2008-01-28 12:52:00 PARIS (Reuters) - French bank Societe Generale said on Sunday it used one sole trader to unwind 50 billion euros ($73.3 billion) worth of positions following its discovery of an alleged fraud at the bank. "We used just one trader," Jean-Pierre Mustier, the chief executive of SocGen's corporate and investment banking unit, told reporters on a conference call. Mustier declined to identify the SocGen trader, but said he was a "very senior guy in the organisation." The bank unwound the position from Jan 21-23, with markets already under pressure from concerns over global credit losses. Police are questioning 31-year-old SocGen trader Jerome Kerviel over the alleged fraud, which led to 4.9 billion euros worth of losses at the bank. SocGen said the nominal amount of the fraudulent position was around 50 billion euros. 2007-10-31 00:48:00 Though I love being a part of the exciting happenings each week at iMedExchange, it was a little hard to return this Monday, because I cut out early on Friday afternoon to take the ferry over to Whidbey Island, WA to stay at one of my favorite places with my husband: The Inn at Langley. We left our two, beautiful girls, ages 7 and 13, in the care of their grandparents and arrived at the Inn shortly after 4pm. We took advantage of the big Jacuzzi tub that overlooks the water, bundled up on our waterfront deck, and watched the birds and clouds float by. We enjoyed our dinner in front of the fire and watched the full moon reflect all its brightness. We had the best night’s sleep in a very long time. The next morning we read the paper over the complimentary and delicious breakfast at the Inn and then spent an hour getting massages with Kara at the Inn’s Spa Essencia.
