Fue clasificado por el zoólogo y físico alemán [[Carolus Linnaeus]] en 1758. Para cocinarlos, lo mejor es pasarlos por agua caliente y sal y agregarles un poco de limón. También es usado para hacer los "vuelve a la vida", preparaciones en las que se combina distintos moluscos, ají dulce, cilantro, limón, salsa de tomate y picante. Los arrechones están en peligro de extinsión, debido a la recolección indiscriminada y la inexistencia, por lo menos, en Venezuela. Para los que no sabían, pueden leer y ver el video de esta noticia en EuroNews, de la semana pasada:El volcán Stromboli sigue expulsaldo lava, tras entrar en erupción en la tarde de ayer. La pequeña isla italiana de Stromboli, cercana a Sicilia, está en alerta desde entonces, aunque de momento Protección Civil no prevé una evacuación. Eso sí, como medida de precaución las autoridades han invitado a sus 450 habitantes y a los de las vecinas islas de Panarea y Lipari a alejarse de la costa. El mayor temor es que esta erupción pueda provocar un maremoto, tal y como sucedió en diciembre de 2002.
