Round 19: The Final Two Candidates Square Off
2008-02-22 07:38:00 On Thursday night, CNN aired the long awaited head-to-head match up between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The debate was held in Austin, Texas and was hosted by Univision and CNN. Many, including myself, had expected to see Clinton come out with all guns blazing ready to attack Obama with all she had. Instead we saw a civil discussion between Clinton and Obama during most of the debate with only a few Clinton digs at her opponent. Despite the hosts attempts to cut debate short on the issue of health care, the candidates demanded that the issue be discussed further. Clinton and Obama argued back and forth over the merits and downfalls of mandatory enrollment in health care. Obama?s plan does not force adults to buy into the plan but rather makes it affordable so that they will want to buy it. 2007-12-10 17:33:00 Let me preface my commentary by stating that the Spanish-speaking Hispanic-American is, in fact, more ignorant (ignorant in the lack-of-knowledge sense) about politics than the average American. How can they not be? They don't have conservative talk radio; Spanish language television and newspapers are more slanted than the New York Times; and they have much less diversity in their representation. With the deck stacked so much against Republicans, it's a wonder that Republicans get any votes at all. But they do because Hispanics are natural conservatives and I'm not just repeating Republican happy talk. I happen to work and live in 90%+ Hispanic neighborhood and whenever I present conservative arguments to Hispanics, I always get the following two reactions: Jaw-dropping shock at having heard a contrary opinion followed by assenting nods. If they ask about immigration, they should say what they think. Tancredo is being a little silly, too. The December 10, 2007 Democratic debate in Los Angeles was canceled due to the writers strike. The Republican Party has also decided to schedule the Univision Spanish-language debate that was previously canceled. Tom Tancredo is the only candidate that will not be there because he refuses to take part in a Spanish language debate. How sensitive and assimilating of him. Duncan Hunter has even agreed to attend.
