Take Us Back In Time Tuesday - 9/15/09
2009-09-15 16:55:00 I was 20 years old when I first saw the man I wanted to make babies with. The year was 1987. I was instantly enamored with his chiseled good looks. His voice made me swoon. And when he took off his shirt to reveal that body.shiver.This week's Take Us Back In Time Tuesday photo is not my own. But I strongly feel it is appropriate.Patrick Wayne SwayzeAugust 18, 1952 - September 14, 2009This is the man that stole my heart during his performance in the movie Dirty Dancing. "Johnny" was THE sexiest man I had ever laid my eyes on.I fell even harder when he took up pottery in 1990's Ghost. I cry every time I watch that movie.Patrick Swayze was my heartthrob and yesterday, he was taken away. Take Us Back In Time Tuesday - 9/8/09
2009-09-08 12:26:00 Today I'm going to take you back one year. As most moms do, I take pictures of my children on their first day of school. Now mind you, they usually aren't the best shots. It's hard to stand still and smile when you are a bundle of happy, excited, anxious nerves.I know, as I grab my camera, that I'll only be able to fire off two clicks. For each of them. If I'm lucky. So, here is W., T., and R. (in that order) on the first day of 5th grade, Kindergarten, and Preschool, respectively, for the 2008-2009 school year. After they all left for school, I made a huge mistake. I uploaded their new photos into my computer and compared them to the above photos.WHERE.THE.HELL.DID.MY.BA-BIES.GO?!!!!I wanted to cry. Alright, so maybe I did...just a little. So WHAT?!!! You got a problem with that?!Ahem. But would you look at him?! He's gone from a cute little boy to more of a...a....young MAN!! *sniff. And he's gotten so much taller. *sniff. sniff.AND OH NO!!! My baby girl isn't so much a baby any...

Tuesday Night Rodeo
2009-09-02 05:16:00 Bears Receivers Bracing For WorstUnless something bizarre happens on Thursday night against the Browns, I think the Bears are pretty set with their receiving corps and my final guess is that Brandon Rideau will be the odd man out. I think the club keeps six on the roster. Hester and Bennett are the starters. Iglesias and Knox are the rookies. Davis is the special teams ace. Aromashodu has developed a clear rapport with Cutler. That leaves Rideau, a player the Bears might be able to convince to re-join the club on the practice squad with promises of future playing time. I reiterate my past point by saying that I'd cut Iglesias over Rideau. But I don't see it.Playing Time Thursday...
Take Us Back In Time Tuesday - 9/1/09
2009-09-02 03:13:00 This week's Take Us Back In Time Tuesday post is not one photo, but a series of photos. This montage will reveal the type of child my baby brother was. It also explains a LOT about the man he has become. The photo below was taken on Easter of 1980. Please note the identical dresses my sister, K. (on the left) and I are wearing. We are only eleven months apart, my mother dressed us as though we were twins. My sister always got pink. I always got blue. I guess I was too much of a tomboy to wear pink. When I first looked at this photo, I wondered how long my parents made us squint in the sun. How many shots did it take to get this one image?Look at the poor boy's expression! The glare is so bright he can't even keep his eyes open!In the same album, I came across another photo. Once again, my siblings and I are outside posing, this time for my sister's 8th grade graduation. The sun seems to be behind the clouds. I consider this a good thing. I think if the sun HAD been out that day, t...

David Patton is expected to join the club tomorrow and then we'll a few more players later on.Lou talked at length in the pre-game media session about the reasons for the Cubs' struggles this year and he kept getting back to an offense that will produce a lot fewer runs than the club that led the league with 855 runs last season. The numbers are just too difficult to ignore. I know we like to pound on the chemistry issue...

Horoscope of the 1929 Crash: 'Black Tuesday'
2009-08-23 19:25:00 A chart set for Noon in NYC on the day of the 1929 stock market crash - 'Black Tuesday' - is being published here because the image will no longer 'click-to-enlarge' on my WordPress blog where the chart's details are published, so I'm linking this post to the chart detail text there and vice versa. (Just tryin' to disseminate some info within the bounds of online tech quirkiness!)In 1929, the 'little guy' working man (woman) who had been snookered into investing his life savings with Wall Street, was wiped out along with middle men who may just as well have jumped out of The Windows Of Wall Street for fear of prosecution for fraud and racketeering than for the loss of wealth which accompanied the exposure of their weaknesses, warts and all.Now they've done it all again, this time with expanded worldwide implications for the 'global economy' they've always said they wanted (so the collapse may be complete and total, the better to rule the entire world, my dear.) We now k...
UW Geological Museum Opens Tuesday
2009-08-23 01:00:00 From Keep Laramie Dinosaurs-- Aug. 22, 2009 --The University of Wyoming Geological Museum will be open on a part time basis beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25. The museum hours will be 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays during the 2009-0 academic year. It will be closed Mondays. The museum is able to open because the UW Foundation provided funding for a part-time security guard to ensure the safety of the collection. UW President Tom Buchanan has thanked the Foundation for its support in securing funding to make the collections accessible for public viewing. The museum closed June 30 as one of a series of steps taken to meet an $18.3 million state budget cut that took effect July 1.At least it'll be better than having it close to the public all day-- but it's not enough! Please do whatever you can to raise enough money to have the museum open to the public FULL TIME!
ASE09: Tuesday Peter Shankman Keynote (Dominic?s Take)
2009-08-20 22:00:00 Guest Post by Dominic Fawver. I see that Trisha has already given a really good outline of the topics covered by Peter, so I will just briefly mention a few things that I got out of it. This was one of the most entertaining, insightful, and inspirational speeches given at the Summit. I really enjoyed how Peter was able to engage the entire audience by using current examples mixed in with examples from his own experience. One of his key points was that you can not make something go viral; you can make something good, and if people like it, it will go viral. This keynote (along with all that I learned at Affiliate Summit) has given me the inspiration to continue on with a couple of projects I had been thinking of for a while. That’s the mark of a good keynote. Powered by Max Banner Ads

Cubs Headlines For Tuesday: People We Hate As Much As Kevin Gregg
2009-08-18 08:22:00 Good God, where do I even start? In case you missed the game last night, let's recap: After Kevin Gregg gave up four two-out runs in the ninth inning in a 4-1 loss to the Padres on Monday night, Piniella said he plans on removing Gregg from the closer's role. "I think we're going to make some changes as far as what we're going to do in late innings," Piniella said. "We'll have some more tomorrow." Piniella didn't say who would be his new closer, though Carlos Marmol and Angel Guzman are considered the likeliest candidates. Gregg blew his sixth save of the year and third in August, giving up a tying double to Chase Headley, and, after an...

Take Us Back In Time Tuesday - 8/11/09
2009-08-12 04:15:00 The year was 1989. The sleeping beauty? Mr. Schmitty. We were both 22 and best friends.ONLY.I remember this weekend, clearly. I am quite surprised I can recall it so well. There was mucho alcohol consumed, which I'm sure, accounted for a major loss of brain cells. You probably are thinking this is just a picture of a sleeping man. Au contraire! You see, the story behind this photo is what you DON'T see. It is what is beyond the borders. It's also what the slumbering Mr. Schmitty has yet to experience.I was house sitting for my friend. N.'s family lived in another state and she would periodically ask me to stay at her house and take care of her dog. Seriously, what 22 year old wouldn't?And because we were friends, she knew that I'd have parties. Hell, she encouraged them! So, this particular night, Mr. Schmitty and I had gone to a wedding together. Like I said, as FRIENDS ONLY. When we came back to N.'s house, there was a mob waiting for us on the front porch. We partied well in...
Chicago Cubs Headlines for Tuesday
2009-08-11 07:58:00 "Are you just faking because you're not pitching well?"We were just hoping for a split, right? Well, even that didn't happen, as Gorzy failed to come through for the Cubs on Monday night, resulting in an 11-5 loss to the Rockies: The Cubs started this three-city road trip with a half-game lead in the NL Central and feeling good about themselves with seven victories in eight games. They ended it Monday with an 11-5 loss to the Rockies and behind three games in both the Central and wild-card races, having lost six of the 10 games, a starting pitcher and third baseman. "We just have to go home and regroup, period," manager Lou Piniella said....

2009-08-04 18:13:00 Okay, guys, so it is done. If you look at the right side of the screen (and scroll down a bit), you'll see the constant updates from the writers covering camp, some players and correspondance to them from fans. It's actually pretty cool.Cedric Benson Still Hasn't LearnedI don't care if Cedric Benson believes the Bears made a mistake in releasing him. (They didn't) I don't care if Cedric Benson believes he's better than Matt Forte. (He's not) I don't care if Cedric Benson believes the Holocaust didn't happen. (It did) What I don't understand is why Benson insists on never shutting his goddamn mouth. He had a halfway decent season for a crap team against awful defenses and now he's...
Take Us Back In Time Tuesday - 8/4/09
2009-08-04 14:59:00 This is the house I grew up in. It is a duplex, one of the few, in a town consisting of mostly the rich and privileged. We lived on the side with the yellow Chevette in the driveway. When I was searching through my photos for this weeks post, I couldn't decide which smiling face or happy memory to write about.I flipped a page in my album and wondered what I was searching for. Suddenly, this photo jumped out at me. But not in a good way. It caused a knot in my chest. I felt somewhat short of breath. It was an unexpected reaction but so strong that I kept looking. It was as though the photo was calling out to me. It was an eerie feeling. It felt dark. Most of you might look at this house and say, "Oh, how nice, Mrs. Schmitty's childhood home." Please do not call it a home. It was not. What I see in my mind, when I look at this house, is a childhood of sadness, of violence, of abuse. I see a mother and three children who walked on eggshells around an unpredictable man.I look at those sha...

Take Us Back In Time Tuesday - 7/28/09
2009-07-28 22:30:00 I love looking back through old photos. Anyone and everyone's photos. What I love even more is hearing the stories that accompany them. Every photo has a memory. Every photo invokes an emotion or feeling.I decided to begin a weekly post entitled, "Take Us Back In Time Tuesday". Each week I will include a photo from my past and tell you, my readers, the story behind it. I would love to hear your tales, as well. So, if you would like to, please read this to find out how to participate. Now, without further ado, my first "Take Us Back In Time Tuesday" post:**************************-*******************************-Last week my boys were attending their summer religious classes. Each had to bring in a photo of their Baptism. I smiled as I pulled T.'s photo from it's album. There were happy faces on all; a typical, joyous celebration.I then found W.'s photo.Though the faces are smiling, there is nothing festive about the occasion. My face is still blotchy and red from the tears that had...
Chicago Cubs Headline for Tuesday
2009-07-28 11:00:00 I'll get to Cubs news in the comments. For right now, we have only one headline. I believe in newspapers. I grew up in a family that read the paper around the breakfast table each morning. I went to journalism school and, when it was all the rage to concentrate in broadcasting, I concentrated in feature story writing. I cannot remember a time when the Chicago Tribune was not the first paper I read in the morning. In college in Southern Indiana, I had it delivered to my dorm. When I lived in France, I would walk the two miles to the train station every day to pick up a day-old Tribune. As a teen, I wanted to...
