The Perfect Trade for the Natural Gas Vehicle Boom
2012-01-31 14:00:00
That car in your garage should be running on natural gas. With oil prices around $100 and unlikely to fall much lower in coming years, and natural gas selling for less than $3 per thousand cubic feet (MCF), the cost differential is far too big to ignore. Consider this: $3 of natural gas gets you about one million BTUs (British thermal heating units) of energy. It takes about eight gallons of gasoline (or about $25 to $30 worth at current prices) to get the same amount of energy. The gas price is wholesale while the gasoline price is retail, but even on an apples-to-apples basis, gasoline is at least five to six times more expensive. So why . . . → Read More: The Perfect Trade for the Natural Gas Vehicle Boom

The Miami Marlins are counting on excitable Ozzie Guillen to have a calming influence on quarrelsome Carlos Zambrano. The plan may sound crazy, but say this for the Marlins: They’ve become harder to ignore. Their latest offseason move was approved Thursday, when they acquired Zambrano from the Chicago Cubs for underachieving right-hander Chris Volstad.

Carson Palmer Trade Took Oakland Raiders Hue Jackson Off Focus

Why the Edwin Jackson trade doesn't make cents
2011-07-28 11:40:00
Last year at the trade deadline, Kenny Williams traded Daniel Hudson for Edwin Jackson. In my opinion, it has to be one of the worst moves in his tenure (only Alex Rios and Jake Peavy rank ahead of this move). Management got a taste of the bad trade in the second half of last season...
Cubs to trade Fukudome to the Indians

According to ESPNs Buster Olney, the Cubs will trade Kosuke Fukudome to the Cleveland Indians, probably before game time today.  It seems only the last details need to be worked out at this point, but this much is known so far… 1) The Cubs will receive 2 prospects 2) The Cubs will pay more than...
Can the Cubs really trade Soriano? Can they afford not to?
2011-07-22 11:29:00
When I first heard the suggestion that the Cubs should trade Soriano, I let out a big guffaw.  No way, I thought.  Who’s going to want to take on that kind of contract?  Now with word out that the Cubs are willing to pay “a high percentage” of Alfonso Soriano’s salary the idea doesn’t seem...

So now that we know that Jim Hendry won’t be dealing anybody he expects to be useful for next year’s team, we can run down the list of people who can be traded.   We can safely assume nobody will take Alfonso Soriano and his ridiculous contract unless the Cubs take a ridiculous one in return…Barry...
Cubs may still be able to trade Aramis Ramirez
2011-06-29 23:46:00
Apparently, Ramirez's contract isn't so prohibitive when it comes to trades after all.Well, except for the No Trade Clause he has yet to waive. It's been widely discussed that Ramirez's contract includes a club option that would automatically be exercised if he were to be traded. Not so, according to Bruce Levine of ESPN and Cot's Baseball Contracts. The only money Ramirez gets in the event of a trade is $1M to help with moving expenses.  That's quite a move if you ask me.  Still, it's quite affordable by any MLB team willing to pick up what's left of his salary.  And it's possible the Cubs would help out with some money as well. Now, assuming that's out of the way and that Ramirez,...
Why the Cubs should trade Geovanny Soto
2011-06-28 23:00:00
There's been lots of talk about who the Cubs should trade but one name that hasn't come up that often is Geovanny Soto.  It seems like an odd person to deal considering he doesn't make the kind of money Alfonso Soriano makes, nor is he past his prime like Aramis Ramirez.  He doesn't have attitude questions like Carlos Zambrano. So why Soto?  .1) He could bring back talent than all of those players combined, that is, if those other players can be traded at all.  Soto is a good player at a premium position.2) The Cubs have two catchers, Welington Castillo and Steve Clevenger who could step in and become the Cubs new catching tandem.  Castillo has really taken a step...
Chicago Bulls Shooting Guard Options - Free Agency or Trade?
2011-06-28 04:36:00
Assuming there will be a 2011-2012 NBA Season, the Chicago Bulls will most certainly be looking to bring in some veteran talent at the SG position.  Options will exist through trade, and possibly through free agency depending upon the new CBA.   The MLE (Mid Level Exception) is key to the Chicago Bulls being able to bring in a veteran through free agency.  This CBA is so uncertain that no one knows if the MLE, a hard salary cap, or a flex cap will exist next season.  For brevity sake, we will assume that the CBA will include a options for teams at the salary cap like the Chicago Bulls.Below are options through Free Agency and Trade that the Chicago Bulls...
Blackhawks trade Kopecky's rights to Florida, qualify three
2011-06-28 01:24:00
Stan Bowman and Dale Tallon must be besties.  For the third time in the last two seasons, the Blackhawks have made a trade with the Florida Panthers. The Blackhawks traded the negotiating rights to Tomas Kopecky to Tallon and the Panthers for a conditional 7th round draft pick.  The Blackhawks were going to let Kopecky walk July 1st, so this trade is a no brainer.  The Panthers want Kopecky, and found it worth the 7th rounder to have exclusive negotiating rights until Friday.  In other news, the Blackhawks qualified three of their four restricted free agents.  Receiving offers were Viktor Stalberg, Chris Campoli, and Michael Frolik.  It's expected that all three will sign the offers and return to the club.  Jake...
Reports : Blackhawks Trade Brian Campbell to Panthers
2011-06-25 04:39:00
Numerous NHL outlets are reporting that Brian Campbell has waived his no trade contact to accept a trade to the Florida Panthers.  Earlier Friday, rumors had flown that Campbell had been traded to Columbus, but it fell through. This trade appears to be the real deal.In his 215 games with the Blackhawks, Campbell recorded 19 goals and 117 points, with a +51 rating.  His talent has never been in question, but the contract former Blackhawk's and current Florida Panthers' GM Dale Tallon signed him to was far too much for a player of his ability.  His offensive numbers were decent, but he was too often a defensive liability.  The salary relief will help the Blackhawks resign Patrick Sharp, who is...

Cubs To Pursue Top Prospects and Young Players at Trade Deadline
2011-06-23 21:19:00
According to ESPN's Bruce Levine, the Cubs intend to pursue top prospects and young players at the trade deadline. They're just not exactly sure if they're going to approach it as buyers or sellers. Buy or Sell? Whatever the Cubs do they should focus on accumulating as many assets as possible. Approaching it as sellers would seem to be the obvious answer at first glance, but that may not be easy to do.  Trading Carlos Zambrano or Alfonso Soriano would require the Cubs to send over a significant amount of money -- and teams still may not be willing to give us a top prospect in exchange.  That's a decision that's going to have to come down from Tom Ricketts...

Obama Puts Unions Ahead of a Healthy Economy, Free Trade
2011-06-15 16:06:00
-By Warner Todd Huston President Obama claims that he wants to "create jobs," and is happily touting several policies that he claims will create jobs in this jobless, non-recovery. Unfortunately, all his polices really do is shore up the high cost unions that kill job growth. As GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConell says, Obama has "relentlessly pursued an agenda that is radically opposed" to job growth. Speaking on the floor last Tuesday, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, "For two and a half years, Democrats in Washington have paid lip service to the idea of job creation -- even as they've relentlessly pursued an agenda that is radically opposed to it... Democrats don't want to admit that the government-driven...
...One More Trade Thought: Could Marmol Be Moved?
2011-06-12 15:55:00
I thought I had covered most of the potential movers in my last post about Cub trade ideas, but one guy in particular got a lot of buzz in the comments, so I thought I'd give him his own post. Since humans usually read article titles before they read the body text, you know who I'm talking about: could the Cubs closer be traded soon? When I made my first pass at identifying potential trade candidates, I dismissed Carlos Marmol for two reasons: one, the Cubs just signed him to a long-term deal, and two, that deal pays him a relatively great deal of money in 2012 and 2013. If the Cubs were even thinking about dealing Marmol, why would they sign...
Should the Cubs trade Marmol?
2011-06-11 18:55:00
Sure we'd all like to trade Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Zambrano, but their contracts prohibit the Cubs from moving them.  It's likely the Cubs will try to trade Kosuke Fukudome, Marlon Byrd, and Carlos Pena if the team continues to fade -- but those would strictly be cost-cutting moves, there's little chance of getting anything in return but a sleeper prospect or two.Marmol could bring some young talent if the Cubs decide to rebuildSo what about Marmol?  That would really get other teams to start listening.  Marmol starts to get expensive next season at nearly $10M.  A highly paid closer is a luxury on a team with a bloated payroll who isn't expected to contend next season.    He may...
Agent: Ramirez won't give up no-trade clause
2011-06-08 00:20:00
Fred Mitchell reports that even if the Cubs consider a youth movement, the agent for Aramis Ramirez says he isn't inclined to drop his no-trade clause. The timing of Kinzer's announcement is more than likely A-Ram's camp posturing through the media, in the case the Cubs begin looking to deal some veterans. It's Kinzler's way of saying you are going to have to pay us to get us to give the no-trade up....

But if each fan were told they could get Stuckey and Gasol as a result of doing such a deal, then I'm sure they all would want a part of it. Fact is, Bulls should consider acquiring Collison as oppose to raw-cap, even if you have to make Deng the only principle in a such deal. By acquiring...
