Godiva truffles, dark chocolate
2008-07-03 06:55:00
We recently ordered Godiva chocolates from Macy's website because they were 50% off. Well, guess what, they took about a week to get here, and when we finally received them, they were all melted. So we went to the Macy's store and exchanged them. Each box of chocolate was priced $2-$3 higher than Macy's online. I love these limited edition truffles. They are so delicious.dark chocolate

Dark chocolate truffles
2008-03-14 22:26:00
I have just finished reading The Great Chocolate Book by David Lebovitz, the book lives up to it's title, it is a great book and it's by one of my favourite Bloggers too.The book tells you everything you could ever want to know about chocolate, from how it's made to where to buy the best. There's even a section on the health benefits if you want an excuse to eat more! Included in the book are 30 recipes which are all very tempting. I am looking forward to making the Black bottom cupcakes very soon. This time I chose truffles, and it was a very good decision! They're a doddle to make but look professional. I added a generous slug of whisky to mine and coated them in Lindt 85% for a serious cocoa hit, they were than rolled in cocoa powder. The result? seriously good truffles, especially if you like chocolate dark. you could change the recipe to milk or even white chocolate for a milder flavour. The whisky could be replaced by any number of things, I'm thinking orange zest. I migh...
Verveine infusion, vacherin, crumbs and truffles
2008-03-11 23:56:00
So I finally made it to the evening...kids in bed, run done and dusted, kitchen tidy (ish). just in time for...Hotel Babylon and a cup of tea...of course not! I have lived in England for over a decade now but still can't drink the stuff I am afraid. Just not for me.What I do like to drink, apart from strong, black expresso coffee, is an infusion of  dry verveine (verbena) leaves in the evening. No sugar, occasionally a small teaspoon of honey (from mum and dad's own beehives) for a sore throat a little treat. It's a long family tradition. Like lots of food and drinks I enjoy, it brings back happy memories and a big smile on my face thinking of it.... Read more!
Truffles by the Sea
2008-03-05 18:31:00
Truffles by the Sea is one of those novels that are good to take to the pool or to the beach. The setting is by the sea, so it works out great, right? Julie Carobini weaves a pretty good story… interesting. But…   I was surprised that the protagonist was Latino… or was she Italian? I’m not sure, because I couldn’t tell from the name Flores or from the word si or from some of the other clues, except from the author’s name, Carobini. I didn’t like that, because I really like to know the whole setting by the end of the first chapter if the author is going to throw in foreign words. It’s only fair. Another thing is that present tense monsterous point of view. It is okay to use to make a point, but it is incredibly tiresome to read in bulk, seriously. That being said, this is a good storyline and the book delievers what it promises. That is a good finish line for any novel. Gaby Flores is Drama Queen in action. She, evidently, has a p...
Monday Christmas Cookie (8) - Chestnut Truffles and Flowers
2008-02-18 05:44:00
No-bake truffles of any kind (chocolate, coconut, hazelnut, but also poppy, carrot or oatmeal) have been traditionally rolling around our Christmas table for years - partially because they are easy to make, but mainly because they present a great way of using up all sweet leftovers after struggling with real Christmas traditional recipes. Here are two simple ones for using up chestnuts:CHESTNUT FLOWERS:(gaštanové kvetinky)200 g flour75 g powdered sugar1/4 tsp salt1 egg100 g butter100 g chestnut purée *2 tbsp rum * Note: To make chestnut puree all you need to do is boil whole fresh chestnuts until soft. Once cooled down, peel their skins off and mash them. For a simple dessert, add some sugar and vanilla flavor to taste.Mix all the ingredients together and process to a smooth dough. Place inside the fridge for an hour. Roll out to a 0,8 cm thick piece and cut out flowers (or hearts, traditionally).Place on a baking rack and bake at 170°C until crispy. While still hot, sprinkle t...

Chocolate Truffles VIDEO (vegan, dairy free, and dare I say healthy?)
2008-02-12 00:32:00
Visit my Youtube Channel to watch a video demo of this recipe:CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES VIDEOA bittersweet chocolate truffle with a healthy profile? It sounds too good to be true. But it isn?t. Here?s how it all began.Over a one-month period last summer, I (willingly) slipped into an ice cream-making mania. If you?re wondering why I don?t weigh 500 pounds as a result of my frozen adventures, it?s because I limited the fun to lighter ice cream, sherbet and sorbet recipes (many from Cooking Light?s recipe database) as well as from one amazing little cookbook: Vice Cream--Over 70 Sinfully Delicious Dairy-Free Delights, by Jeff Rogers. The key to Mr. Rogers?s delights is a ?cream? made from an ingenious emulsion of raw cashews and water. With the right proportion of nuts and liquid, and a blending time of several minutes, the mixture emerges as a satiny ?cream?, a neutral backdrop for mixing up (v)ice creams every bit as tempting as their dairy cream cousins. Moreover, the cashew cream makes the...
Monday Christmas Cookie (7) - Carrot Truffles
2008-02-11 08:47:00
Simple, healthy and sweet. A nice fusion twist on a traditional Christmas table. This was what pooped into my mind after the first bite into these juicy balls. There is no real recipe for these, just a simple guidance. Having a lot of room to experiment, one can never get tired of rolling:CARROT TRUFFLES:(Mrkvové guľky)250 g grated carrot250 g crystal sugar1 lemon (juice and zest)oats cornflakesMix together carrot, sugar and a little water and sauté over the low heat until soft. Add the grated lemon peel and squeezed lemon juice. Add enough oats and cornflakes to end up with a thick porridge-like consistency. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and form to a ball. Once cooled down, serve as such.

Review: Bonbons and Truffles
2008-02-05 20:11:00
Bonbons and Trufflesby Teri WilsonMelody Sweet is a lonely, single girl who has a way with chocolate. Her world turns upside-down on Valentine's Day when she simultaneously acquires a precious English Cocker Spaniel puppy and a secret admirer. Will Melody and her puppy, Bonbon, solve the mystery of who is leaving flowers and dog biscuits on her doorstep? Or would she just be better off not knowing? This is a sweet bit of a story based on a chocolatier who spends the Valentine’s holiday helping everyone else get ready to woo their sweetheart. She’s all alone. Alone, that is, until she gets a new puppy named Bonbon. And a box of chocolates from a secret admirer. Is it Hugh? A customer who hits on her? Is it her neighbor, Franklin? Who could it be?I enjoyed this little taste of sweet perfection. But like any good dessert, it left me wanting more, More, MORE. The author did a fabulous job of creating likeable characters from our heroine, Melody Sweet, to her silly employee, Charlotte,...
Nutella & Plazma Truffles
2008-02-04 13:36:00
500 g Nutella150 g ground walnuts200 g ground Plazma biscuits+ 100 g for rolling ina few Tbsp rumStir Nutella until it's very soft. Add walnuts, stir again. Start adding Plazma slowly, stirring continuously. At the end add rum to taste. Start with 1 Tbsp, taste and continue adding it until you're satisfied with the amount of rum inside. Shape the truffles and roll them in the remaining biscuits. Also, be careful not to add too much biscuit to the batter because truffles will become harder in the fridge. Keep in the refrigerator. This is my entry to the World Nutella Day 2008. For the roundups, visit Ms. Adventures in Italy and Bleeding Espresso.More truffles recipes:Rafaelo

Il dolce è nutriente!/This dessert is rich!I mentioned yesterday, I made it through my the party I had been preparing for over the last 2 weeks. It was my first (paid) catering gig and I was very nervous. I was only able to take a couple of pictures before the guests arrived. Once I get the pictures from the photographer and from my friend Ashley, I will put together a slide show this week. I will also link the other first rate vendors who worked the party. In the meantime, there are several thanks that must said, then I will finish the Marzipan Bon Bon/Truffle entry I posted last week.Thank you....Mom - Two of the most popular desserts anywhere I bring them, this party included, the peanut butter bon bons and rugelach/crescent cookies are recipes she gave me. Truffles from heaven

Ok, all I did was take the pictures! :) Becky churned out these fabulous truffles today - she made some milk chocolate ones as well as the ohh-so decadent darkies. They are like pure velvet - incredibly decadent and silky, and the flavours are just explosive. Hmm ... I could wax eloquent about these all night, given the cocoa high I'm on!I don't even have a recipe, maybe I'll bug Becky for it, but I'd rather she just made these for me on a regular basis :)

Spicy Pistachio Truffles
2007-12-11 17:56:00
If you're a chocolate lover, you know there's chocolate and then there's truffles. Chocolate is something you enjoy and share with others. And truffles? Well, lets just say, that truffles turn the best of us into greedy chocolate addicts that hide their stash behind law encyclopedias. If you know of a person who fits that description, then this is your Christmas gift to them.Earlier this week I received my Christmas gift from my friend K. In this wonderful box of sugar delights was a bar of Montezuma's dark chili chocolate. I wanted to use it in a way that would highlight the dark and spiciness of the chocolate. At first, I thought a buttercream for a cupcake would be great. Hmm? No, something better. Then I remembered what K. said, "...the heat slowly builds up as you eat the chocolate". That's when it hit me ...truffles.These truffles are easy peasy. In no time, you'll have a couple of boxes of truffles for the chocolate lovers in your life. The truffle base is a mixture of ...
The Domains: Domain Truffles

Vosges Chocolate Truffles
2007-12-04 04:29:00
I just got back after a weekend in Las Vegas with to much good food and wine. Trust me, you will hear all about it later, but today I thought I would start with telling you about the truffles I got from Vosges Chocolate.Vosges Chocolate is located in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and has a very chic, modern decor, and beautiful display of their chocolates.I picked out four of their truffles to enjoy later. They were put in a classy box that got a bow around it.Balsamico is a dark chocolate truffle flavored with a 12 year old Modena balsamic vinegar. The notes of the vinegar is pleasantly intense and measures up really nice to the dark chocolate. It is topped with chopped hazelnuts for a nice crunch and contrast of texture.Red Fire has a nice spicy kick from Ancho chili and subtle notes of cinnamon. The heat is perfectly balanced with the dark chocolate. Sprinkled with red chili powder it looks like it tastes.Black Pearl is a dark chocolate truffle flavored with ginger, wasabi and topp...

Hong Kong truffle enthusiasts have paid $227,000 for a 750gm white truffle from the town of Alba in Italy’s Piedmont region. Bids also came in from truffle fans in New York and Berlin during the auction, held on November 11. A tartufo bianco from the same region achieved the previous record price of $198,000 at auction last year. Italian truffle markets have seen a peak in prices for the delicacy after a dry summer. Sunday’s truffle auction raised a total of $578,000.

Aphrodisiac salad with white truffles
2007-09-08 18:19:00
Well do not get my word for it! Even the cook master in the video underlines that the aphrodisiac propertis of this salad have to be taken with a question mark.Anyhow, the white truffle is famous in Tuscany for being aphrodisiac, and true or not, if you like truffles, this salad is spectacularly good. Most of all, this is an experiment to help you non-Italian speakers (I should say understanders) to get what this great guy has to teach to the world on hidden Tuscan recipes. My previous videos of him where without English translations. Let me know if you like it, any advice you have. I will then go back and have the others dubbed too.Thank you, enjoy, and also let us know if this really was an aphrodisiac salad!! :P
Chocolate Cheese Truffles
2007-08-31 06:40:00
This is what we made for Teachers' Day. It's Chocolate Cheese Truffles, something easy that can be managed by kids themselves. However, I changed the procedure of my original recipe a bit. Instead of melting the chocolate in a pot over a pot of boiling water, I have the bowl of chopped chocolate in another (heavy) bowl of hot water. I don't want my son to get himself scalded by boiling water as it will be still bubbling. And to keep the chocolate ganache soft for rolling, I have a bowl of hot water at the bottom to act as a 'steamer'.I put the chocolates in a bag and pack them in gift box or attached a tag with it.My son had fun, making the Chocolate Cheese Truffles for his teachers. We have to make another batch again because there weren't any left for us.
