2012-01-01 17:06:00
I have been making this Fish Tofu for a few years. In the beginning, it was to incorporate vegetables to food that my veggie hater son likes to eat. 4 years passed and I'm still making this but it never fail to make my son to eat more even it's stuffed with chopped veggies. Yes, he still hates veggies. :/ Ingredients: 150g Fish Paste 1 tube Egg Tofu 2 stalk Baby Bok Choy, chopped 2 Crabstick, chopped a dash of Pepper (optional) How to do it: Cut the tip of egg tofu and squeeze tofu out to a bowl. Add in fish paste, chopped baby bok choy and crabstick. Add pepper and mix well. Take a deep dish, oil all sides well for easy removable. Spread fish tofu paste. Cover with foil. Steam for 15 minutes or till cooked. Removed and cut into pieces. Pan fried the steamed fish tofu with a little till slightly brown on all sides. Serve. Note: You can use other type of vegetables if you like. If you want it with a crispy outer skin, dust it with corn flour before pan frying the fish ...

Just my usual rambling on a beautiful autumn day. But wait, I have a recipe too which uses coloured peppers and tofu who are here to bid good bye to fall and welcome brrr? the winter. Bight shades of yellow, red and green bell peppers adorned our dinner plates with gold crusted tofu in the form of Tofu Tikka. Full story, recipe & more images »
Hot & Sour Vegetable Soup Recipe | Hot & Sour Veg and Tofu Soup
2011-10-21 10:54:00
Hot and Sour Vegetable Soup This has to be the shortest autumn here in my neck of wood. We enjoyed long, sunny and unbelievably warm summer this year. Just when the leaves turned to gorgeous shades of yellow, red and orange, the gushing wind and heavy downpour undressed the trees and now they stand almost naked with few leaves hanging there for their dear life. With dropping temperature and cold wind blowing at high speeds, UK is officially ready to welcome winter. Brrrr?. Full story, recipe & more images »

Fish Tofu with Assorted Veggies 鱌肉豆腐炒什菜
2010-07-28 18:01:00
This is one dish that have everything that the family will like. Sometimes, I'll change the vegetables and it's looks like a new dish for the kids.  The main item here is the fish tofu, which will need a bit work but trust me, the kids even adults will like it. If you are unable to get ready made fish paste, you can make your own. My suggested recipe is here. I'm lucky that there's a stall selling Yong Tau Foo é…żè±†è… in the wet market at my place here. I can buy just the fish paste from them, which in my opinion far more better than those sold in supermarket. Ingredients: 150g Fish Paste 1 tube Egg Tofu 1 clove Garlic, minced 8 Fresh Shitake Mushroom, sliced 12 Sweet Peas, tips removed 1/2 Carrot, sliced 6 tablespoon Broth Salt to taste Oil for frying Cornflour mixture (thickener), optional How to do it: Squeeze the tofu out of the tube. Tofu fish fillet
2009-07-06 17:41:00
Here's a recipe for tofu fish fillet, but without the fish. It is really just breaded slices of tofu baked in an oven, but very, very tasty. You can put it on top of a salad, make it into a sandwich, or serve it with your favorite condiments. You can also make them into fish fillet sticks and serve it with tartar sauce or dijon mustard.Ingredients:12 ounces firm tofuOne egg, beaten Panko breadcrumbs2 tbsp wine vinegar1/4 tsp paprika1/4 tsp garlic powder1/4 tsp onion powderDirections:Cut the block of tofu into halves for large slices, or into fours for smaller slices. Alternatively, you can also cut them into long blocks for fish sticks.Press and drain the pieces to remove the water. You can place the tofu slices on paper towels, fold the towels over to cover the tofu, and place a large plate on top of the tofu to weigh it down. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Pat the tofu dry with paper towels. Combine the wine vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Marinate the tof...
Green tea tofu soy ice cream

The recipe I ended up using was the Vegan soy ice cream recipe from Post Punk Kitchen. The recipe was very basic and used minimal ingredients. All I had to do was customize it with my choice of flavor.Ingredients:12 ounces firm silken tofu1 cup plain soy milk1/3 cup maple syrup2 tsp vanilla5 tsp green tea powderDirections:Combine the ingredients in a blender and blend until the mixture becomes smooth.Next, I added the green tea powder. I added a little extra for a stronger green tea taste.Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions. For my machine, I left it on for about 20 minutes and that did the job. Here's the green tea ice cream. It came out great! The texture of the ice cream was very smooth and creamy. The green tea flavor was perfect too. I didn't add any sugar, because I like my green tea ice cream bitter. There's something about sweeten green tea ice cream that just bugs me a bit. This recipe made about 3 cups of delicio...

Stir-Fried Tofu With Beans Recipe

The IngredientsI was so tempted to hold on to this recipe and post it a couple of weeks later, what with all the emails and comments asking for the recipe, when I posted the picture of the ingredients for Click. I was loving the attention! You guys are so cool, you know, making me feel so loved and wanted. I have asked TH to contact you for some lessons on that. However, as much as I loved hearing from you all, I thought I shouldn't make you good people wait any longer. This is one of the few dishes that I buy for lunch from the local hawker centers near office. It seemed so simple yet tasted so good that I had to try it at home. I did ask the aunty at the food stall what they add to it but she just waved me off after saying "tofu, tomatoes, tomato sauce.." so I was thinking I'll pretty much improvise on my own. The recipe is inspired by Hooked on Heat with some minor changes from my end.But first things first. Huge thanks to Delhibelle for helping me identify the right tofu to buy...

Steam Tofu with Prawns
2008-12-03 23:35:00
My daughter loves this dish and she can finish all the tofu on her own. That is after some adjustments to it.Previously, when I do this I use dried mushroom. Perhaps the smell and taste is too strong to her liking and I used fresh shitake mushroom instead and she loves it. Of course, partially the reason was the sauce too. Tofu are bland without any accompanying sauce, kids might not like it at all.Ingredients:1 block silken Tofu, sliced equally in smaller pieces6 Prawns or depending on the no. of slices of tofu you have1 Fresh Shitake Mushroom, sliced1 section Carrot, about length of finger shreddedSesame Seed OilSauce:5 tablespoon Water1 tablespoon Oyster Sauce3/4 tablespoon Light Soy Sauce1/2 tablespoon Cooking Wine1 teaspoon SugarCornflour Mixture (thickener)How to do it:Place sliced tofu on dish.Remove heads and shells of prawns.Slit the back of prawns.Devien and clean.Place prawns with slitted back on tofu.Place a slice of mushroom and some shredded carrot on prawns.Steam for ...

Tofu Pumpkin Pie
2008-11-24 02:40:00
I posted a recipe for a vegan pumpkin pie a while back. I have been looking forward to baking this for some time and was very excited this past weekend when I finally made time for it. I am a big fan of pies and cakes. Also, I am always intrigued by vegan food and the many things you can do with tofu. I have made tofu cheesecakes in the past (Blueberry tofu cheesecake and Blackberry vegan tofu cheesecake) and those turned out totally delightful. The ingredient tofu is a great substitute for milk and eggs. I imagined tofu pumpkin pie would just be as amazing!I ended up making one 9 inch pumpkin pie and 6 mini ones. I used Keebler ReadyCrust graham cracker piecrust. I scaled up the ingredients a little. I only found 29 oz size cans of pumpkin puree and decided use it all up.The tofu pumpkin pies came out amazing! The spices made the pie very flavorful. The tofu gave the pie filling a nice rich texture. The pie is not overwhelmingly sweet or too rich, and the pumpkin flavor was just r...
Flash in the Pan: Mex-Ital Tofu Scramble
2008-07-24 03:36:00
[I've decided to offer a mini-post every once in a while, for a dish that comes together incredibly quickly, or else is so easy to make that no recipe is required.  Here's today's "Flash in the Pan."] [Non-salsa version] Oooh. . . I’m feeling the crunch.  I wish I could say that’s the “crunch” of a lovely rice crisp-filled chocolate bar or the crunch of ice in a gin and tonic as I lounge by a pool, or even the crunch of my feet as they traverse a lovely woodsy trail with The Girls, but no; the crunch I am experiencing is the crunch of marking as the semester nears its end.  And now that we’ve reached this critical juncture in the term, I’m afraid I won’t be able to post as often as I’d like, at least for a couple of weeks. I did discover that I’ve got quite a few photos from previous cooking adventures, however, patiently waiting for posts, so I’ll try to clear out some old files over the next while as I simultane...

Tofu Dip

I absolutely love the logo and idea of SusanÂŽs Beautiful Bones event. As paying attention to calcium was crucial during my vegan years, I am particularly happy to participate in such events. This fresh dip is a great choice on those mornings, when you have to go to work, but first to the post office and make a phone call, pay the rent and definitely do not have time to cook lunch or even think of cooking. What is more, there is not much in the fridge...Challenging, but still, my all time favorite calcium shot:TOFU DIP: 100g Tofu2 cloves garlic1oo ml yoghurthandful of walnutschilliblack peppersaltbasil leavesPlace all the ingredients into a blender and let it work its magic. Adjust the salt to taste and voilla, here goes your summer bone-friendly treat. This is an absolute forgiving recipe, so don't be afraid to experiment. Nepalese Tofu And Pea Curry
2008-05-22 18:03:00
I am always on a constant hunt for genuine ethnic recipes. So each time I go to a library or a store I am trying to grab a cookbook that would justify this hunger. I was pretty lucky on my last trip to our library discovering a cute little book on Nepalese cooking. I have tried several recipes so far, all of them yummy and spicy, somehow an interesting fusion between Chinese and Indian cuisine. Here, I would like to share my absolute favorite:NEPALESE PEAS AND TOFU CURRY:(Kerau Ra Tofu Tarkari)oil for frying450 g firm tofu2 cm fresh ginger2 cloves garlic1/2 tsp turmeric1 tsp ground cumin1 large onion, sliced2 cardamom pods1 red fresh chili2 bay leaves1 tsp salt2 cups peas4 tomatoes2 cups water or veggie broth1/2 tsp ground chili1/2 tsp ground coriander1 tsp garam masalaCube the tofu into 2 x 2 x 1 cm pieces and shallow-fry them until golden. Tofu Satay
2008-04-27 08:45:00
Our colleague wanted to share a beautiful bottle of  shaouiu (Chinese whisky), so mi marido and I hosted a small dinner party. Because the centerpiece was the shaouju, I made several of typical Japanese bar food like rice balls, pickled veggies, cucumber sticks with spicy miso dip, savory pancakes, and edamame salad (which was the best I can do to pair with this particular drink I hadn't had).I wanted to make something with a package of the high protein organic tofu from Trader Joe's, so here it is. I will definitely make these again :) Oh and I made some tofu salad to stuff pita pockets with tofu that I scooped out, which I thought was brilliant. On a different note, a kind acquaintance of mi marido's gave us an indoor composter this morning, and I am excited about wasting less resources :) It's a small change, but it's a step forward right? I learned that we need to buy worms for our composter, which made me realize I didn't know much about how composters work. Growing ...

The Health Benefits of Tofu
2008-03-24 15:17:00
What is Tofu and How is it made?Tofu is soybean curd, made from soymilk in much the same way that cheese is made from cow's milk. Most large-scale maufacturers of tofu make their own soymilk, to which they then add an agent to cause coagulation, usually a salt or an acid. When a coagulant is added to the hot-boiled soymilk, it causes curds (made of protein and fat) to form. The excess liquid is squeezed out and the remaining solid curds are presed into blocks. There are typically three main varieties of tofu. firm, soft and silken.Firm TofuFirm tofu is dense and holds its shape easily. It's best for slicing, stir-frying, marinating and grilling. It has the highest protein, calcium and fat content of all tofu.Soft TofuIt is more gelatinous and it works well in soups and as an egg replacer, since its consistency is similar to that of a har-boiled egg-white.Silken Tofu is curdled in its package and not drained, resulting in a creamy tofu with a high moisture content. Its great for ble...
