The Bane Of McCain Falls Mainly On The Brain

Bush should've axed Karl Rove in Miss Covert America Valerie Plame CIA leak case. Former press flack Scott McClellan to Tim Russert on "Meet The Press." VideoMaureen Dowd NYT: McClellan did not realize the value of a favorite maxim ? ?The truth shall set you free? ? until he was hung out to dry by his bosses in the Valerie Plame affair, repeating the lies Karl Rove and Scooter Libby brazenly told him about not being the leakers. ?Clearly,? McClellan says, sounding like the breast-heaving heroine of a Victorian romance, ?I had allowed myself to be deceived.? He felt ?something fall out of me into the abyss.?It could be Pillsbury doughboy Scottie McClellan who denies John McCain the presidency. Frank Rich NYT "McCain's McClellan Nightmare": Mr. McClellan isn?t a sizzling TV personality, or, before now, a household name beyond the Beltway. The politician with the most annoying voice in Congress (runner-up Joe Lieberman) will be droning before the mics with Bush turncoat Scott McClellan. The "get" of the moment Scott McClellan on the "Today" show this a.m with his book #1 on Amazon. There are several kinds of Washington memoirs: ?I Reveal the Honest Truth,? a kiss-up-and-tell designed to settle scores (nod to honesty optional). ?I Was There at the Start,? designed to make the author appear to be the linchpin of history. And, most tedious: ?I Knew It Was a Terrible Mistake, but I Didn?t Mention It Until I Got a Book Contract.? NY Times editorial"...McClellan is an exceptionally nice guy." NYP McClellan's book contrasts sharply with his spin before the jaded WH press corps when he was on Bush's watch. Wash Post ABC News "An affable Texan, McClellan was extremely well-liked by White House press corps regulars and was accessible off-camera. But he never earned a reputation for being particularly helpful or pushing for more information. "I didn't ask about that" was a phrase reporters heard regularly." Thomas DeFrank NYDN

ABC sinks to new low in debate, but record won?t stand for long
2008-04-17 21:18:00
I missed last night’s “debate” between Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. From what I can tell this morning, that was the smartest thing I did all day. I’ve read a good bit about it and seen some video and it looks like what transpired in Philadelphia may have been a new low-water mark in American journalism. Let’s see what people are saying. We’ll start at Crooks & Liars, which has video of the debacle. Next let’s check in at the ABC “News” Web site, where the network’s viewers are still engaging in one of the bloodiest nard-stompings I’ve ever seen. Nearly 16,000 comments as I write, and the consensus is not a happy one. SenateGuru explains why G-Steph should be embarrassed. Yes, Charlie, the crowd is turning on you. Because you’re a joke. Joe Wilson (husband of Valerie Plame) attacks Saint Obama

Over at the Stuffington Roast, serial storyteller Joe Wilson has formally attacked Barack Obama, calling his judgment "hollow" and his record "empty": There is no credible reason to conclude that Obama would have acted any differently in voting for the authorization had he been in the Senate at that time. Indeed, he has said as much. The supposed intuitive judgment he exercised in his 2002

BREAKING: Nicole Kidman Outed as Valerie PlameNearly a year after Warner Brothers announced their intention to make a biopic of outed CIA agent Valerie Plame, the identity of the actress who will play her has finally been leaked to the media ? and you can only find it on MTV News. “Nicole Kidman,” director Doug Liman revealed. “She’s perfect if you’ve ever met Valerie. Nicole was supposed to play Jane Smith in ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith.’ We owe a movie together! That's an unrequited thing between me and an actor where I fell in love with them for a role and never get to consummate it.” That Doug Liman himself is attached to the project is something of a surprise all by itself, but a perfect fit, the “Jumper” director said, based on his history working with [REDACTED]…his training in [REDACTED]…and, above all, his unique approach to the material - perhaps a necessity given that the Plame’s memoir, “Fair G...

Nicole Kidman Cast as Outed CIA Agent Valerie Plame - SendMeRSS
2008-02-14 15:16:00
Nicole Kidman Cast as Outed CIA Agent Valerie Plame The Bush administration has certainly given Hollywood a lot of fodder, most of it mediocre. Rendition and Lions for Lambs, for instance, were pretty much forgettable. The Kingdom was a might better, but a well-worn topic. And here soon comes the uninteresting Stop Loss. Through all these lackluster productions, there seems to always be Hollywood A-Listers attached. Our friends over at MTV bring us the latest news on this political, celebrity-filled subset of film: Nicole Kidman will star as outed CIA agent Valerie Plame in a biopic directed by Doug Liman (Jumper, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Bourne series). Now, how one tries to make a successful biographical film about a covert CIA agent that is anywhere near adjacent to non-fiction is a bit beyond me. Breach and The Good Shepard, while largely accurate and descriptive, were nevertheless slow-paced and stunted at the box-office. Even Plame's own book, "Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My ...

Valerie Plame Wilson Describes Sibel Edmonds Disclosures as 'Stunning'

Valerie Plame’s new book is out today. Plame said - “There is no doubt that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons.”  This is true.  We have known that for over 10 years. Q&A with Keith Olbermann Did George Tenet know about the leak before he referred the case to Justice?  She didn’t know. Did the media, who published so much information surrounding the leak, did they get any of it right?  Many stories were right.  The Libby trial revealed the relationship between the media and the administration.  There was no confirmation of stories that the White House feed the media. A lot of her book was redacted.  Ms. Plame believes that the CIA will not acknowledge that she worked at the CIA before 2003.  She believes that it is an ongoing effort to diminish her importance. Valerie Plame Wilson Speaks Muzzled
2007-10-20 15:49:00
by Larry C. Johnson Four years and three months after waking up on a Sunday morning and learning that her career as a clandestine intelligence officer was over because of a stupid column by Robert Novak, Valerie Plame Wilson finally gets to meet the public and tell some of her story. Sunday night she appears on 60 Minutes, and kicks off a book tour that will start Monday morning on the Today Show and include stops at Larry King Live and the Daily Show. Unfortunately, Val cannot be totally forthcoming. I am not talking about revealing sources or methods that would compromise intelligence operations. She is a solid professional and would never entertain such nonsense. But the CIA succeeded in getting a Federal judge to block Val from admitting that she started working with the CIA in September of 1985. It is as if Rod Serling has returned from the dead with a 21st Century version of the Twilight Zone. The CIA won the initial round in Federal Court and insists...

VALERIE PLAME IS A SPY
2007-07-19 23:08:00
Predator Press [LOBO] Valerie Plame screwed up our perfectly good exclusive today by admitting she was a spy in Federal Court. We've known for weeks that she was a spy; it's written all over the bathroom wall at the White House. And today, just as we're about to stuff this heaping helping of Truth down your gullet, she just flat out blurts "Hi. I'm Valerie Plane, and I'm a spy", right into cameras and microphones that broadcast it all over the world. Seriously! So we figure it's not a total loss, right? Maybe we'll be there to get the footage of when she leaps up and kills all them guys with a teeny concealed machine gun in her watch, or hurls a laserbeam stiletto hairpin into some important guy's heart. Or maybe she just vaporizes them with a satellite death ray, and escapes in a sports car that turns into a submarine! Hell, now that would be a pretty kickass story too. And it seems, after all, the least she could do after we've gone through all this trouble, ...

The White House should be more concerned about what reporters are asking than what they're wearing. Wolves in sheep's clothing. The new dress code: Professional attire is required for all media covering presidential photo opportunities/ events in the West Wing (Oval Office, Cabinet Room, Roosevelt Room and other pooled events with the POTUS)No beach attire or flip flops. No shorts. No torn, frayed, or soiled clothing. No collarless t-shirts. Neat, long sleeved shirts or collared golf shirts (business casual) is advisable. IS advisable? Grammar police: ARE advisable. Bush is mooning the media while his henchmen are obsessing over unpressed pressies. The dress code isn't the only edict insulting reporters' intelligence. Get Out Of Jail Free!
2007-07-03 00:16:00
Just hours after a federal appeals court turned down Scooter Libby's plea to stay out of jail, Prez Bush commuted the 30-month sentence. "Excessive," he justified. [ABC News] [MSNBC]Bush didn't blow off the $250,000 fine and probation. That's harsh enough, he rationalizes, for Libby's conviction for lying and obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame CIA leak case. This isn't a pardon. It's "executive clemency." Read Bush's statement.

Libby was sentenced to 30 months in the slammer for obstruction of justice et al. in the CIA Valerie Plame leak case. My take? The esteemed Judge Reggie Walton figures Bush'll pardon him and wants to make sure Libby gets a taste of life in Club Fed. Cheney's former chief of staff takes one for the team. How Dare Valerie Plame Get Past Her Victimhood
2007-03-25 20:38:00
Bill Maher Conservative pundits seem miffed that Valerie Plame, her cover blown, decided to pose for Vanity Fair or get a book deal or sell her story to Hollywood. Well, what do they expect? She lost her job, her career. She can't become a covert agent for Canada. Or Mexico. And just because she's bounced back doesn't mean she wasn't victimized. It's like saying a woman who was raped can never go to another dance. How raped could she have been if she's daring to smile four years later? Connie Francis still sang "Stupid Cupid" and "Lipstick On Your Collar" after she was raped in a Howard Johnson's in Long Island. It doesn't mean she wasn't raped. But she had to earn a living. She had to keep going. Isn't that an example of personal responsibility that the right used to champion? Isn't that what conservatives used to be all about?

A “Gagged” Valerie Plame Finally Gets Her Chance To “Test
2007-03-16 08:16:00
Get ready to read between the lines, folks. Outed CIA agent Valerie Plame will finally get her chance to “speak out” before Congress, that is… within the confines of her gag order since most of the relevant, and most condemning (to this Administration, that is) information she is in possession of is considered to still be “classified”. Of course, neither President Bush OR Vice President Cheney has any intent of “declassifying’ any incriminating evidence via their magical “declassification powers” found nowhere within the Constitution. A quick breakdown oversimplified, admittedly “biased” relay of the events for those who may just be stumbling into this “Plamegate” thing for the first time, or who hadn’t really paid attention to the details until now. CIA panel blocks book by outed agent Valerie Plame
2007-01-11 08:35:02
YahooNews WASHINGTON (AFP) - The Central Intelligence Agency has shot down a book by former undercover agent Valerie Plame, whose outing led to an investigation of the highest levels of government, a magazine reported. According to Newsweek magazine, the CIA panel that must approve writings by former employees ruled Plame can’t even mention the widely-known fact she worked for the agency because she had “nonofficial cover,” posing as a private business-woman instead of a government official. “She believes this will effectively gut the book,” one of her advisors told the magazine asking not to be named. The magazine noted that while other former CIA officers have published books, all of which cleared the panel, few with nonofficial cover have. CIA spokesman Mark Mansfield told Newsweek the panel was still having “ongoing” talks with Plame to resolve the dispute. “The sole yardstick,” he said, is that books “contain no...
