Sticky Post: Live Webcam in Cambodia!
2012-04-25 08:06:00
CambodiaMapsWebcam has  just installed a webcam over the weekend and  it is still in beta-stage.  The time stamp is the current time in Phnom Penh and the above image refreshes every 12 seconds. However, due to frequent power cuts in Phnom Penh coupled with ISP connections dropping regularly, try re-loading or refreshing the page later if the image doesn?t change within one minute. Sorry folks, this is not a live sex cam ? absolutely NOTHING of that sort will be broadcast here. This was put up mostly to serve as a ?traffic webcam?. It?s already picked up by a lot of live webcam sites but there are still  lot of code-tweaking and camera adjustments need to be done here and there. But just so you see how it is in my part of the world, I?m putting it out here. We are still tryingto figure out how to get a better image quality and how to put this live webcam on my sidebar, so please bear with us for a while.

Survival of the well manicured on public transportation
2011-05-23 23:18:00
Speaking of CTA horror stories, when I lived in NYC, I was on the subway one day with my nose in a book when I went to reach for the handrail and my fingers scraped something soft.  I looked up and realized I had just gently scraped some girl's face. Her FACE!And she looked tough. And she looked pissed. But, she seemed to be with someone who was either a new boyfriend or someone she was just getting to know.  If my instincts were correct, she wanted to beat me up.  But, at the same time, she really liked this guy and her mother always said don't beat anyone up on the subway on the first date.  Or something like that....

In August 1914 he set up an expedition aiming to cross Antarctica from the Weddell Sea to the Ross Sea, cutting through across the South Pole. But before reaching his ... Shuttle Bus Service For Facebook, Twitter Employees: Bauer?s Transportation
2010-10-22 19:48:00
Bauer?s Transportation has become the "Tech Shuttle Bus Service," as it provides transportation for Facebook and Twitter employees, to name some of the high tech San Francisco Bay Area companies it serves. But the "Tech Shuttle Bus Service" is not exclusive to Facebook and Twitter. Other companies can participate in it as well. It's all a part of Bauer?s Transportation's new roll as a mass transit provider. Bauer?s Transportation also offers a new service called "Wi-Drive." "Wi-Drive" is a bus shuttle transportation service that goes round-trip between the city of Santa Rosa and San Francisco and between the cities of Fremont and Milpitas. Bauer's also offers the innovative "Solar Hybrid Bus." Bauer's Transportation Founder and President Gary Bauer says "Since 2008 California state law has prohibited diesel vehicles from idling for more than five minutes. More than 25 states across the United States now have anti-idling laws. With Bauer's Solar Hybrid Bus Powering Sys...
Photo Hunt #49: Public transpo
2010-08-01 03:59:00
I've used this image before and I'm using it again for this week's theme. This is the mode of transportation in Phnom Penh - the ubiquitous motodops (motorbike-taxis), or simply motos. They are not that difficult to spot - there are thousands of them in the capital of Phnom Penh and they are all wearing baseball caps! Recently, baseball caps have been disallowed and motodop drivers are now required to wear crash helmets. Now if only they wear it properly...  But there's a few who still couldn't and wouldn't part of their beloved baseball caps... In your guess-timate, how many passengers are on this moto? Motodops don't only ferry people around town. They also transport goods... Express-delivery or both cargo and passengers.... ... in the province... ... and in the city.

Wordless Wednesday 085: Cyclo express
2010-04-27 11:28:00
Cyclo is a three-wheeled mode of transpo in most Indo-china countries. Do not underestimate the size of this cyclo. Not only can it carry a number of passengers, it could hold more than you could imagine! Here's another one up-close. It obviously takes a lot of endurance, stamina, and muscle-power, especially on legs, to push this three-wheeled vehicle and navigate around the crazy Phnom Penh traffic.

Wi-Drive: Eco-Chic Transportation Service For Executive Commuters
2009-05-19 01:07:00
As businesses work to bring more environmentally friendly alternatives to their operations, there's a necessity to reconsider traditional options to cater to a more elite crowd. While the average commuter might have no problem with taking public transportation by way of a city bus, commuter train or subway; it takes a little bit more persuasion to convince some executives to give up the comfort of their Mercedes for the more eco-friendly alternative. Following of a new San Francisco law that requires companies with 20 employees or more to offer incentives to encourage employees to choose ride-sharing programs or other forms of shared transportation; Wi-Drive, an eco-chic transportation option for business executives has been created.
Swine Flu Comign to Public Transportation Near You!
2009-04-30 20:01:00
As our "pandemic" really ratchets up, the Vice President urged Americans to shun public transportation. Fifteen states are now reporting confirmed cases. (MSNBC has a cool intereactive map to show you the states, cases, and outcomes...Click here) (THIS is the simliar world map of confirmed cases)I would go one step further and encourage Americans to be personally responsible and vigilant. Sure, regular seasonal flu kills more than this emerging virus has, but the fear (rightfully or not?) is that the virus could mutate to a more deadly version at any time. The more humans who are exposed, the greater the statistical chance that the virus could change and then become not only insanely easy to transmit, but also lethal.Seriously, to those nay-sayers out there, myself included...Think about this. Cases are confirmed as the appear. The reality of that is that MANY more will appear shortly. Those we are seeing reports of are the ones that have already passed the incubation period f...

Moving Services for Your Transportation
2009-03-09 13:35:00
Shifting to a new place often turns to be a nightmare. The more is the distance, the more are the worries. Finding suitable transportation services is a horrible task. If you choose a wrong shifting service, you are more likely to thrash your favorite possessions into danger. Often people go for fewer prices and by the way to find it, they end up damaging costlier things and wasting more beyond imagination. So be aware and do not just pick up any mover from the street just on the basis of lower price rates.   There are some tips for you that you can always follow to select the right relocating service to settle in a new place. Prior to getting in touch with any relocating service, you should have a complete list of the things to be moved along with the list of articles not to be moved. The number of things to be moved is important to decide the company as the trucks the company possesses should be consistent with your list of articles. If the list is higher, the company may not...

[BIOENERGY] Ethanol passes key transportation test
2008-10-17 06:48:00
Houston pipeline operator Kinder Morgan Energy Partners signaled progress Wednesday in addressing a key hurdle to widespread distribution of renewable fuels in the U.S. The company said it completed a test in Florida that moved ethanol safely through an existing gasoline pipeline and is performing similar tests with biodiesel fuel blends. The tests could be important for a U.S. biofuels industry that now transports fuel only by truck, rail car and barge, and will require more efficient transportation options as it grows.Kinder Morgan and other pipeline companies are still in the early stages of testing. Huge investments will be needed if the companies decide to ready more assets to handle biofuels, and upgrades could take years.Yet Kinder Morgan's moves suggest a willingness to explore the idea further.Pipeline operators have been reluctant to run ethanol in pipelines because it absorbs debris, rust and water, can damage components and taint petroleum fuels that share the lines. A New Way to Look at Public Transportation
2008-06-24 20:10:00
When we think of public transportation, images of crowded buses and cramped subways come to mind. And even though the public transit systems are better for the environment than everyone driving, they still produce emissions. However, a new design may change the way we look at transportation available to everyone. Garuda finally awarded IATA safety clearance
2008-05-29 12:24:00
Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has finally received safety clearance following a stringent audit conducted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), president director Emir Syah Satar said Thursday. "The IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) for Garuda was approved on May 14 and will be presented during the IATA annual general meeting in Istanbul on June 1-3," said Emir. "We expect the European Union to refer to the audit result during their session on flight ban in July." The EU has banned all Indonesian airlines from entering the bloc's airspace even though none of the airlines actually serve European routes. The government has proposed four airlines to be exempted from the flight ban. In addition to Garuda, the airlines are Mandala Airlines, which has committed to buying a large number of European Airbus jetliners, and chartered airlines Airfast and Premiair. Gas Pains
2008-05-29 06:01:00
It occurred to me the other day that back when I first started driving, I could earn enough to fill my tank by working one hour at my minimum-wage job. Now I make way more than minimum wage (which has also risen), and it takes me about five hours of work to fill my gas tank. Granted, I have a bigger gas tank now in the Mamamobile, but that because I'm supporting a family. I also figured I am driving a LOT less now than when I was a teenager running the roads just to see where they went. Now I'm going to get all sentimotional about those days... (sniff) Excuse me, I'm feeling somewhat verklempt. Take a moment and read these jokes, and I'll try to pull myself together. (update: in the two years since this was written, gas prices have soared. Now it takes ten hours of minimum wage work to fill the tank!) Find the cheapest gas prices in your city. If you don't live in a city, that's too bad! If that doesn't work, try this one. (Thanks, Beth!) Is it worth the extra gas to dr...
Jakarta-Cikampek toll fee up to 15 percent
2008-05-29 04:44:00
The Indonesian government has decided to raise the tariffs for a 72-kilometer toll road operated by state-run PT Jasa Marga by 11.7 percent to 15.0 percent, depending on the type of vehicles, Investor Daily reported on Thursday. The highest tariff hike for the toll road which links the capital Jakarta to Cikampek in West Java will be imposed on passenger vehicles with the fee raised to 11,500 rupiah ($1.23) from 10,000 rupiah previously. The increase will take effect on Friday, according to Nurdin Manurung, the head of Indonesia's toll regulatory body. Manurung said his office is also planning to raise the tariff on the toll road linking Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta airport, which is also operated by Jasa Marga.Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com-
Sunda Kelapa ideal for world-class port
2008-05-28 08:54:00
Architect Martono Yuwono has proposed the city establish a waterfront at Sunda Kelapa, North Jakarta, as a main port for the country. In his book Palapa Nusantara 2015: Kebangkitan Semangat Wawasan Bahari Jakarta (Palapa Nusantara 2015: The Awakening of Jakarta's Maritime Vision), Martono's vision of the waterfront includes an art academy, riverside shops, apartments and an office park. "Indonesia is known as the biggest maritime country in the world. Because of that, I'm offering a project called the Sunda Kelapa Waterfront to the government, especially to the Jakarta administration, to be the country's future main port," said Martono, also an official at the Jakarta Tourism Agency, at the book's launch Sunday. Martono said a number of major cities in the world, including Sydney, New York, Honolulu, Barcelona and Singapore, had turned their coastal areas into main gateways.
