Regen, Regen, Regen
2008-08-23 23:40:00
Techn...
Low bandwidth travel
2008-08-22 10:16:00
Whilst more and more of the world is getting wired to the broadest-band width, the places I often find myself seem to be less connected at slower rates. So here a few more tips and revisions about trying to travel and upload photos & blog.1) Turn off automatic updates (found under control panel). This avoids a really long delay before you can even get connected.2) Resize your photos, for blogs and to emails others, your photos only need a lower resolution and considerably smaller file size (eg 600 by 800 pixels is generally plenty) see earlier resizing post3) Use the no frills methods, the normal flickr web portal for your web browsers is a bandwidth nightmare (I just had a week of hell trying to use flickr in indonesia, usually  waiting 10 minutes plus just to load the log in page! Other times I get a flickr is taking to long to respond message or it crashing out my net connection. You can also access flickr via the mobile portal (http://m.flickr.com/) from any computer an...

Vermont Travel Ideas on Waymark . com
2008-08-19 04:18:00
I've been poking around the Waymarking.com website from time to time and enjoying what I have found. There are more than 1700 entries on 70 pages in the Waymarking Vermont category. I'm not sure what order everything is presented in. The Vermont listings start with covered bridges for no apparent reason so I suspect all the entries are posted in order that they are received. There is a good search function on the site so it should be easy for you to narrow your search. "Secret Waterfalls" The screen shot above shows a listing for "local secret" the Old City Falls waterfalls that sounds very inviting and larger than most of the falls in Vermont (first step of 25 feet and a second step of 20 feet). It is located near Stafford VT. We have what I would guess are a million waterfalls here but most of them are not large. I suppose most of them are a "secret " to folks from out of state but all are certainly well known to locals. Quite often they are part of popular local...
Maho Beach And Its Low Flying Planes.
2008-08-18 18:18:00
Maho Beach And Its Low Flying Planes.Maho Beach is known worldwide because of Princess Juliana International Airport that is situated adjacent to the beach. The Princess Juliana airport (the second busiest airport in the Eastern Caribbean) has a short runway - at only 2,180 meters which barely long enough for heavy jets to land. And hence the incoming airplanes approach the island on short final for Runway 09 and have to fly extremely low, resulting in very low altitudes on their final approach over the beach and passing only 10-20 meters (30-60 ft.) over relaxing tourists on the Maho Beach. And the low flying airplanes include large passenger airliners such as the Boeing 747, which in turn made the location very popular with plane spotters. And a matter of fact, when an airplane takes off from the runway 09, people standing on the beach can feel the pressure created by the jet and even can observe it on the water. It is one of the few places in the world as of 2008 where one can v...

Canada's Longest Footbridge. There are two footbridges over the canyon. Canada's longest footbridge extends an amazing 600 ft long across and is 152 ft above the ground. The other bridge spans 300 ft across the canyon and is 125 ft above the canyon floor. Eagle Canyon is a privately owned site near Ouimet Canyon, situated in Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park in Northwestern Ontario. In the Ouimet Canyon area, there are rare alpine flowers that are considered especially beautiful and arctic plants normally found 1000 km further north. One can view the beautiful unique surroundings from over the bridges. Flower Carpet.Grand-Place considered one of Europe's most beautiful squares, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the area larger than a football field, surrounded by ornate 17th-century buildings is carpeted every two years and the carpet is a floral carpet made entirely of fresh flowers. It's a major event for locals and tourists alike. The event only lasts for three days and this year's floral creation will be on show from Aug. 15-17, with workers arranging it on Aug. 14. According to the organizers, this year's design is "inspired from a real carpet from the 18th century made by the French factories la Savonnerie", a design which is expected to require a million begonias to complete and about 1000 people to create this impressive display of floral art. Travel Blogs
2008-08-13 06:51:00
Maria Celina Gallo I personally do not have a favourite type of travel-blog. Whether they belong to my fellow country people living in a foreign country, a foreigner writing about their experiences living in my hometown, a foreigner living in a foreign country or someone who is promoting their own country, I enjoy them all. All have their own merits. But all in all, I am inclined towards the message portrayed, not how a weblog post is physically made of (i.e. text and its length, images, video, sound clips, etc.). I believe the physicalities of how each post is presented is a reflection of the readers inclinations to giving out the intended message, and I do not believe in judging them for the best way the writer believes can send her/his message out.I believe that every country has merits, whether it be in the arts, music, literature, sight-seeing or a combination. Those merits should be promoted because it strengthens foreign relations and because I personally believe that we are ...

The Little House - Toronto's Smallest House.
2008-08-08 20:10:00
The Little House - Toronto's Smallest House. It's quite easy to miss the house at 128 Day Ave. It has a living area of just 300 square feet which was never meant to be actually a home at all. It was built by Aurthur Weeden in 1912 on a narrow strip of land that the city forgot to turn into a proper driveway. During the street's development, Lot 128 was supposed to be the laneway for the neighboring home. But when Old City Hall didn't cut the curb to allow vehicular passage from the street, Arthur Weeden decided to build a home in the existing space. Over the years, several different families inhabited the house and there were quite a few renovations and improvements. In the recent times too this house was for sale; with just under 300 square feet on a lot 7.25 feet (2.2 meters) wide and 113.67 feet (34.6 meters) long and was sold for $135,000 during the month of April 2007.
