my next issue of Destinations, which goes to print at the end of August ? and finishing three, new articles (one about a really sexy, new restaurant in Barbados). Even though it?s...
