Learnsigma - now tumblelog flavoured
2007-10-16 15:59:00 This is what LearnSigma has become! A tumblelog is a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumblelogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or ...

2007-10-11 03:19:00 Check out my new Tumblelog, a compilation of bits and pieces around the blogosphere. It is my online scrapbook of interesting links, photos, quotes and more. Tumblelog
2007-10-02 22:19:00 It should be quite evident that I have changed the theme of the blog now. Though I liked the Digg theme and the Header was liked by many I had to let go of it due to reasons like: 1) Cumbersome feeling 2) Slow load speeds I’ll be experimenting with some themes for now, till I settle with ...

I do not like Tumblelogs
2007-09-26 12:21:00 I’ve occasionally looked for a good bit of software to set up Kember.net as a tumblelog – a weblog designed for short, title-less articles that contain a few thoughts. Tumblelogs make publishing much easier. People can see my ideas and thoughts from the totality of postings rather than from a few long articles. When I have interesting thoughts, I could just slap them up on the website. Most of these thoughts never make it to Kember.net at the moment, because expanding them into full-blown articles tends to vapourise them. However, I’ve come to realise that I hate reading tumblelogs. There’s not enough consistency to keep my attention. The articles aren’t long enough to tell me something meaningful or make me think. They’re so… In your face. Therefore, I shall carry on as I am.

13 Reasons Bloggers Should Use a Tumblelog for Links
2007-08-23 06:30:00 On my other blog, Zen Habits, I have a companion tumblelog that I use to link to articles I think will interest my readers. It’s been one of the best things I’ve done on my blog, for a number of good reasons, and I highly recommend it to any blogger. Let’s start by talking a little about tumblelogs. If you’re not familiar with them, they’re about the simplest blogs there are — basically a collection of links, quotes, photos, videos, dialogue, snippets of text, or anything else you might run into while surfing the net. A tumblelog can contain regular blog posts, but for the most part it’s links and other media you stumble across that you want to share with others. And it’s easy: you can use a service like Tumblr and get a free tumblelog running in minutes. Using their bookmarklet, you can link to a post or photo or video within seconds. No hassle, no wasted time. From my blog’s main page, I have a prominent link to the Zen Habits ...

Tumblelog etiquette?
2007-08-18 21:58:00 Is it cool to reblog posts from another tumblelog? I would think that the same copyright rules apply as everywhere else, but I found my "Ugly Overload" post from August 17th verbatim on another tumblelog. I can't lay any claim to the link, but why copy the brief personal commentary too, and with no attribution? Not cool. Working on the assumption that the fellow tumbler just goofed, I won't name the tumblelog, and I'll delete this post when the reblogged version of it is modified. Meanwhile, feel free to leave a comment about this question or anything else related to the tumblelog. Just use the comments link in the header of this page.

Gelato: Own Your Own Tumblelog
2007-07-13 01:42:00 Gelato is an open source tumblelog “content management system” (CMS) from a group of Mexican developers. Tublelogs are the ADHD version of blogging, meant for easily throwing up mixed media posts made up of photos, videos, chat logs, links, quotes, and short paragraphs. Similar to full blown blogs, you can host a tumblelog on a site like Tumblr, but Gelato lets you own the code. There have been a couple other open source tumblelogs out there, such as Bazooka and Tumble but Gelato is a little more ambitious. They’re following Wordpress’ lead, incorporating themes and plugin support TBA. Installation is simple and similar to Wordpress’ 5 minute install, requiring only a MySQL database and setting a config.php file. Once installed you can post up short paragraphs, pictures, video, links, quotes, and chat logs. Pictures can be uploaded from your computer or through a URL. For URLs, it doesn’t hotlink, it downloads the photo to your server. Videos (Y...

Tumblelog craze
2007-03-10 16:42:20 After witnessing the recent tumblelog trend, I’ve decided to take my blogging in a direction that I’ve wanted to for a while now. I’ve stripped down my site and used quite a few homemade WordPress mods to allow myself to post very frequent short links to sites of interest. (Expect a how-to on that soon.) Nothing changes — same RSS address, archives have been carried over, in-depth write-ups will still be written, etc. Simply more content will be posted daily. Since I’ve been wanting to try this for almost a year now, I figured this is a better method than relying on a fly-by-night startup for a separate blog. (These changes may seem sudden, but this has been a side project of mine for a few months.) Feel free to let me know what you think. Since this WordPress solution is mostly homebrew, I’d love to hear any suggestions.
