History Channel's "Ice Road Truckers" Returns
2009-06-01 00:23:00
Please don't forget Season 3 Premiers tonight on the History channel. The new season is filmed in Alaska, and features 2 returning drivers (Hugh & Alex) as well as 6 new drivers. In Prudhoe Bay, a network of ice roads in the tundra crisscross river systems & open ocean to connect America?s booming North Slope oil fields to dry land. Every winter truckers have less than three months to shuttle critical supplies over the ice. There?s only one way to get to this remote location: 400 miles of ice-covered, mountainous terrain known as The Dalton Highway. This is a great show about men who do what most want just to make extra money. If you haven't seen the show now is the time to go out, and buy the DVDs. Dont forget 9pm/8C.

Ice Road Truckers Season 2 Review
2008-05-31 17:41:00
Last season we say the Ice Road Truckers at Yellowknife in Canada. This season all the rules have changed. Some of your favorite truckers from season one are back along with new ones. This time the Ice road is the Arctic Ocean. The truckers are hauling equipment, and supplies to gas exploration sites. Temperatures can be as low as 60 below here. The difference on this road is drivers have to drive faster, and carry heaver loads. Last season's favorite Hue Rowland (aka Polar bear) is back, and he hasn't seen this road in 20 years. Driving on any ice road in any condition are treacherous to any driver even experienced. What these truckers do besides the money they can make is such a great endurance. To do what they do with the risk is beyond me as to why they do it, but that makes you want to watch it even more. Yellowknife is nothing compared to this road that they will have to endure. Inuvik is the gateway to the toughest ice road these truckers will see. The Goodbyes are always h...

Winki Roundup: M83/Ruby Suns/Drive-By Truckers/Flight Of the Conchords
2008-05-05 09:54:00
Drive By Truckers have been simulating and developing Southern rock for a couple of years now, and Brighter Than Creations Dark – their fresh release is no exception. An acoustic start like “Two Daughters And A Beautiful Wife” comes as sterilized as any country and blues thing and then the real deal begins. I personally prefer the country side of Drive By Truckers when then get down on a wonderful 2 minute track as simple as “Bob” but I guess that’s just not what they are about. Their music is better described in “The Righteous Path”, a very Bryan Adams style rock ‘n roll soulful work or a more Mick Jagger-ish tune like“3 Dimes Down”. What’s fun about Brighter Than Creation’s Dark is the duration. The Southern rock ‘n roll goes on for 75 minutes and if you’re attending anything live by the Drive-By's, don’t hesitate because they’re pretty good at it.MP3 Download: Drive By Truckers - Bob For all the music folks who enjoyed the way Gruff Rhys (Super...

As gas around the US hit an average of $3.66 per gallon--a full 66 cents above the price this time last year--truckers called on the US government to take action. For more information, see: The Unknown Candidate: Force Congress to Impeach Bush/Cheney: Step One Technorati tags: Truckers Union, Protest, Strike, Energy Policy, Iraq War, Impeachment

America Troubled Times High Gas Prices, Losing Homes, Truckers Not Trucking
2008-04-23 17:11:00
Things are getting so crazy and scary at this moment in America. The president does not even realize how bad things are getting today. The gas prices are so high makes everything go up. Like the cost of living and paying more for groceries. Now people are losing homes because can afford to pay the mortgage. Truckers are not trucking because can?t afford to the gas without them we don?t get the food to the stores. Then airlines have gone out of business because of the gas prices. We are in troubled times the president needs to step up and be a leader. He need to start helping the American people and talk to oil companies. Although all this going on right now it is like president does not even seem to notice. People ask him questions about the economy Bush says it is getting better. The truth is it the economy is it getting worse. In reality, he has caused all this by his stupid ideas and decisions on everything during his presidency. He should talk to the American people right now ab...
BioTrucker card helps NBB get more biodiesel to truckers
2008-03-30 19:52:00
Thank in part to Willie Nelson and Carl's Corner, long haul truckers were some of the first big proponents of biodiesel in America. The new BioTrucker Fuel Card will not only help eco-ready truckers to find service stations that sell the biofuel, but can also save them at least a little bit at the pump. BioTrucker, a National Biodiesel Board website, is now offering the card that is accepted at over 5,000 "truck stops and truck accessible locations" in the U.S. Three stations (Sapp Bros. Travel Centers in Peru Illinois, Waddy Unocal 76 in Waddy, Kentucky, and Drivers Truck Stop in Ft. Worth, Texas) discount biodiesel two cents a gallon for BioTrucker Fuel Card holders. At the other locations, the card can be used to pay for fuel at the cash price (no credit mark up). Card holders can also get other benefits like the ProMiles route planning software and repair and tire discounts. [Source: BioTrucker via Environment News Service]

The Great “American” Truckers shutdown 2008
2008-03-28 05:39:00
Having lived through the ones in the 70’s and 80’s, the last one in 1984, I believe, still hanging around the back of my mind, the whole idea of any type of job action is the ultimate in stupidity. Anyone remember the “kowboys” blocking the entrance to the truck stops, such as the old Union 76 in Ontario California, and threatening drivers unless they gave their assurances they were coming in to park and join the “strike”? I sure do! Remember hauling the freight with a sign on the back of your trailer saying “On Strike! Going Home”? I remember that too. Been there and done it! Anyone remember the shots fired at the big trucks, the 5th wheels pulled, the driver that was killed in Smith’s Grove NC by a brick thrown from an overpass by someone not remotely associated with the trucking industry? Fresh in my mind! Are we ready for more of the same? We’ve had idiots calling the overnight talk shows making those threats all week, ...

Truck accident must be one of the most severe mishaps on the road. It in fact accounts for the most serious fatalities. Imagine a large freight carrier slamming on your car? Mexican Truckers No Habla Ingles
2008-03-18 13:32:00
This story is a couple days old, but, went searching for it after hearing a Captital Hill reporter discussing the issue on 680-WPTF this am at wake up time. One More Roadblock for Mexican Truckers
2008-03-16 05:45:00
Estadounidense bureaucrats have ants in their pants once again over the matter of allowing Mexican truckers to traverse the highways and byways of Los Estados Unidos. First, there was the fret and worry over how safe those trucks might be. Would Mexican truckers be able to live up to the code of professional Estadounidense truckers? Now, they're in a dither about how well Mexican truckers will be able to speak and understand the English language. Mexico Trucker, a English-language blog devoted to Mexican trucking issues, takes on the matter of the mother tongue. Thousands of Mexicans drive to Los Estados Unidos every year, and thousands to Estadounidenses drive to Mexico every year. None of them are required to prove proficiency in a language other than their own. There are states in Los Estados Unidos which will administer driver's license exams in languages other than English, and even the Internal Revenue...

Independent Truckers Being Run Over by Fuel Prices
2008-03-03 15:36:00
msnbc: Trucker Robert Griffith is on the road three weeks out of four, pulling oversize loads like crane booms, railroad ties and air conditioning ducts. One of his biggest worries: How he’ll find the money to buy his daughter a prom dress. As the cost of diesel doubled over the last four years, his take-home pay has plummeted, from $50,000 to $11,000 last year. He’s literally burning money; he spent $64,000 on diesel in the last eight months. Since he canceled his satellite radio, he’s on citizens band radio constantly (handle: Instigator) talking about what needs to change so truckers like him can survive. Trucking’s owner-operators, the self-employed drivers who haul everything from Hummers to hay, are suffering. Many say they’re running on the edge of bankruptcy, about to disappear unless they get help. While a wave of trucking failures now might be invisible to consumers, when the economy rebounds, it would push up shipping rates, helping increase...

How Truckers and Brokers Can Use Freight Factoring Posted By : Kris Koonar
2008-01-09 06:45:00
A freight factoring company is one, which will "buy" your freight invoice off from you. They will now be responsible to collect payments from your customers. You will get the invoice amount in 2 installments. The tax laws can be incredibly complicated to understand, especially for the Small Business Owner like yourself. How can you be expected to run your business AND keep up with all the tax rules and regulations? That's why over the years I've discovered many tax-saving strategies that will reduce your tax bill each and every year. These "strategies" are not difficult to understand, nor are they hard to implement.

2007-12-22 03:00:00
The EPA and Accion (a non-profit organisation in New York and New Jersey) have created a partnership to provide long-haul truckers with microloans with special conditions. The agreement comes under EPA's SmartWay program, which aims to reduce pollution generated by road freight. With these microloans, truckers will be able to improve long-haul trucks by acquiring the SmartWay Upgrade Kit. What's in the kit? Well, ways to reduce idling, add low rolling resistance tires, move to advanced aerodynamics, and upgrade the truck's exhaust after-treatment devices. This will allow truckers to reduce emissions and spend less money on fuel. Unhealthy truckers try to shape up
2007-11-13 13:38:00
Truck drivers — the people who deliver our food, cars and clothing — have one of the most dangerous jobs in America — accounting for nearly 15 percent of U.S. work-related deaths. And that’s only counting the accidents. They are also more at risk than average Americans for a number of health problems. Obesity is rampant. Many don’t bother to wear seatbelts because their stomachs get in the way. About one in four have sleep apnea. Half of them smoke. The latest research in an upcoming report drives home those points and may help influence government regulations for truck drivers’ health, which are under review. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is considering tightening its rules for conditions including diabetes and high blood pressure. And many companies are stepping up their own efforts at improving health. “It takes a while to undo years and years and years of unhealthy behavior,” said Christie Cullinan of the American...
Businesses, Truckers feel pain of higher Diesel prices
2007-11-13 11:36:00
Linda Dague is offering free shipping to entice customers to order from her 2-year-old company, which sells clothing and other items for premature babies. Lately, Dague has started to question her decision. Shipping costs have risen 20% in the last year and look likely to rise even more. That has put pressure on her margins. “The way shipping is going, it’s a fine line between making money and losing money,” says Dague, president of Colorado Springs-based Anna’s, which was named after her granddaughter, Aurianna, who was born prematurely and just celebrated her 12th birthday. Diesel prices have surged in recent weeks to record levels, putting a strain on truck drivers, businesses and, potentially, the economy, at a time when economic activity is already slowing. The nationwide average price for a gallon of diesel was $3.30 last week, breaking the previous record set following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Energy Department said. That was up nearly 15 cents...
Grant helps Missoula firm train more Truckers
2007-11-13 10:50:00
As a shortage of truck drivers looms nationwide, Watkins and Shepard Trucking will use a $315,000 state grant to offer reduced tuition at its truck-driving school. The award from the Montana Department of Commerce will allow the Missoula-based company to train and employ 63 newly created truck-driving positions. It enables Watkins and Shepard to remove one of the significant barriers to people wanting to come into the industry — training costs, said Ray Kuntz, chief executive officer of Watkins and Shepard. The normal tuition of $4,000 will be reduced to $1,000. New students will only have to pay $250 down to start and the remaining $750 is repaid over one year at a rate of $15 per week. All Watkins and Shepard students are prescreened so they have a guaranteed job offer in hand when they start training. In the last 24 months Watkins and Shepard has trained and employed 71 Montanans through its basic commercial motor-vehicle operator training course. Kuntz said truck driving is co...
