Introduction and Photos of The Ming Tombs
2007-10-17 09:20:00 At a distance of 50 km northwest of Beijing stands an arc-shaped cluster of hills fronted by a small plain. Here is where 13 emperors of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) were buried, and the area is known as the Ming Tombs. Construction of the tombs started in 1409 and ended with the fall of the Ming Dynasty in 1644. In over 200 years tombs were built over an area of 40 square kilometres, which is surrounded by walls totalling 40 kilometres. Each tomb is located at the foot of a separate hill and is linked with the other tombs by a road called the Sacred Way. The stone archway at the southern end of the Sacred Way, built in 1540, is 14 metres high and 19 metres wide, and is decorated with designs of clouds, waves and divine animals. Â Beijing served as the national capital during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Unlike Ming and Qing rulers who all built massive tombs for themselves, Yuan rulers left no similar burial grounds. Why the difference? This has to do with people’s dif...

Workers destroy ancient Chinese tombs
2007-08-06 15:39:00 About 10 ancient tombs dating back nearly 1,800 years have been destroyed by construction workers building an IKEA branch in Nanjing in southeastern China, a city newspaper said today. The tombs - from the "six dynasties" period from AD 220 to 589 - were uncovered on the outskirts of the ancient capital in Jiangsu province, the Nanjing Morning Post said.City archaeologists told the newspaper the tombs might have been those of a wealthy family of the period as the workmanship was of high quality. The tombs were constructed of green bricks embroidered with ornate lotus patterns. The tombs were destroyed by excavation machines and bulldozers making way for an outlet for the Swedish IKEA home furnishings chain, according to the report.Archaeologists from the Nanjing Museum have asked the developers to halt construction while they research the site and collect the artefacts, the report said, but it was not clear whether the work had been stopped.Under Chinese law, people or work units foun...

Small Heroic Mana Tombs Guide
2007-06-30 14:48:00 Just finished a Heroic Mana Tombs run with guildies which went very well (only died twice cuz of overnuking oO) so here are some general tips :Group setup (not sure if this is ideal but it works well)* Protection Warrior* Feral druid (with dps gear)* Fire/Arcane Mage* Affliction Warlock (your's truly)* Holy PriestBosses Pandemonius needs to be tanked by the prot Warrior, who's standing with his/her back against the wall on your right side as you enter the room. The feral Druid goes catmode with DPS gear on & stays behind the boss. The dps and healer stands in the corner on the right, so they dont get the knockback. Dont dps when he shifts into the void, spamheal the tank & burn the boss down asap are keywords here.Shadow resistance gear for the tank is optional here.Tawarok is a basic tank and spank fight, while the healer keeps up a HoT on the tank in case of the eartquake or the crystal prison. Pretty easy boss overall.Nexus-Prince Shaffar has 3 balls around him. Mage opens ...
Tombs of the Apostles
2007-05-11 09:10:00 Santi Apostoli, Rome Catholic News Service has an article on Tom Bissell, a highly regarded travel and nonfiction writer, who is at the American Academy in Rome this year working on a book on the tombs of the Twelve Apostles.Actually, as Bissell pointed out, it's 13 Apostles -- Matthias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot."St. Matthias, like most of the apostles, is known mostly through legend and tradition. His relics were said to have been brought from Jerusalem by St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, and given in part to an abbey church in Trier, Germany. So Bissell made a pilgrimage to Trier and spent the day with a priest, who happened to be named Matthias."This priest had a really beautiful way of looking at it," Bissell said. "He said, 'I don't really know if these are Matthias' bones, but this church is here, and I am here because someone very early on believed these were the relics of one of the apostles, and that's a tradition worth preserving.'"Bissell sa...
Pentagrams, Tombstones, Soldiers, and Witches?

Easter: Eggs and Bunnies, Crosses and Tombs
2007-04-06 15:00:00 As you know this Sunday, April 8, 2007 is known as Easter Sunday. As you enjoy time with your family and friends I would ask that you ponder a few things. As Christians, are we really celebrating the risen Savior, the resurrection of Christ for our justification, or is it just a holiday in which we use His name? One might say, ?That?s a crazy question, of course we are celebrating Jesus Christ on this day.?This is what I find interesting:1. We replace worship service preaching with music services. I am not against music, but scripture clearly says that the preaching of the cross is the power of God, not singing [1 Corinthians 1:18]. You could try and argue the point that singing is the same as proclaiming the gospel, but there may be some difficulty finding scriptural support. It is a well known fact that most people that hardly ever enter the doors of a church may visit on Christmas and Easter, so why then do we give them only singing; and maybe a five (5) minute thought and alter c...
