Minnetonka Gopher Bassmaster Club Tournaments
2009-09-04 03:19:00 This past weekend we had our last two regular season club tournaments on Lake Minnetonka, we fished the West side on Saturday and the East on Sunday as two separate events. There were quite a few things on the line this weekend. I was in the final four for our Match Championship, I was leading the Angler of Year by a tiny margin and in position to be our State Team Captain and guaranteed boater next September at the MNBFN TOC on Lake Minnetonka. On day 1, I had practiced one day the previous weekend and tried to find some deeper fish on the west side with my partner Henry. We caught some fish, but nothing consistent, big or schooled. With the mostly unproductive practice and my limited knowledge of that side of the lake, I decided to stick to my strength and fish shallow with a jig for the majority of the day. I caught about 15 keepers, one on a black Secret Weapon Lure Buzzbait and the rest all came on various 3/8oz and 1/2oz Tru-Tungsten jigs flip...

Minnetonka Club Tournaments this Weeked & more.....
2008-09-05 12:32:00 I have two club tournaments this weekend on Minnetonka, Saturday we launch from the west side and the east side on Sunday. I have been not been out on Tonka since July 4th and before that it was probably May last year. It will be interesting as neither of my partners have been out there, so we will just have to wing it a bit. I am hoping to do well enough this weekend to lock up a spot on next year's State TOC team without fishing the last two club tournaments on Pokegama. Look for tournaments report early next week!Last Sunday I spent some time on Pokegama, fished all new water, caught a few nice fish, not sure it is anything I will use in the Weekend Series tournament, so hind sight, I wish I would have went to Tonka that day instead. If you have not been to Bass Fishing the Midwest to check out my Podcast, you can now listen to it here. Also, feel free to go back and visit my other two podcasts:Rich Lindgren on Outdoors This WeekCatch'N.com Radio In...

2008-03-25 00:00:00 {mosgoogle right}TOKYO (AP) -- Yokozuna Asashoryu threw out Hakuho on Sunday to take the title back from his archrival at the Spring Grand Tournament. In a grudge match in the tournament finale, Asashoryu got both arms around Hakuho, twisting him around and out of the straw ridge with an arm-bar throw at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium. It was Asashoryu's chance to exact revenge on his opponent, who had spoiled his comeback from a two-tournament suspension on the last day of t ...

Howard teams out of MEAC basketball tournaments
2008-03-12 19:16:00 The Howard Bison men's basketball team fought hard but was edged out in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. #7 seed Coppin State player Tywain McKee hit two free throws to make the difference in a 55-54 win over #10 seed Howard. The Bison fell behind by 12 points at game's start but recovered in the second half to come within two points of the Baltimore school. On the women's MEAC side, Howard couldn't make up the margin falling in an upset (by seeding terms) to Florida A&M, 59-49. Aside from the extremely unlikely possibility of George Mason, no teams from the immediate D.C. area will win any of the women's conference tournaments. #1 seed American was upset in the first round of the Patriot League tourney, #2 seeds Maryland and George Wahsington were upset in their respective conference semifinals.Relevant links: Baltimore Sun, Raleigh News-Observer

The Cake Poker Sunday Night Tournaments
2008-03-05 01:12:00 OVERLAY: A good bet tournament where the player has an edge over the casino rest of the field. (http://www.gamingtoday.com/Glo-ssary/casino.cfm) The Cake Poker Sunday Night Tournaments always have an incredible overlay. I played the one this Sunday for a $100+10 buy-in (satellites available), with a $75,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool. There are others, but this one is my favorite because the amount of OVERLAY the Cake Poker tournament provides. You start with 3000 chips, and there are usually 700-800 entrants. Almost every single time I have played this, about half the field has been eliminated by the first break. All you have to do is sit tight and wait for a chance to double up. there WILL be a chance. The players on Cake Poker are some of the worst on the internet. Play tight, and solid in the first hour and you will be able to succeed fairly easily. Next time…the middle game. Shotokan Karate Tournaments. Do You Compete?
2007-11-22 11:29:00 I used to love competing, the whole experience, from training for the event, to going for something to eat with everyone, after the event.Karate competitions are a great learning arena, you find more out about yourself and others, than you could ever do in the dojo, why? Because the pressure is different, yes, there is pressure in the dojo, but it doesn't normally compare to tournament pressure.Everyone should compete at some time, just to experience the multitude of thoughts and feelings that every karateka experiences in a competition. It definitely means stepping out of the 'comfort zone' for most people, but after the event, win or lose, you realise the experience was well worth the effort. One of my black belts has his first boxing match on Friday, he's really excited and at the same time, worried he's going to let everyone down, I said to him, 'If you have trained hard and done your best, it doesn't matter if you get knocked out in the first round, die rather than lose, ...

Grappling Tournaments For Families and Babalu - 31 Oct 2007 01:43:32pm
2007-10-31 14:43:00 By Sid Needelman On October 20th, 2007 in northern Miami, hundreds of competitors gathered to test out their skills against each other. Competitors came in all shapes and sizes. They were broken down in both gi and no-gi brackets, by skill, sex, weight and age. When most MMA fights end up on the ground, a solid ground game is crucial to success and many fighters start their journey to stardom at tournaments like these, or for well known competitors like The Ultimate Fighter's Cole Miller, they come to keep their skills sharp. This North American Grappling Association tournament, or NAGA for short, had a great tournaments for participants, family and friends to watch, and also two superfights. Neither of the Superfights went as planned, but still offered something a little extra to watch and give a little more to brag about when you say you participated in an event on the same mats as Babalu Sobral. Babalu, the very one who was the recent headline grabber for holding onto a...

The Fall PGA tournaments bore me to tears...someone had to say it!
2007-10-02 07:06:00 It's true...the fall leg of the PGA tour is like watching paint dry. Yeah, I know John Daly is making his third straight appearance in as many weeks at this weeks Valero Texas Open, but unless Big John pulls off a miracle, I don't even think there's a chance for him to get his card back for 2008. The highest ranking player on the money list playing this week is Steven "big teeth" Ames at 42nd. Don't get me wrong, Tiger doesn't have to be playing to keep me interested, but watching J.J. Henry and Justin Leonard battle it out in San Antonio isn't my idea of must watch television. I guess I'm just spoiled from seeing so much good, championship caliber golf at the end of the FedEx Cup matches. So when does the regular season start again?
