Tuesday Morning Trivia
2008-05-13 12:45:00
The trivia idea seems to have been well received, so it is going to become a Tuesday morning staple. The only problem I think I had last week was that I made the questions way too easy. Well I think that has changed. This time not only will there be 4 players that you have to identify, but there will be at least  1 extra credit bonus question for you to ponder. So without further ado... Player 1- I was drafted by the Bills, and played for the Dolphins as well during my short career. - While playing at Virginia Tech, I won the Lombardi and Bronco Nagurski awards.- I was the first player ever to win the Big East defensive player of the year award two years in a row, and the first to do so unanimously, which I did in ’98 and ’99.- I recorded a record 17 sacks in’99 and finish with a total of 31 over the two year span, from ’98 to ’99.Player 2- I set the combine record of 52 reps at 225 pounds in the bench press, a record that still stands.- I spent 2 ...
Bills Trivia: Who am I?
2008-05-07 20:15:00
OK, Rumblers - time for a fun exercise to find out how many of you really know your Bills. Here is how this works: I'll give you 4 clues about a player, who at some point played football for the Buffalo Bills. They could be retired, they could have played for less than a single season, they may still be active, but all of them at some point or another donned the red white and blue of the Buffalo Bills. There are no prizes, just plain and simple bragging rights to the first to give all 4 correct answers. Since this is the first one I'm doing I'm going to include a bonus player. And go... Player 1: -I was drafted in the 6th round of the 1990 NFL draft out of Northern Iowa. -I was the 1995 defensive player of the year and a 4 time pro-bowler. -I have 75 career sacks and 6 career interceptions. -I retired as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.   Player 2: -I was the first round pick of the Bills in 1986 NOT named Ronnie Harmon. -I am the majority owner of the Arena Football 2 Lo...

Kissing trivia
2008-04-10 06:24:00
A kiss before dying? You really want to know? A little bit scary right? But the fact is the final kiss between John Lennon and Yoko Ono (he is naked, she is fully clothed in black) could have well been the one feature on the cover of rolling stone magazine in 1980. It was taken by Annie Leibovitz just hours before Lennon?s murder. Err?rest in peace dude.I laugh when I read about the funny and unforgettable kissing trivia when this incident happened at Brazil in 1991, when one Djalma dos Santos got more than a standard tongue lashing from his girlfriends when she bit off a chunk of his tongue and SWALLOWED it after she discover he was married! At a loss for words, he wrote a note for police. Roughly translated from the Portuguese, it said he was well and truly kissed off. So guys, be careful with your girlfriend now, maybe you should prohibited tongue kissing@ French kiss? Hihi

Sunday Trivia Answer
2008-03-17 16:02:00
With yesterday's celebration of Palm/Passion Sunday, the church has entered into the time known as Holy Week. It is undoubtedly the most important week in the life of the church, and has been for centuries. Yet where and when does it come from? The celebration of Easter, the Christian pasch, is probably as old as the church itself. We have records that talk about the church's celebration of the resurrection of our Lord at least back to the 2nd century, and the controversies around the dating of Easter are some of the first controversies in the church. Yet, Easter alone does not make a Holy Week. It was the addition of Good Friday and Maundy Thursday which began what we would call Holy Week - and once they were added, they remained a central part of the Christian year ever since. We cannot say exactly when the celebration of Holy Week began. But the first record of the celebration come from the late fourth/early fifth century. It was the Spanish nun Egeria who made a pilgrimag...

Sunday Trivia: Answer
2008-03-10 15:00:00
Well, you all assumed, that Art hit this one on the head in the first response to the question - and he was remarkably close, but just a little off. March 23rd is the second earliest calendar date possible for Easter. Easter is, as many of you know, based on the Lunar calendar (rather than the solar calendar, which is the basis for our calendar) and falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring equinox.Easter last fell on March 23 in 1913. The last time it fell on March 22 was 1818.Art had correct that Easter will fall on March 23rd in 2228 - however, it will be on the 23rd one other time before then, in 2160. It will not be not fall on March 22 until 2285. (This site lists all the dates of Easter from 1700-2299).Tip of the hat to Hal for sending me this info.

Tonight, Madonna, John Mellencamp, the Ventures, the Dave Clark Five, Leonard Cohen, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and Little Walter all go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For some, it was a quick trip. For others, a long road.Madonna made it in on her first nomination in her first year of eligibility. Leonard Cohen also made it on his first nomination, but that nod was long in coming as he has been eligible since 1993. The Ventures are also in on their first nomination, but they've been eligible since the Hall's inception in 1986.The Dave Clark Five have been eligible since 1989, but only received nominations in 2006, 2007 and 2008.John Mellencamp has been eligible since 2004, but it took three nominations (2004, 2006 & 2008) to get elected.Gamble and Huff and Little Walter are in on non-performing and sidemen nods, so they were not included in the general nomination/election process. As a salute to tonights ceremony, here's a few other facts about elected and non-electe...

Trivia Night
2008-02-20 03:13:00
Over the past few months, I have become a regular at Monday night trivia. I am part of an excellent team, which is a good thing since I provide very little in terms of quality answers. Last night, our team finished in second place just one point away from victory. I feel somewhat responsible for our first place loser status since I dissuaded our team from answering a question correctly. The question was something like what woman?s dress sold for over $1.2 million at a 1999 auction, the most expensive auction dress ever. I?ll give the answer in the comments, along with what I said to convince my teammates. If we got that 2-point question correct, we would have won.Anyway, since I don?t have much else to write today, I thought I would share one of the rounds to see how you can do and if you are worthy to join the team if you happen to be in Bethesda, Maryland on a Monday night. Valentine’s Day Trivia
2008-02-07 05:18:00
How did Valentine’s Day originate? The holiday has evolved from Roman mythology to a religious holiday to a day of celebrating love. Romans had the feast of Lupercalia, named after Lupercus, the god of fertility. It happened every year in February and had many parts. There was a sacrificial slaughtering of goats and young dogs, both known for their strong sexual instincts. The sacrifice was to please Lupercus. If the god was happy, he would spare their sheep from his wolves. Another piece of the celebration was the tradition of matching young couples. Each teen boy would choose a girl’s name from a lottery. The two would be paired up for the festivities and remain sexual partners for the following year. This too was done trusting that it was the will of the gods. Also during that era, February 14th was a celebration of Juno, queen of the Roman gods and goddesses, and had nothing in common with Valentine’s Day other than sharing the date.Much later, in the early days of Christia...

Hair-Raising Trivia about Men's Hair
