what I thought of United 93
2007-06-12 23:03:00 While the Boyfriend is away I decided to rent some movies that we wouldn't watch as a couple. Normally it's not too difficult to choose movies that we both like, but our tastes aren't always in sync. He tends to go for feel-good movies, comedies and stuff that doesn't make him "think," as he puts it. Whereas I will watch films with difficult content if they meet the following criteria: they teach me something about the world, they are examples of brilliant filmmaking, they are documentaries (I love a good doc), and/or they're about plane crashes (I admit it, I've always been a disaster freak). "United 93" met all those criteria and blew me away.Teaching me something about the worldI felt that it was important to see "United 93" to learn a little more about what happened on September 11, 2001. I remember waking up that morning to the sound of Judy Madran on CBC Radio saying "The United States of America is under terrorist attack." My first reaction, like many people, was "huh?"...

2007-01-26 18:30:00 Os 3 filmes que assisti nos últimos dois dias...Todos muito interessantes por algum motivo! Cachê Não gosto de contar o filme, gosto de apenas passar a impressão que tive, a emoção que me causou, o interesse que o filme tem a oferecer de forma subjetiva. Cachê é um filme aparentemente estranho. Que não vai te mostrar de graça a explicação para ele. E talvez por isso seja tão interessante. Cachê é o preço que se paga a tudo que se faz na vida, a tudo que você fez para conseguir alcançar seus interesses, a tudo que você construiu, da forma como construiu. É o preço que você irá pagar pelo profissão que escolher, pela casa que decidiu comprar, na vizinhança que quis morar. É o preço que você tem a pagar pelo modo como educou seus filhos, ou tratou a sua mulher ou seus amigos até hoje. É o que tem de débito com aquele que um dia deixou pra trás ou humilhou. 2006-08-23 20:30:22 This is a remarkably good movie. Considering everyone going to see it knows the outcome, the film does a remarkable job in building a sense of dread throughout and particularly for allowing viewers the irrational hope that the final outcome may be different. I was also pleasantly surprised by the restraint shown by the director - there was none of the pro-American, anti-Muslim sentiment that I feared would occur. The film shows the passengers reacting to save their own lives, not as the result of any particular patriotic fervour. This is a far more realistic approach given the paucity of information the passengers had at hand as to what was occurring in the US on that fateful day. I thoroughly recommend this film but prepared to be on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Movie reviews, book reviews, theatre reviews
