Delicious Summer Mango-Strawberry Trifle
2008-06-10 20:00:00
The Mango Mania in Maharashtra is something that words simply cannot describe . Alphonso or Haapus: The King of Mangoes is the one that grabs all the limelight and quite rightly so.There is a palpable excitement in the air at the arrival of the Alphonso which makes an appearance in the markets in small numbers at the start of the season (which is from end March to May) . On it's arrival it is quite expensive. But by the time the harvest peaks it is all over the place and can be bought in large quantities though I would say the price is never really as low as that of other other ordinary fruit like apples and bananas. It?s sweetness and flavour go way beyond the word ?delicious? and is truly a ?Slice of Heaven on Earth?.The Alphonso takes it?s name from Afonso De Albuquerque : a Portuguese sailor who brought this exquisite and expensive variety of mango to Goa. The locals took to calling it Aphoos in Konkani and in Maharashtra the pronunciation further changed to Hapoos. At my mom's...

2007-11-12 18:10:00
'Just around the corner,There's a rainbow in the sky.So let's have another cup o' coffee,And let's have another piece o' pie.'Irving Berlin, 1932'COFFEE IN A TRIFLE'...Here starts a brand new week of coffee opportunities. This happens to me every November, when coffee is my favourite ingredient in my month of the 'Scorpio'! In my words, there are very few things that I would attach an 'automatic-droolamatic' quotient to. One of them is this...'Coffee in a Trifle' as I choose to call it, which I made up as I went along the way. Baked a coffee flavoured sponge this morning, for a birthday cake later this week. Nicked some crumbs from the cake, layered it with coffee flavoured whipped cream...attained nirvana in the first bite! This is a must for serious coffee lovers, and recommended for those who would like a change from chocolate. The flavour of coffee grows on you...my kids stand testimony to that! They hungrily lap up my coffee flavoured creations, savouring every l...

Trifle croccante all'Ananas
2007-04-18 12:43:00
Wikipedia dice:A trifle is a British dessert dish made from thick (or often solidified) custard, fruit, sponge cake, fruit juice or, more recently, jelly (gelatin), and whipped cream. These ingredients are usually arranged in layers with fruit and sponge on the bottom, and custard and cream on top.
Shanny Not To Be Trifled With
2007-03-06 18:10:01
Is there any coach out there more vindictive than Mike Shanahan?  Screw with him and prepare to face the wrath.   Yesterday, Shanny thought the he had rid the team of the Jake Plummer situation by trading him to Tampa Bay.  Plummer, a western U.S. guy his entire life wasn't enamored by going to the right coast, and jumping right into the type of QB controversy that he faced last season with the Broncos.  Instead, Plummer leaked word that he would retire, nullifying the deal. There was much speculation that Plummer was retiring to try and control where his next football stop would be, specifically Houston, with olf friend Gary Kubiak.  If Plummer could force the Broncos hand, perhaps Kub's would baiil him out.  I never thought that was the case, but it made for quite the story line. Mike Shanahan is fiercely loyal, but will also make the tough decisions needed to keep the Broncos at the cusp of the Super Bowl.  The decision to replace Plummer, ...

An 8 out of 10 Trifle
2007-01-01 18:45:02
I can confirm that the trifle ? homemade ? is alive and kicking! Forget those dreadful synthetic things that are re-hydrated with some boiling water and then layered up over several weeks before serving. My mum would always serve these trifles and I hated them?awful soggy sponge, the out-of-place jelly and dream topping scattered with Hundreds and Thousands (ok, so the kitsch lover in me can forgive those). The perverse thing is that these chemical trifles always, without absolute fail, were a massive hit at whatever celebration my mum was making them for: birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries ? they were the gaudy centrepiece and the most eagerly anticipated dessert of all. Me, I would be stuck with a bowl of ice cream because ?I?m not making two desserts just because you don?t like trifle, everyone else likes trifle.? It would suit me just fine to nurse a bowl of vanilla ice cream whilst everyone tucked into the mish-mash of jelly, sponge and synthetic cream.I think what people love...
Blog Event XVI Beeren: Brombeertrifle mit weißer Schokolade
2006-09-15 18:00:04
