Minnetonka Club Tournaments this Weeked & more.....
2008-09-05 12:32:00
I have two club tournaments this weekend on Minnetonka, Saturday we launch from the west side and the east side on Sunday.  I have been not been out on Tonka since July 4th and before that it was probably May last year.  It will be interesting as neither of my partners have been out there, so we will just have to wing it a bit.  I am hoping to do well enough this weekend to lock up a spot on next year's State TOC team without fishing the last two club tournaments on Pokegama.  Look for tournaments report early next week!Last Sunday I spent some time on Pokegama, fished all new water, caught a few nice fish, not sure it is anything I will use in the Weekend Series tournament, so hind sight, I wish I would have went to Tonka that day instead.  If you have not been to Bass Fishing the Midwest to check out my Podcast, you can now listen to it here. Also, feel free to go back and visit my other two podcasts:Rich Lindgren on Outdoors This WeekCatch'N.com Radio In...

Bluffing in Sit-and-Go Tournaments
2008-04-01 14:26:00
If you don’t bluff successfully in Texas Holdem online sit-and-go tournament, you’ll be giving an edge to your opponents. Sit-and-go tourneys go by super-fast. You need to take every opportunity to grow your chip stack. If you play tight poker early on, you’ll need to employ deceptive plays in the latter stages of the tourney. Don’t Bluff in the Early Stages of a Sit-and-Go Much like the start of multitable poker tournaments, you need to approach the early stages of a sit-and-go with a very relaxed, conservative outlook. When the tourney is just starting off, there’s really no reason to make bold, deceptive moves. You shouldn’t even play marginal hands in the early rounds. Bluffing is certainly a required skill if you want to enjoy sit-and-go success, but you need to hold on to your bluffing and stealing urges until after the herd thins out a bit. Like any online tournament, sit-and-go tourneys feature plenty of horrible players. There’s no reason to get involved in b...

{mosgoogle right}TOKYO (AP) -- Yokozuna Asashoryu threw out Hakuho on Sunday to take the title back from his archrival at the Spring Grand Tournament. In a grudge match in the tournament finale, Asashoryu got both arms around Hakuho, twisting him around and out of the straw ridge with an arm-bar throw at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium. It was Asashoryu's chance to exact revenge on his opponent, who had spoiled his comeback from a two-tournament suspension on the last day of t ...

Howard teams out of MEAC basketball tournaments
2008-03-12 19:16:00
The Howard Bison men's basketball team fought hard but was edged out in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. #7 seed Coppin State player Tywain McKee hit two free throws to make the difference in a 55-54 win over #10 seed Howard. The Bison fell behind by 12 points at game's start but recovered in the second half to come within two points of the Baltimore school. On the women's MEAC side, Howard couldn't make up the margin falling in an upset (by seeding terms) to Florida A&M, 59-49. Aside from the extremely unlikely possibility of George Mason, no teams from the immediate D.C. area will win any of the women's conference tournaments. #1 seed American was upset in the first round of the Patriot League tourney, #2 seeds Maryland and George Wahsington were upset in their respective conference semifinals.Relevant links: Baltimore Sun, Raleigh News-Observer

The Cake Poker Sunday Night Tournaments
2008-03-05 01:12:00
OVERLAY: A good bet tournament where the player has an edge over the casino rest of the field. (http://www.gamingtoday.com/Glo-ssary/casino.cfm) The Cake Poker Sunday Night Tournaments always have an incredible overlay.  I played the one this Sunday for a $100+10 buy-in (satellites available), with a $75,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool. There are others, but this one is my favorite because the amount of OVERLAY the Cake Poker tournament provides. You start with 3000 chips, and there are usually 700-800 entrants.  Almost every single time I have played this, about half the field has been eliminated by the first break. All you have to do is sit tight and wait for a chance to double up.  there WILL be a chance.  The players on Cake Poker are some of the worst on the internet.  Play tight, and solid in the first hour and you will be able to succeed fairly easily. Next time…the middle game. Cake Poker, online poker strategy, poker strategy &...

Blind-Stealing In Poker Tournaments - 5 Common Mistakes And How To Avoid Th
2008-01-31 08:54:00
In poker tournament games the blinds and antes will increase rapidly the longer you play. Since premium hands do not come along too often, ’stealing’ these by raising from late position becomes a critical strategy to maintain you chip stack. However many players make mistakes in blind steals which actually end up costing chips instead of accumulating them. This article looks at these common mistakes and advises on how to ensure that you win more blinds than you lose. 1) Is The Reward Worth It? Stealing blinds too early in a poker tournament is rarely worth the risk. Yet many players do this in the early rounds. When the levels are 10 / 20 chips (for example) the benefit is not worth the chances of running into a big hand. Instead wait until there are enough chips to cover 10% to 15% of your stack on the table. 2) Not Every Time! Some players will attempt to take the blinds every time they are folded to in later position. This is asking for even the most passive player to...
How To Play A Small Stack In Online Poker Tournaments
2008-01-31 08:53:00
Something that every poker player will encounter at some point in their career is dealing with a short chip stack in the later stages of a tournament. There are many ways in which you can find yourself in this situation. These include losing a big pot, suffering a bad-beat or simply having no playable hands while the blinds catch up with you. This article looks at some of the important factors involved in playing situations where you are the small stack. Correct play - along with a ‘never give up’ attitude - can get you quickly back into contention for a major prize! With less than 10 times the big blind the number of ‘moves’ you are able to make is extremely limited. In fact your decisions will be made before the flop. With a short stack you are not able to raise and then fold. This is because the ‘pot-odds’ that you are offered to call any subsequent raise are too good. Any hand that you legitimately raised with becomes an easy calling hand if y...
Taking Advantage Of A Large Chip Stack In Online Poker Tournaments
2008-01-31 08:52:00
Having a large chip stack in an online poker tournament is a great situation to be in. Yet all too easily the other players can catch up, or even overtake your table chip lead. One ill-timed confrontation with a medium stack and you can be sitting - frustrated - on an average stack once again. Many players actually misplay their large chip stacks in multi-table tournaments. There are some fundamental adjustments required - but making the wrong adjustments is actually the number one reason that many players go deep in tournaments, but never seem to win. This article lists 4 ways in which online poker tournament players make mistakes with their large chip stacks - and suggests how to correct them. 1) Calling Too Much. Your large chip stack puts you in a great position to win chips with aggressive and positive play. However, calling too many raises from other players is a common mistake. The player who raises has already shown strength, and you need a legitimately strong hand to call t...

Shotokan Karate Tournaments. Do You Compete?
2007-11-22 11:29:00
I used to love competing, the whole experience, from training for the event, to going for something to eat with everyone, after the event.Karate competitions are a great learning arena, you find more out about yourself and others, than you could ever do in the dojo, why? Because the pressure is different, yes, there is pressure in the dojo, but it doesn't normally compare to tournament pressure.Everyone should compete at some time, just to experience the multitude of thoughts and feelings that every karateka experiences in a competition. It definitely means stepping out of the 'comfort zone' for most people, but after the event, win or lose, you realise the experience was well worth the effort. One of my black belts has his first boxing match on Friday, he's really excited and at the same time, worried he's going to let everyone down, I said to him, 'If you have trained hard and done your best, it doesn't matter if you get knocked out in the first round, die rather than lose, ...
