Gitta Gschwendtner's Uncanny Lamps
2009-05-14 18:12:00 Every once in a while you run into interior design ideas that were clearly influenced by Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland' or some other fanciful work of hallucinogen-fed fiction. The Uncanny Lamps series by Gitta Gscwendtner reflects that inpsiration pretty clearly.
Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #506
2009-02-21 19:30:00 The Revolution has been critical of Fraction's work on Uncanny X-Men. It has hardly been anything impressive. However, Fraction showed some improvement with Uncanny X-Men Annual #2. It was by far the best effort that Fraction has given us on this title. Hopefully, Fraction can keep the ball rolling and give us at least a solid read with Uncanny X-Men #506. Let's go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writer: Matt Fraction Pencils: Terry Dodson Inks: Rachel Dodson Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Art Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Emma Frost waking up in a white room full of white squares. One of the white squares turns black. Emma touches it and black ink pours from the square and fills up the room and envelops Emma. Emma screams out for Scott. We cut to Emma waking up from her nightmare. Scott asks if she is okay. Emma replies that nothing is wrong. However, Emma has a scared look on her...
Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #503
2008-10-16 22:05:00 Uncanny X-Men continues to be an absolutely dreadful read. This just might be the worst Marvel comic book on the market. There is no reason for me to expect anything other than plenty of hackneyed and ?trendy? dialogue, zero character work and incredibly insipid plotlines. I am going to hold my nose and go ahead and do this review for Uncanny X-Men #503. Creative Team Writers: Matt Fraction & Ed Brubaker Pencils: Greg Land Inks: Jay Leisten Art Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 2 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 3.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Cannonball at the bar Soma in San Francisco. The bartender cards Sam to wit Sam flashes his I.D. and comments that he is ?Free, white and twenty-one.? Oh yeah, I forgot to point out that the bartender is black. (This is so stupid.) We cut to Sam slinking back to the table with the drinks. Mirage and Karma ask Sam what took him so long. Sam replies that he just got a lecture on racial sensitivity. Sam...
Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #498
2008-06-03 20:55:00 Ever since the end of Messiah Complex, Uncanny X-Men has been a solid, but certainly not spectacular, read. I am beginning to get the nagging feeling that Brubaker does not know where to go with this title in the wake of Messiah Complex. Uncanny X-Men appears to be losing some of its focus. And that is unusual for a Brubaker penned title. Hopefully, Brubaker can bring Uncanny X-Men up to his high standard of writing that we get on his other titles. Let?s do this review for Uncanny X-Men #498.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArt: Michael ChoiArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene in San Francisco when the ?goddess? arrived on the scene. We see three aging hippies talking about the ?good old days? when the come across a disoriented woman in a super hero or SHIELD agent styled outfit. The woman mumbles that she can?t feel them. That she can?t hear them. The woman then asks...
Word of the Day: Uncanny
2008-05-19 00:00:00 Uncanny (?n-k?n??) is an adjective used to describe things that are strange and disturbing, to the point that they appear to have a supernatural origin. One informal synonym is spooky. Spinoza was uncanny, both personally and philosophically. He wore a signet ring reminding him to be cautious, in contrast to ...
BMW M1 Hommage Concept is Uncanny? (Video)
2008-04-29 23:08:00 Uncanny as in the Uncanny X-Men, yes something so bizarre and unique and radical that I couldn?t even begin to form a opinion. This is the BMW M1 Hommage Concept that was presented unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este this past weekend. It seems wrong on so many levels, but imaginative on others, ...

25 Seriously Twisted Trees: From Uncanny Overgrowth to Awesome Arbosculptur
2008-04-22 17:57:00 Trees and plants have a kind of flexibility that is both disturbing and inspiring. Left to their own devices they can wrap around objects and create strange works of unintentional art. 25 Seriously Twisted Trees: From Uncanny Urban Overgrowth to Awesome Arbosc
2008-04-22 17:57:00 Trees and plants have a kind of flexibility that is both disturbing and inspiring. Left to their own devices they can wrap around objects and create strange works of unintentional art. Properly pruned and cultivated they can be made into curious, compelling and useful shapes of all sorts. From tree furniture designs to unchecked acts of nature here are 25 examples of the amazing malleability of trees. Of course, there are many forms of strange green art and other subversive ways to garden. Given time trees can grow around just about anything. Historically, there are a number of legends, rumors and hoaxes regarding man-and-cow-eating trees. Trees that consume people, animals or other objects have also featured prominently in various works of literary fiction such as Little Shop of Horrors. Peter (Pook) Cook and Becky Northey of Pooktre dot Com are two Australian artists and tree shapers who started their love of tree-shaping with a single chair tree. They have since created, indi...

Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #496
2008-03-11 19:57:00 Last issue of Uncanny X-Men laid the foundation for the new direction for this title in the wake of the Messiah Complex. It was not anything spectacular, but it certainly was a solid issue that kicked off what should be an entertaining story arc. I?m sure that Brubaker has another reliable read in store for us with Uncanny X-Men #496. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArt: Michael ChoiArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Angel joining the other dirty hippies, as Eric Cartman would say, in their little mind trip that is going on in San Francisco. We see Hepzibah, already under the influence of the strange time warp, hanging out and dancing with some hippies. One of the hippies talk about how awesome the goddess is and how great things have become since they have joined her dream. The hippie then enters a brownstone and knocks on a door to one of the rooms. The goddess ...
Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #495
2008-02-07 20:54:00 Messiah Complex is over and now we get to deal with the fall out spinning out of one of the best big events from Marvel that I have read in a long time. Evidently, the X-Men are going to be disbanded as they try to figure out how to move on without their leader Professor X. Hopefully, Uncanny X-Men #495 gets me excited about this new direction for this title. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArt: Michael ChoiArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Scott dreaming about his decision to disband the X-Men. Scott?s father, Corsair, tells him that sometimes you have to keep moving and can?t stay in one place too long. Jean Grey, in full Phoenix form, tells Scott that he is not the type of man to sit around and brood. That Scott is afraid of change.Emma then invades Scott?s dream and tells him that change is good. We see Scott and Emma waking up in bed. Scott say...

2007-12-22 18:13:00 There are days that my mind is so bombarded by facts, images, and ideas that I fear my head will explode, just like in the movie "Scanners"! I'm overloaded with tons of useless information every day: radio, TV, internet, newspapers, magazines, E-Mail, you name it: I'm constantly being bombarded by bits and bytes that I can't even begin to pro5 Zoom(s)

Uncanny X-Men #492
2007-11-12 22:23:00 Everything leading up to Messiah CompleX has seen each of the core X-titles getting better and better and better. All of which led me to believe this would usher in a new golden age for mutants in the Marvel U. This is it? I'm still waiting for the awesomeness, Brubaker.
JLA Movie to go Uncanny Valley?
2007-08-23 19:30:00 Filmdrunk.com has a link to a rumor suggesting that the upcoming Justice League of America movie might be motion captured CG (think Polar Express) rather than live action. This is terrible news. Just cast Bale and Routh and make a proper live action kick ass super-hero movie! Motion captured CG just looks creepy, like they propped up a bunch of corpses and moved their lips to the dialog. Confused by the phrase uncanny valley? Go here. Bookmark to:
the miracle of birth in the uncanny valley
2007-08-09 10:35:00 So, you?re done fooling around with your real doll want to settle down with a nice synthetic woman and start a family. Well, here?s just the thing for you. Her name is Noelle and she?s a birthing simulation mannequin. Now I warn you, the images contained herein are a disturbing look at what happens when a man loves $20,000 worth of silicon and servos too well. Before you go plunking said 20k down, you should see what you, as the proud father to be, are getting. Well, lets see what we have in the box.First off is Noelle, mother of your child. Quite a looker, no? Not the most modest of gals, but the arm cocked behind her head gives her a laid back style that makes her let-it-all-hang-out construction seem natural.Next up we have our bouncing baby whatever. It?s just the cutest little thing. It?s got tubes and plunger dealies and a big blue wired control box, just like a real infant. The real fun is getting the two together so that you can recreate the natural majesty of birth. Once you ...

2007-07-27 20:34:00 Pink played at the Auditorio Pio in Rome, Italy last Wednesday and a fan, obviously, gave her Piglet from Winnie the Pooh! They share both colour (pink) and expression… Uncanny!
