Hard Drive Encryption A Solution For University Of Florida Case?
2008-05-22 02:03:00 The University of Florida will be notifying patients that there was a breach of their information. According to the Triangle Business Journal, an assistant professor of plastic surgery at the university stored digital photographs of patients and identifying information on a computer. The identifying information included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and Medicare numbers. Such information is to be stored on university servers and never on individual computer hard drives, per school regulations; the doctor is resigning from his position for violating this policy. The storage of the information was not the cause of the information security breach, however. The breach occurred when the doctor gave away the computer to a friend. The computer had a new operating system installed in it?by the friend, not the doctor?and the Journal article states that it ?[resulted] in the permanent loss of most of the patient information.? I don?...
John McCain Releases New Ad and Gives Speech: Health Care Action
2008-04-30 03:05:00 Alright, so John McCain released a new ad today, giving a rough outline of his health care plan: I thought the ad was good overall. It briefly addressed each of his main points. The music fit well. He could’ve elaborated more on allowing people to cross state lines to get health care. I guess the biggest ...

Don?t Tase Me, Bro
2007-12-31 09:00:00 Funny thing, society. It is mechanical, following the same routing over and over again. We’re accultured to this. Anything out of the ordinary, breaking through the monotones stays with us, echoing in our lives. This is just an example. We usually take stuff like this for granted, consider it something funny, but what is really ...

Asymmetric Opinion on John Kerry Taser incident at University of Florida
2007-09-20 09:56:00 I made a joke about Andrew Meyer getting tased, but that only proves that serious people shouldn't make decisions based on jokes. In reality, the guy was an obnoxious, self-aggrandizing, punk. He should have left after the police asked him to instead of resisting. Since he decided to fight the police, the authorities had every right to remove him using a one-step escalation. What would he have preferred: Getting beaten up? Please, don't act a fool and then complain when people don't stand up and applaud. When you watch the video below, notice that Mr. Meyer utters the same conspiratorial nonsense that far-lefty bloggers and other assorted nuts spew on the internet and Pacifica radio.

University of Florida student Tasered - Former Cop Provides Sane Look
2007-09-19 12:13:00 I saw this post over at Salon.com and was overjoyed:"Former cop hereAnd those cops were oafs. They may or may not get away with their unprofessional, excessive behavior, depending on the quality of the investigation, but they handled that situation with a level of incompetence one would usually only expect from a Bush political appointee.Setting aside for a moment the question of whether the kid should have been taken down in the first place (I think he should have been allowed to rant, myself), skillful, well-trained police officers have methods for dealing with unruly individuals, not the least of which is basic diplomacy..There is absolutely no reason why that situation should have devolved the way it did except that the officers involved didn't know what they were doing and overreacted. In my former department, that level of incompetence wouldn't be tolerated.-- Bukk63"The world needs more active police officers like him. Thank God for this voice of sanity.
University of Florida student Tasered at John Kerry Forum
2007-09-19 11:38:00 Here's the story:GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? A University of Florida student was Tasered and arrested Monday when he attempted to speak at a forum with U.S. Sen. John Kerry during a question and answer session, university officials said.Andrew Meyer, 21, asked Kerry why he did not contest the 2004 presidential election, which he lost to President Bush, and why there had been no moves to impeach Bush."He apparently asked several questions ? he went on for quite awhile ? then he was asked to stop," university spokesman Steve Orlando said. "He had used his allotted time. His microphone was cut off then he became upset."While as many as four police officers tried to remove Meyer from the forum, he yelled for help and asked "What did I do?" Minutes after Meyer started speaking, he was Tasered.Meyer was charged with resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, according to Alachua County jail records. No bond had been set. Meyer was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning, a jail officia...
Free Speech at University of Florida = 95 Seconds
2007-09-18 21:08:00 All Photos: Andrew Stanfill, Independent Florida Alligator / AP The case of Andrew Meyer should cause concern to any friend of the Constitution, including those in law enforcement. Tasered in Handcuffs?!?
2007-09-18 04:11:00 I would like to know...Do you think it is ever OK to taser somebody if they are already in handcuffs? Please post your answer in the comments section. The reason I ask this question is because of a post I just read on LAist. Follow that link and check out the video. Yes, the guy became animated and impassioned with his question, but is that reason enough to remove him from the microphone by force, for no real nor apparent reason? I don't know. He could have been asked to just leave, but I think he probably still would have acted out as he did. But, the underlying fact is that he was tasered while HANDCUFFED and ON HIS STOMACH! That is a pretty submissive position, especially with 5 cops on top of you. Sure, his was causing a ruckus, so kick him out! Don't taser the poor sap when he's handcuffed!1st Photo Credit: AP Photo/The Capital Times, David Sandell2nd Photo Credit: AP Photo/Rutland Herald, Vyto Starinskas
