Truck robbed on Ahmedabad-Vadodara express highway
2008-04-25 17:34:00 In yet another incident of robbery on the highway, some unidentified persons attacked the driver and cleaner of a truck laden with iron rods on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara express highway, and made away with the vehicle on Wednesday night.According to the police, Shakrabhai, the driver who works for Mehsana-based Shri Somnath TranSports, was driving towards Vadodara with his cleaner Pravinsinh. They were to deliver the goods at Surat, and when they were on the express highway, a red car overtook the truck and forced them to stop it.The accused then dragged the duo out and forced them in their car, while a few others took over the truck. The two were thrown off the car near Traj village in Matar taluka of Kheda district, with their hands and legs tied. The victims managed to untie themselves after some time and registered a police complaint in Matar. 2008-04-16 18:14:00 When 41 children die in a road mishap, then we can probably compare such a tragedy to any national calamity that has been a part of the past and our instant reaction would have to be OH-MY-GOD, even if you are an atheist. This particular tragedy took place today in the city of Vadodara in Gujarat when a bus carrying 44 people (41 among them children, most studying in standards 8th and 9th) fell into the 60-foot deep Narmada canal with reports stating that the driver lost control of the bus.The state government has announced a one lakh rupees compensation package for each of the victims, but there is truly no recovering from such damage. Sometimes life throws up situations that are beyond human control. And when our weaknesses (read children) are the ones affected, then every other thing seems very, very ordinary.Reality?s harshness was belligerently exposed in this mishap, but the root cause of such life-altering events is us, we the inexplicably ignorant people. Working with a private firm, he was in search of a house in the city along with his wife Mayuri, who was critically injured in the incident and was still unaware of her husband's death.
