They give the listener exactly what they want and nothing more. With only one song breaking the three minute mark, Tokyo Police Clubs debut album clocks in in under a half hour.Now with that said people probably assume this band is playing fast hard punk, right? Wrong. Tokyo Police Club plays rhythm-heavy atmospheric indie pop. Their sound can be compared to Broken Social Scene with hints of Sunny Day Real Estate and Kula Shaker.The poppiness of TPC can not be over stated. Although they have lush arrangements and occasionally employ wall-of-guitar production, they never forget the luster of hand claps or a gang-vocal "HEY!".In the end, I can not think of a better way to follow up two well recieved EPs. 2007-04-22 15:39:00 TOKYO POLICE CLUB started by accident one day in the ordinary suburb of Newmarket when Greg, Josh, Dave, and Graham decided that they missed playing music together, their previous band having broken up several months before. The four gathered in Josh's basement, plugging in instruments and making up songs almost at random, with no goal but to recapture the magic that they felt making music together. By the time summer came, TPC had began quietly to play shows in the Toronto area, shows at which the very few people in attendance seemed impressed by what they saw. The Canadian band released A Lesson In Crime in 2006, and with their short, catchy songs, they won the hearts of indie fans and critics. As if the ever-widening fan base wasn't enough to satisfy the band, Rolling Stone claimed Tokyo Police Club was the best "neo-punk post-anti-rock (circa 73) since the Pavement reissue of Wowee Zowee."
