Do travel brands matter to you?
2008-04-02 16:00:00
Are you loyal to any travel brands?  I began to wonder about this issue as I wrote my post about the citizenM concept hotel for Wandalust today.  I suppose I can only answer for myself.  My greatest travel brand loyalty probably lies with the Travelodge budget hotel chain.  This is mostly based on price as ...

It’s official the UK has the most expensive hotel rates in the whole of Europe. The highest increase in rates were both in Scotland, with an average annual increase of hotel prices in Aberdeen of 34% and 21% in Inverness. The average nightly price of a hotel room in the UK now stands ...

Travelodge/Submarine plan vanishes...(or sinks without trace)
2008-02-07 21:39:00
We were going to write about this in depth (approximately 4 fathoms), especially after David Jones' gushing article in last week's Glossop Chronicle. But it seems that Cllr Anthony McKeown has told us that Shepherd Developments has withdrawn it's plan for a Submersible Travelodge in Hadfield, presumably now that the Environment Agency have objected once again. So for now, we can only sit back and smile at David Jones' blurb saying that High Peak Borough Council is 'committed to promoting Glossop as a holiday destination' - yes, lots of people want to stay at a 'luxury' hotel that is slap bang next to a huge roundabout & main road (Glossop Spur) and not far from a load of ugly grey industrial development (Etherow & Rossington Park). Lots of business people needing a stop off a (soon to be) motorway on their way to somewhere else that is...There's little doubt that Shepherd Developments will re-submit their application again - this project is pinned to hopes that the G...

£9 room Summer sale at Travelodge UK
2007-12-28 14:28:00
Travelodge launch their lowest ever room rate of £9 per night today. You do have to book at least 6 months in advance, by 31 January 2008, on the non refundable rate but I still think it’s a great deal considering their rooms can sleep up to 2 adults and 2 kids. Not all Travelodges are ...
Pet pester power influences travel plans
2007-12-07 20:40:00
It’s reckoned that the UK domestic travel industry could reap the rewards if it can cater to pet pester power and encourage bookings from owners who’d rather take their beloved pets away with the family. There are 49 million pets in the UK, almost matching the human population. Pet travel in the UK is ...

2007-12-04 13:21:00
The lastest addition to the Travelodge family opens in Haymarket, close to Edinburgh city centre on 14 December 2007. It’s a good location close to Haymarket rail station and the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. I couldn’t find any information about parking on the Travelodge site but I’m pretty certain that you’ll have to pay ...
Travelodge - you let me down
2007-11-21 12:06:00
As a fan of Travelodge, I was very disappointed by the room in which I stayed at the Stirling Travelodge earlier this week. The bathroom ceiling of room 26 was mouldy and covered in brown spots. Bathroom ceiling of room 26, Stirling Travelodge Now I have to admit that I checked in late after a long ...
Hotels in Britain See Rise in Nude Sleepwalkers
2007-10-25 20:35:00
According to reports Travelodge, who is Britain’s largest budget hotel, has seen a rise in nude sleepwalkers, which has led the hotels to train the staff to handle this type of situation.  Travelodge currently runs over 300 business hotels in Britain, and said that in the past year their reports of sleepwalking have increased seven-fold. The ...
Travelodge price increase but doubling of available rooms
2007-10-25 15:15:00
I noticed this week that my favourite budget accommodation option Travelodge has increased the price of its Saver rooms from £26 to £29, an increase of around 10%. While I’ve never a fan of price increases this one could have a silver lining as they have doubled the number of rooms available on this ...

2007-10-11 20:04:00
Sometimes you just need a convenient, cheap but clean and comfortable place to stay for the night. Maybe it’s an overnight stop on a journey or a budget leisure break. Travelodge is the perfect solution especially if you can plan in advance. If you can book at least three weeks in advance and ...
British couple lives in Travelodge for over 20 years
2007-09-12 11:49:00
The Davidson's have a rather interesting living arrangement, they have lived in a Travelodge motel for the past 22 years. The 79-year-old David and 70-year-old Jean apparently discovered this grand idea while they were visiting an ill relative in 1985. Now in the 22 years they've lived there, which makes up most of my life by the way, I've stayed in a few of the US based Travelodge locations. Needless to say, I've never thought about homesteading and taking up residence at on our their locations. There's a few other chains with very nice suites however that may merit such a rash life style change however. Speaking of suites, in honor of their 10 year anniversary at the Grantham location, they are renaming their room the Davidson Suite as well as placing a plaque in the lobby. They lived the previous 12 years at the Newark Travelodge. Whenever they travel, they also stay at a Travelodge. Kind of sad in a way...I thought that was the whole point of a vacation? Here's a few...
Where do they build Travelodges?
2007-07-26 23:58:00
If anyone has any doubts that Hadfield is doomed and Oldham & the Highways Agency want a motorway through Longdendale, all they need to do is go to High Peak Borough Council's planning website. There they will find a planning application (full plans can be downloaded) for a 40-bed Hotel, alongside the point the Glossop Spur is supposed to join the A57. The Hotel will have 120 car parking spaces and measure 1525 square meters in floorspace. It will have 15 employees, and feature a bar and restaurant (both separate, i.e. like a Little Chef or Burger King at Travelodge hotels), and will be open 24 hours a day.Sound familiar? If you've every visited a Travelodge or similar hotel, this fits the description. And why build such a place? Well, you find them at the end of motorways or alongside major dual carriageways or similarly very busy roads. What's surprising is that outline planning permission was granted in 1999, and renewed in 2004. The current plan has been under 'consultation'...
One up for Travelodge
2007-02-27 17:47:03
I?ve been away for a few days. Our destination was Norfolk in the east of England but as we live in the north of England we spent a night in the Scotch Corner Travelodge on the way south to Norfolk and a night at the Harrogate Travelodge on the way north again. The Travelodges cost a non refundable £15 per night for room only Supersaver rate, if you book at least 3 weeks in advance. The rooms were a good size, clean and simply furnished. The Travelodge in Harrogate is in the town centre, a great location the only drawback being lack of a free car park at the Travelodge. Our accommodation in Norfolk cost of £65 for a double room with breakfast. As you can see from the photo below the hotel, the Lodge Hotel in old Hunstanton looks very attractve on the exterior. It is a listed building, a former Dower House which has retained some period features. However when we entered our room it was as though we were in a different building. Our room was small, totally lacking in charm or charact...
