Union Square
2008-07-18 19:42:00 One thing, among the millions of others, that bothers me about NYC is this place called Union Square. The place itself doesn't bug me. It's actually a nice park with a farmer's market and a holiday bazaar at Christmas time. Nice neighborhood with... Read and post comments | Send to a friend

Union Square Fight Club
2008-05-29 05:04:00 So apparently there's some lame ass fight club type shenanigans going on in Union Square outside of Whole Foods. I don't really care to see jackasses hurt themselves for fun, but it's funny when it's two girl jeans wearing hipster boys...no doubt fighting over a hair straightener. Though I wouldn't call it fighting...Also, my dad totally rolls into the middle of their fight in an office chair. Awkward!

MIke Doughty at B&N Union Square
2008-04-10 16:00:00 At this afternoon's "Upstairs at the Square" at Barnes and Noble, FreeNYC favorite Mike Doughty performs songs from his new album Golden Delicious. "Golden Delicious is melodically rich and rhythmically dense, with Doughty's vocals giving the lyrics a syncopated pulse that adds another level of complexity to the overall sound." If you haven't gotten tickets to any of his recent NYC shows, this is a good way to check him out. Read More...Digg this | Email to a friend | Reddit

City Walk #15 - Union Square to Madison Square
2008-03-31 02:48:00 Card no. 19 - photosSpend a Saturday the way New Yorkers do.Begin at 14th Street and Broadway (L, N, A, R, 4, 5, or 6 train to 14th Street).Union Square, with a statue of Lincoln at the north end and one of Washington on horseback at the south, might be assumed to have been laid out along patriotic lines. In fact, Union refers to the 1831 "union" of the old Bowery road with Broadway. The happy result is the center of a lively neighborhood known for its home-furnishings stores, publishing houses, modeling agencies, and stylish restaurants - the Union Square Cafe (21 E. 16th St.) and Mesa Grill (102 Fifth Ave.) being two of the best. Home to Manhattan's first and largest farmer's market, Union Square is transformed into one of the city's most delightful communal spaces every Saturday, when farmers from within a 100-mile radius of Manhattan arrive with truckloads of fresh produce, flowers, maple syrup, eggs, cheeses, and baked goods. (It's also open Monday, Wednesday and Friday whe...

Seven Day Stay at the W Hotel Union Square, Manhattan, New York City
2008-01-12 00:51:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We spent a pleasant week in New York just before the holidays in December. It was a great time to explore the city, see new plays, view latest exhibitions, check out the cool new eateries and visit family members. During the planning stage, we were looking for a hotel near Union Square. The W Hotel was always on our mind, but we found it to be pricey in the past. The difference this year was that all hotel prices in New York seemed to have increased drastically. Staying at much more modest lodgings was going to cost us several hundred dollars per night. We might as well go all out then and pick a nicer place. Thanks to a sweet special by Starwood Hotels (stay four nights, get two free) we were able to bring our costs down and stay at the W Hotel. This was our first visit to this hotel brand and we were excited.Rate and Review : Seven Day Stay at the W Hotel Union Square, Manhattan, New York City

Breakfast at the Friend of a Farmer Restaurant near Union Square in NYC
2007-12-31 20:28:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Concierge at the W Hotel recommended that we try Friend of a Farmer Restaurant for breakfast during our stay in New York City. It was just around the corner from the hotel. The promise of a good breakfast always gets me even more hungry than I already am. The restaurant is located on the East side of Irving Place between 18th and 19th streets. Not hard to find at all. Due to the time difference between West and East coasts we were eating breakfast closer to noon. On this day we got in just before 11am when the menu changed. The hostess was nice enough to ensure that we could order from the breakfast menu even though they seemed strict regarding this rule.Rate and Review : Breakfast at the Friend of a Farmer Restaurant near Union Square in NYC

Union Products yesterday...Union Square tomorrow
2007-08-17 22:16:00 In case you weren't aware, Union Products has gone out of business and no longer manufactures the pink flamingos that nobody would ever put on their front lawn today. The funny thing is that once the plant closed down everybody got all sentimental and it was like the worst day ever in flamingo land. After the plant closing, The Flamingo Project was born to bring back to life something that I can't recall ever seeing anywhere in Leominster on a front lawn. Now certainly there is more to the Flamingo Project than making flamingos, don't get me wrong. I think those guys are going to do great things for the community around recycling and possibly redevelopment and reuse of some of the areas vacant industrial buildings. Will they make money selling flamingos? We'll see...I just can't see pink flamingos on the front lawns of the houses being built in some of Leominster's upscale developments. I think I read about a covenant in one development that no flamingos were allowed in the fron...
Adobe Pimps Creative Suite 3 With Interactive Wall in Union Square
2007-07-20 04:43:00 Adobe is shilling for its Creative Suite 3 with a 7×15 ft. interactive wall outside of the Virgin Megastore in Union Square that debuts this morning. The display grants the closest passerby control of a slider button on the bottom that manipulates what’s projected based on their walking speed and direction, producing different effects in the animation. It also reacts incidentally to the crowd around it, which should make the glorious pedestrian congestion in that area even more awesome. While definitely slick, the implementation of the idea actually seems somewhat limited, and doesn’t make full use of its potential"imagine a 20×20 foot version of Microsoft Surface that people could just walk up and draw on. If it recorded every stroke made over the display’s duration, it could turn into a really interesting mass art project, for instance. Sure, you’d probably wind up with more than a few obscene renderings, but it’s New York, people can hand...
