Lake Marion - Pan-O-Prog Days Tournament - July 12th, 2008
2008-07-19 13:28:00 So yesterday I fished the Pan-O-Prog tournament on Lake Marion for the 4th year in a row. The 3rd time with Ryan Brant as my partner. We took 3rd the previous two years and really had our sight on trying to win it this year. Its hard to have a real solid game plan, because with 40 boats on this little lake, boat draw can really dictate how you start your tournament day.I stepped up and drew boat #38 out of the bag, so that means we had to kind of wait and see what would be left for us to start on. Most of our good areas were already covered up, so we made a quick 15 minute pass in a shallow area and I got one decent keeper on a 3/8oz Green Pumpkin/Brown Tru-Tungsten Jig. We started down the lake and saw an opening on one of our deep weedlines. I quickly boated another small keeper on the jig and lost another one that was pretty small as well. 2008-07-14 06:32:00 I dragged myself up early and along to the second day of the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament.There was a line of people already waiting when I arrived at the ticket office.After standing in an orderly fashion for 10 minutes in the rapidly rising heat I purchased my ticket.And escaped into the air conditioned chasm of the Nagoya Prefectural Gym.In time to see the first bout of the day at 8:35pm.There were two shock results from the opening day.First Kotooshu,the ozeki from Bulgaria,who won the last tournament and is looking for another Emperors Cup to gain promotion to yokozuna,lost.Not surprisng really considering that his opponent was Aminishiki.His record against him now stands at 0-6 including one loss by default.The other surprise was Asashoryu's loss to Toyonoshima.Asa's record against him was 5-0 until yesterdays bout when Toyonoshima narrowly avoided touching the dirt before Asashoryu.The photo above shows a bowl of chanko nabe.Its a key dish in the diet of a sumo wrestler.It ...

2008-06-25 22:39:00 You may have noticed there was no Club Tournament #3, I skipped Lake Koronis to spend the day with my wife on our 5th Wedding Anniversary. So on to Green Lake....When we arrived at the launch, that was my first look at Green Lake, no time to pre-fish and no prior history. Always makes for an interesting tournament. I did do a little research and talked to a few guys in the club to get an idea of what stage the smallmouth were in, as they are the predominant species and how most tournaments are won on this lake. My partner Frank did get out one day on the lake, scouted out a few things but it was terribly windy that day.We started on one of the main lake reefs in the middle of the wide open lake, the wind was already coming across pretty good. 2008-06-24 09:49:00 We had our first Jr Gopher Bassmaster Club event on O'dowd in Shakopee this past Sunday. I was available to be a boat captain, and I always like to fish these when I can. This tournament, we had one adult club member acting as captain and a jr. angler to form teams. It was a shared 5 bass limit, but the catch was, that the adult angler could only weigh a maximum of 2 bass. I drew Cody Sieben who is a very accomplished youth bass angler, he has 2 state titles to his credit along with many other wins and high finishes.I had been on the lake once before earlier this spring, so we started near one of the island working topwater, I started with a Vixen and Cody a buzz frog. I did not get on the water until 10am and the weather was brutal at best. Sustained winds at 20-25mph with gusts up to 39mph, that mixed in with plenty of rain. I started out by covering water, targeting mostly flats with a swim jig, SWL Spinnerbait, Sebile Flatt Shad and an Ima Shaker. That water temp was around 59-60 degrees. The more I fished, the more confident I was, that most of the fish were still pre-spawn.The spinnerbait and swim jig yielded the most bites early on, they were keepers but nothing great. I checked a few docks here and there with my trusty 3/8oz Tru-Tungsten jig and got some bites, some felt decent, I did not set on those fish. My partner, Matt Veech (Gopher Jr. Member) were last out, so we lingered around to fish some of the cabbage and shallow structure near the ramp. I started out with a Matte Bluegill colored Ima Flit jerkbait, working the drop over where some cabbage tapered off from about 5 feet to 10ft. Nothing happened there. I then started flipping a 1/4oz Tru-Tungsten jig into some wood, I caught one that was so close to 14" but not quite. When I was traveling around Europe about ten years ago I was visiting some family in Ireland and had an opportunity to go to England including London. London never really interested me and wasn't a place I thought I would really want to visit until I finally went and God I was glad I did. I thought it would be to busy and intimidating. I got over it quick when I saw first hand the beauty and the history of London. I loved getting around in the Underground visiting some of London's historical museum as well as I got a chance to take in a few matches at Wimbledon. A friend got some great Wimbledon tickets that we just couldn't pass up they were higher up but it didn't matter.
