Taiwan & Thailand
2008-07-12 17:28:00 I wrote up a quick entry for my last post as I was just about to hop on a plane to go to Taiwan and later Thailand. It seems I have returned from my tropical journey and all I can say is Sydney is damn cold! I really hate the cold, but I don't mind New York or Beijing kind of cold because at least that means 24 hour heating. Shanghai or Sydney cold isn't actually cold enough to have that kind of heating and using the air con non stop is such a waste of energy, and thus I am cold at home as well as cold outside. So I have to say I thoroughly loved my tropical holiday in Taiwan and Thailand. My first stop was Taipei, Taiwan where my family and I stayed for 2 days. We went to the Night Markets on the first night which was a lot of fun. The Night Markets are just roads of small food, clothes and accessories stalls. Bargaining is a must there, but you can't bargain off a lot though since they prices are already quite cheap. I was trying to put on a Taiwanese accent while bargaining but...

The joy of travelling
2008-06-26 16:31:00 Thought of the Day: ?Traveling is not just seeing the new; it is also leaving behind. Not just opening doors; also closing them behind you, never to return. But the place you have left forever is always there for you to see whenever you shut your eyes.? They say "life is like a dance" - There is passion, pain, hate, anger, love and many other emotions. Life like a dance cannot always be soft and tender, and neither can it be powerful and strong. The perfect dance empowers both the tender and the strong. And so the "perfect life"....What is it? There are few places that you have to go that you won't know how to get to as long as you own a GPS. Tell it where you want to go, punch in the co-ordinates and off you go. Some people might wish that life were the same... But what kind of dance would that be? thought du jour Note about the photo: MISC. RAMBLINGS HERE The past few days, I've been spending my time packing. I've accepted a position in Nevada, Las Vegas and in a few sh...
Japan Exchange Q&A
2008-06-08 17:52:00 Many people have been asking me about my 2006 exchange program to Japan as well as my up and coming 2008 exchange to Japan, so I've decided to compile some of the questions and just answer them here in one go. If you have anymore questions, you can comment or email me at beijingbaby11@gmail.com.Just a little background, I did my 2006 exchange to Numazu, Japan as a high school exchange student and I'm going to Keio University in Tokyo as a University exchange student in September this year.Q: Did you finish high school in Australia before you went on your 2006 exchange?A: Yes, I finished high school in Sydney (end of 2005), then I deferred my university placement and went on exchange to a Japanese high school in Numazu (March 2006-January 2007). When I returned the next year, I began my university studies in Sydney (March 2007).Q: What problems did you face when you were there?A: Apart from the normal problematic situations like missing my friends and family I also felt felt that m...

Travelling With My Laptop
2008-06-07 02:58:00 Now that my trip to the Philippines is getting closer, I am finalizing the things I need to bring with me. So most of today was spent folding up, ironing clothes and organizing thing in our luggages. Then I thought about my laptop. I do need to get a case for it, so it's well-protected in my luggage. I can't use it on the plane or anytime during the trip so it won't be on the carry-on bag. My hands are going to be full with my two little ones the entire trip.

Have you given any thought to how you?ll take your holiday money with you?
2008-05-29 11:17:00 If you’re like most people I’m sure you’ve hardly gotten beyond thinking that you’ll either get a few hundred from the travel agent or perhaps just use a card when you get there. In the first case, you’ll end up spending a small fortune un-necessarily and in the second you could be stuck without any money. ...
Thinking about northern Mexico
2008-05-28 21:33:00 When I think about a vacation in Mexico, it seems to me that it’s the type of place that you need to settle into to really make the best of your time there. For me that rules out a hotel type trip as that always seems to be (often quite literally) a flying visit and ...

Laptop Rentals Can Help Assure Data Security When Travelling Overseas on Bu
2008-05-07 17:47:00 A recent court decision from Los Angeles' Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals should give business travellers pause to consider whether they would not be well advised to pick up a laptop rental before travelling overseas on business and returning their computer rental when they get back from doing business overseas. The Court's ruling that United States Customs and Border Patrol agents have unfettered power to search laptops in airports - including opening every file on the hard drive - should give business travellers returning to the U.S. from overseas (including even Canada and Mexico) pause to consider whether they wish to have sensitive or proprietary business files on their every workaday laptop opened and subjected to scrutiny by relative strangers. Not to be alarmist, but the information on business files - whether in respect to information that needs to be shielded from competitors or strategic information about possible mergers or acquisitions - is always prone to "seepage" i...

Travelling Out of Town
2008-05-01 23:44:00 Whenever my husband and I travel out of town, or out of state, 90% of the time we just use a car rental service rather than use our own car. I think that it's easier on our car, especially if we're travelling for days. Like, our last travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida from Dallas, Texas we just rented a car. With two small kids, we find it easier to travel by car than by plane and in order to rent a car cheap, we usually check out special offers and discounts like the ones offered by Advantage.

2008-04-23 14:29:00 Wow I know it's been about a zillion years since I last blogged but I've been so caught up with Uni, work and friends I've barely had time to sit down in front of my computer.Loads have happened during the past month. I know I sounded like I was whining about going to Keio University instead of Peking University in my last post but now I'm extremely extremely happy that I'm going to Keio. It was such a challenge to get into (a Professor had to even vouch for me) and I definitely won't be taking this chance for granted. Having said that I also get to go to Beijing and study an intensive Chinese course at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) for 4 weeks right before I go to Japan for my 6 month exchange. So I kind of ended up with the best of both worlds. The only thing is, some of my best girlfriends are leaving for Japan in the beginning of July for a 3 week holiday which means they miss my 21st birthday!!! Travelling Shorts
2008-03-26 12:50:00 Met up with the Ex-Fuck Buddy for coffee. He picked me up after work. Or at least tried to. When I had finished my eight hours of elongated boredom and was looking forward to the smell of nice freshly roasted coffee beans, his car failed to start. We had to push-start the car, but he had parallel-parked and there wasn't enough space. Fortunately the road was next to a spacious lawn. His drives a tiny two-seater convertible roadster (I always wondered how he manages to fit his lanky six-foot-three frame into it with so much ease) so firstly we pushed the vehicle off the road and onto the grass. Well, he mostly pushed, whilst I fussed about doing 'hard labour' in my new shiny patent leather t-bar heels.Obviously I wasn't prepared to do any physical work. His car was a manual so much time was spent introducing me to the clutch. A vehicle does not need that many foot pedals. It's a mode of transport, not a piano. But then even my piano only has two foot-pedals...So he started pushi...

Shanghai Baby!
2008-03-20 13:30:00 I know I'm really late with my China posts but you have to realize I'm sloth lazy.As you know I spent a few weeks in Suzhou just hanging out but since it was snowing so hard for the first time in like 85 years, I didn't get to go out as much as I would have liked. Besides there are only two relatively good malls in Suzhou: Taihua (which has almost completed the construction of Suzhou's first Louis Vuitton store) and the Matro shopping mall on Guan Qian Jie (the only shopping street in Suzhou). The real shopping fun began when my cousin Oli, his best friend David and I headed for Shanghai (about an hour drive from Suzhou). We only spent a day there and let me tell you what an exhausting day it was. We managed to shop in over five malls and a mega Zara store and spent a combined total of 20000RMB ($3125AUD).There are definitely some excellent malls and department stores in Shanghai, and since I'm terrible at remembering names I can't tell you what they were called but all you rea...

Travelling Alone in Life
2008-03-07 12:05:00 Most of time, in life we all remain in the search of good people, friends, husbands, wives etc. Though, most of the time we also find many good people during the journey of our lives, however, after some years, we realise that no relation remains constant forever in this world. With time, people change and their expectations from us change, similarly, we also change and our expectations from others also change. Many times, these changes leads to following separate paths in life journey, therefore, we again find ourselves in alone state. Second, we also remain in the risk of becoming dependable on these people and when they leave us we find ourselves in the very difficult situation. These situations can have different effect on the life of different people but at some time in life, we all face pain of separation. Therefore, most of the saints from across the world advice people to follow the path of travelling alone in life.
